Orko is a "Trollan", a race of beings from the extradimensional world of Trolla. Like all Trollans, Orko appears to be a diminutive blue humanoid, capable of floating in mid-air, that is almost completely hidden beneath a robe, hat, and scarf. Little more than Orko's hands, ears, and eyes are ever seen by the audience, as Trollan custom only rarely permits the revelation of one's face. Orko's face was designed in production drawings but never appeared in the series; when his clothing is removed he is always obscured.
The laws of nature on Trolla are vastly different than those on Eternia, so although Orko is an accomplished wizard on his homeworld, his spells usually backfire or malfunction when he aids He-Man in adventure or provides entertainment in the Royal Palace.
Origin #1 (Early Renditions):
Orko is a character from the Masters of the Universe franchise. The character was not originally developed for the 1980s toy line, but was instead created by Filmation to provide comic relief in the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series. Owing to the popularity of the series and the character, Mattel later produced an Orko action figure, and he has had a major role in the franchise ever since.
The character was named Gorpo in the early original series drafts, early World I.P. Annuels and that name was still used in the Brazilian Portuguese dub of the original series, but he was renamed Orko for animation purposes; Filmation artists often flipped the character cels, a technique that works best when the characters are symmetrical in design, and putting a "G" on Orko's shirt would have complicated the process
Origin #2 (Filmation Cartoon)
Orko occasionally becomes homesick for Trolla, but his girlfriend Dree-Elle and his uncle Montork regularly visit him to keep him informed. Orko and his Uncle Montork have a very strong bond as Montork is the one that that taught Orko every trick he knows. Orko loves Drelle, and she showers him with wide-eyed adoration. Since Orko is still known as a powerful magician on Trolla. Dree-Elle sees the potential that he possesses. Orko is a very popular figure at the Royal place and he is a confidant to Prince Adam, Cringer and Teela.
He is always ready to be brave for his fellow Eterians, Orko is one of He-Man’s greatest allies, not so much in battle but more in friendship the two share. Orko often finds himself rescued by He-Man from danger or his own foolishness. Next to Adam, Cringer is his closest friend. Both take comfort intheir cowardice and desire for safety. Ironically Battlecat picks on Orko constantly for his lack of courage. Orko’s magic typically goes awry, quite often having an adverse comical affects on Man-At-Arms. Orko will seek out the Sorceress at Castle Grayskull when he needs a confidant away from the palace. Orko’s powers work extremely well in Trolla, but on the planet Eternia his powers work in reverse hence his tricks and spells go horrible wrong. Orko powers are vast, from simple parlor tricks to teleportation.
