At the castle in the kingdom of Erelandia, King Duplis is being interrogated by Hordak. Hordak believes the King, or at least one of the King's associates, is feeding the rebels with information about the Horde's plans. The associate in question is the King's son, Prince Hazar, who journeys to meet with rebel villagers and join the Great Rebellion. Catra and Scorpia ambush the meeting, and though the villagers escape, Hazar is captured.

Catra has him sent to work in the mines of Mondor on the planet Kyrtis, where he will mine dangerous minerals for the Horde. King Duplis seeks help from the Great Rebellion in rescuing his son, and after consulting with Queen Angella, Adora, Glimmer, and Bow agree to help. In return, King Duplis promises never again to aid the Horde.

Queen Angella uses the magical dimensional gate to send them to Kyrtis, but not before Adora transforms into She-Ra for the journey. When they arrive on the planet, the townspeople of Graydor greet them with suspicion and violence. Since no ship will transport them to the mines, She-Ra buys one, and as they prepare to set sail the rebels christen it the Bright Hope.

Meanwhile, on a Horde ship Hordak and Shadow Weaver speed toward Mondor, hoping to blunt the rebels' plan of attack. Shadow Weaver conjures a mighty storm which endangers the ship, causing it to break apart. They escape to a makeshift raft as the boat sinks. Madame Razz and Broom spot the island of Mondor, and they soon land on the shore.

As they journey toward the mines, they face a large screeching bird-like creature, which is in pain. She-Ra heals its wing and sends it on its way. When they arrive at the mines, they observe the abuse that the slaves must endure. She-Ra and the rebels successfully manage to locate Prince Hazar, and together with Hazar, they inspire the spirit of rebellion, causing it to spread like wildfire amidst the other workers, as they all resolve to fight for their freedom.

Hordak, Shadow Weaver, and the Horde Troopers disembark from their ship, and while She-Ra and the rebels keep them busy, she tells the mineworkers to board the ship and take off. The mineworkers steal the ship, but Hordak is convinced that he has the rebels trapped in a canyon. However, proving that no good deed goes unanswered, a flock off large bird-like creatures, including the bird that She-Ra healed earlier, arrive to offer a ride to the rebels.

They generously accept, and fly back to the dimensional gate with Prince Hazar, where they escape back to Bright Moon with new allies. Upon welcoming his son back, King Duplis reveals that he had no intention of keeping his promise, because he was afraid for his son's safety if they aided the Rebellion. However, he realizes that the best parents are those who support their children in the fight for good.
