Hordak receives a visitor at the Fright Zone, who reveals himself to be Kowl's cousin, Red Eye. He wants to join the Horde, so Shadow Weaver seizes an opportunity to test his loyalty by requesting that he obtain some of Kowl's feathers. Red Eye flies to meet his cousin, who is less than thrilled to see him. Red Eye tries to capture Kowl, but Adora frees him, causing Red Eye to flee but not without a handful of Kowl's feathers.

At the Fright Zone, Shadow Weaver reveals that she can use the feathers to cast a spell, which will allow Red Eye to read Kowl's thoughts and spy on the rebels. He sees that the rebels plan to ambush Horde trucks, and Hordak hatches a plan to trap them. As the rebels assault the trucks, the Horde Troopers are prepared and attack pinning the rebels down. Madame Razz and Broom use a spell to create smog, which causes the Horde Troopers to cough wildly and allows the rebels to escape, but not before Red Eye can appear and taunt Kowl.

Castaspella reveals the possibility that Shadow Weaver has employed a family mind-reading spell, making Kowl the equivalent of a Horde spy. Kowl plans to run away, and confides in Spirit. While this foils Shadow Weaver's plan, Hordak is undeterred, and plans to go to the Valley of the Lost and capture Kowl, using him as bait in a trap. Hordak boards Monstron, the finest Horde ship owned by Horde Prime, and heads after Kowl. Spirit asks Adora for advice about secrets, and she reveals that if someone is in danger, its best to reveal their location.

He tells her that Kowl has gone to the Valley of the Lost, prompting Adora to transform into She-Ra. Monstron chases after Kowl, who attempts to hide in the smoke of an active volcano, but he soon grows weak and begins to fall. She-Ra and Swift Wind swoop in and save him, but Hordak fires a freeze blast, which injures Swift Wind's wing. Using her sword as a glider, She-Ra carries them to cover in a cave, which Hordak opens fire upon, causing its entrance to seal. She-Ra heals Swift Wind, and realizing that Red Eye is able to eavesdrop on their conversation, She-Ra decides to use misinformation to trick the Horde.

She-Ra and Kowl engage in dialogue designed to lead Hordak's Monstron away from the cave, by making him think they have escaped back to the Whispering Woods. As Hordak turns to pursue them, She-Ra, Kowl and Swift Wind escape unseen. She-Ra then telepathically reaches out to the birds in the area, asking for their help. They swarm Monstron and attack the Horde Troopers.

Frustrated, Hordak fires upon the volcano, which causes it to erupt, threatening the Valley below. She-Ra and Swift Wind fly beneath the ship, using it plug the volcano and destroying Horde Prime's prize ship in the process. Hordak is displeased with Red Eye and casts him off, causing him to slink away. She-Ra and Kowl thank their bird friends, and prepare to race home.
