Beneath the Growling Sea, Hordak is testing his new Horde submarine, the Sea Fright. Hordak uses the periscope to peer above the water, and spies a strange unknown island, just as a unicorn flies past. Hordak deduces that the island must be Unicorn Island, and orders Mantenna to test its defenses, in an attempt to annex the island as Horde territory.

Meanwhile, back at the Whispering Woods, Adora and Spirit transform into She-Ra and Swift Wind in order to go on a pleasure flight. When Spirit becomes a unicorn, he senses strong danger, prompting She-Ra to consult Light Hope. Light Hope tells She-Ra and Swift Wind that Hordak has discovered Unicorn Island, and urges She-Ra to go to the island and win the Unicorn King's trust in order to protect the island. Hordak and Mantenna are busily capturing unicorns using Horde Capture-Bots which generate stasis fields. She-Ra and Swift Wind arrive and disrupt their stasis fields, permitting the unicorns to escape.

When She-Ra arrives on the island, the Unicorn King greets her with suspicion and scorn, also referring to Swift Wind as a unicorn slave to a human. She-Ra answers his charge by describing her friendship with Swift Wind, as partners in the battle against the Horde, but then the King reveals the reason for his suspicion of humankind: he introduces She-Ra to Bright Wing, a unicorn whose wings had been badly damaged by human magic.

As She-Ra pleads with the King to let her help protect the island, the King plans to leave the island with the other unicorns rather than stay and be vulnerable to the Horde. She-Ra respects his decision, but as she prepares to leave, she asks if she can try to help Bright Wing, and using her powers, she heals his wings. The Unicorn King asks what price She-Ra expects for her aid, and She-Ra only asks for his trust, to let her defend the island.

Mantenna leads She-Ra and Swift Wind away from the island, permitting Hordak to erect a force-field which traps the unicorns in preparation for their use as slaves to the Horde. While Swift Wind ensures that Mantenna is neutralized, She-Ra dives into the sea and drills upward on the island. The Unicorn King offers to let She-Ra ride on his back in order to fly up and destroy the force field generator hovering overhead. Together, they fly above the winds created by the generator's defensive mechanism and She-Ra leaps atop it, destroying it, as the King races to catch her.

The Unicorn King questions how She-Ra could carry out such a dangerous action, She-Ra replying that she trusted that the King would save her. She-Ra tosses Hordak's ship into the sea, and as it floods, Mantenna and Hordak head for the emergency raft. The Unicorn King extends his permanent welcome to She-Ra and Swift Wind, who leave for Whispering Woods.
