A group of Horde Troopers chase Madame Razz and Broom through a desert, causing them to almost hit an old ugly decaying tree. The tree somehow hits the Horde Troopers with an energy spell, leaving Madame Razz intrigued. She returns to the rebel camp and tells Adora the legend of the Wizard who created a magical world inside a tree, which bears heavy resemblance to the tree that helped Madame Razz and Broom escape from the Horde Troopers.

Adora and Madame Razz plan to recruit the Wizard's help in the fight against the Horde. First, though, Adora transforms into She-Ra and seeks advice from Light Hope, who confirms her suspicions that the tree does indeed house the Wizard. Light Hope also tells She-Ra that the Wizard loves his privacy and hates visitors. As the rebels advance toward the tree, Madame Razz, Kowl, Broom, and She-Ra tease Bow about who he thinks would make better company for the trip, Adora or She-Ra?

Just then, a chasm suddenly opens in the ground, and they leap over it. Another danger awaits them as they get to the other side and a wall of flame manifests before them. The Wizard appears to be attempting to ward them off, but She-Ra persists in her journey by creating a corridor in the earth that parts the flames and lets them pass unharmed. Catra and the Horde Troopers report the story of the tree to Hordak, and Shadow Weaver is able to fill in the gaps about the magical tree.

The rebels brave even more dangers as Hordak readies his attack. They face an angry cactus that tosses its quills to surround the rebels, the quills then transforming into a crystal cage. She-Ra helps them break free, and they arrive at the tree, asking the Wizard for his help in fighting the Horde. When Bow challenges the Wizard to appear, the rebels are transported into the tree, where they face an army of sludge monsters.

Instead of fighting, She-Ra takes an honest approach, and simply asks for the Wizard's help. They won't force him to help, but the Wizard needs to understand that they have the best of intentions. At this point, the Wizard reveals himself and the paradise of his world. The Wizard tells the rebels that he retreated because he was judged based solely upon his appearance.

He refuses to help them, but out of kindness releases them back into the outside world, where they encounter Hordak's strike force. While the Wizard resists their attack, She-Ra decides that they will help the Wizard even if the Wizard refuses to help them. As Shadow Weaver saps the Wizard's strength, She-Ra is able to maneuver Catra's ship against the Horde Troopers and Hordak.

Shadow Weaver attempts to enchant She-Ra with her magic cloud of doom, but She-Ra spins the cloud into nonexistence, sending the Horde retreating from the field of battle. The Wizard promises to think about the choice that She-Ra gave him, and the rebels journey home with them the lesson that it is the beauty inside the "tree" that counts, not its outside appearance.
