Here
we list the various introductions that enlightened the audience
on the show that they were about to watch.
Every
cartoon should have one. Introductions are supposed to attract
the viewer's attention to the screen and keep them there
until the end credits begin to roll. He-Man's introduction
had the responsibility of marketing the character, making
sure we all knew the product title and had to explain the
basis of the series. There were slight differences with
He-Man's introductions through the 130 episodes.
This
is the standard regular introduction that was used for the
first season of He-Man. This is the introduction
which features Hal Sutherland's name.
This
is quite a strange introduction. It is identical to the
first season version, except the main difference at the
end is He-Man's speech about "The Evil Masters of the
Universe" as opposed to the standard "Evil forces
of Skeletor." This was released as the introduction
to "The Dragon Invasion" on home video. The TV
version of this episode has the regular introduction without
the difference. This was an early pilot introduction that
accidentally made it on to home release.
Another
strange introduction. It is identical to the first season
version, except the main difference at the end is the evil
warriors' faces appearing over Grayskull. This introduction
uses a cel of the jaw-bridge instead of the painted version.
Also the faces appear in a different order and there is
no Skeletor face. The reason for this change is because
this is another home video release of a compilation. The
opening scene after the introduction is Skeletor's laughing
face, so they probably didn't want to use the same animation
twice in the space of two seconds.
This
is the standard regular introduction that was used for the
second season of He-Man. This is the introduction
which features a picture of Man-At-Arms, the Sorceress and
Orko instead of the original with Hal Sutherland's name.
Also the Sorceress changes from Zoar to her human form in
front of the Castle Grayskull throne.
"A
Christmas Special" surprised all of us when it came
out. With all the cartoons in the mid-eighties, it was strange
that Filmation should decide to make a special dedicated
to Christmas, after completing season one of She-Ra.
Still, the introduction was nice, and was based on the style
of "The Secret of The Sword." However, the music
changed to a mix of the He-Man theme, the She-Ra
theme and believe it or not "Jingle Bells."
This
is as everyone knows the very memorable introduction to
"The Secret of The Sword." This was Filmation's
biggest cinematic hit. Although the introduction doesn't
contain a huge amount of animation, it has some very nice
Filmation effects and a very appropriate and wonderful theme
song. Watch for transformation sequence variants. He-Man's:
with the red glowing Grayskull eyes and a slower lightning
speed, and She-Ra's: with the rainbow transformation
and powerful explosions from the sword. Plus for many youngsters
at the time, this introduction actually matched up the voice
actors to their characters!
