The Sorceress is the mystic guardian of Castle Grayskull and all of it's secrets. She is also the guardian of the “Sword of Power” and the “Sword of Protection”. The real name of the current Sorceress is Teela Na, who is also the mother of Teela. Teela is destined to inherit her place, although she doesn't know this initially. She has the power transform into the mystical bird, Zoar. With a vast knowledge of magic and history, she is among the wisest beings on Eternia and appears to those in need of help. She is generally considered to be one of the most powerful practitioners of magic on Eternia. However, since her powers are tied to Castle Grayskull, they weaken when she leaves its walls. When she does need to travel, though, she generally assumes the form of Zoar.
Origin #1 (Early Publications):
The character of the Sorceress is based upon an earlier figure who served the same role in the first Masters of the Universe stories. To avoid confusion, this other woman, who is always depicted wearing a cobra headdress, is generally referred to as the Goddess. Eventually the Goddess transitioned into the Sorceress.
The Sorceress was cloned by Skeletor, who desired a magic wielding bride to pass on his legacy. With the help of Man-At-Arms, The Sorceress saved the cloned child. And it was through her undying love and devotion to this baby girl that she gave her up to Man-At-Arms, awaiting the day where her daughter would become the new Sorceress and Guardian of Castle Grayskull's secrets.
Origin #2 (Filmation Cartoons):
The woman who would become the next “Sorceress Of Grayskull” was originally named Teela Na. She came from the Village Of Nowella, located near Dark Mountain. Shortly before she became the Sorceress, the small village of Nowella, was attacked, and subsequently conquered, Morgoth The Terrible and by the Horde Invaders, Ferros, Repta, and Rachney, servants of the Evil Horde, that were on a scouting mission for Horde Prime. She was aided by an old man, who provided her with a riddle about a castle and means to escape.
That night, Teela Na fled from Nowella. She was spotted by Repta and fired upon, but Ferros talked him out of pursuing her since she was “one woman—alone.” She traveled until morning, when she finally collapsed from a combination of heat and exhaustion in the heart of the wastelands.
A short time later, when Duncan was on a scouting mission, a falcon flew past him and he heard a beautiful voice in his mind telling him to follow the bird. Mesmerized by the voice, he followed the bird. The bird led him to the banks of the Crystal Sea. On one of the high cliffs there was a giant nest, where the falcon had landed. Duncan found that, Mer-Man and his allies were trying to capture the falcon so they could use her as a sacrifice to the sea demon, Bakull. The falcon could have flown away, but she was protecting something in the nest. After Mer-Man and his minions were defeated. Duncan than climbed up to the top where he found that the falcon was trying to protect a baby. The Sorceress then told Duncan that he was chosen to be the girl’s protector and guardian. She made him swear that he would never reveal their connection until the time was right, and it was a promise he kept.
During the years of Prince Adam's youth, the Sorceress watched over him. She would even speak to him via telepathy from time-to-time and encourage him in making certain choices, such as raising the cowardly Cringer.
Soon thereafter, Teela—frustrated that Man-At-Arms would not tell her who her mother set off to visit the Oracle of the Crystal Sea to answer the question that had plagued her since childhood. After a brief skirmish with Mer-Man, the Sorceress herself revealed the truth to Teela…only to strip her of the memory moments later, as she felt that knowing the truth would only cause Teela more difficulties for the time being.
After that, a series of dreams—and the Sword of Protection itself—revealed to the Sorceress the location of Princess Adora: a distant world named Etheria. She sent Prince Adam to Etheria in hopes of rescusing his long-lost sister, which he eventually did. The knowledge that the Sorceress had never given up the search for her helped foster a deep bond between the two women.
Origin #3 (1987 Live-Action Movie)
The live action movie based on the He-Man series showcased Christina Pickles in the role of Sorceress. In the movie the Sorceress has been imprisoned by Skeletor, and her powers are being syphoned into him; the result leaves her aged and dying. Once Skeletor is eventually defeated, her powers and true appearance are seemingly restored.
The Sorceress is clothed in long white robes, with feather-like strands of white fabric hanging from her arms as an homage to the original design, although they are only visible in the scene where she waves goodbye to the characters of Julie and Kevin. Rather than a bird-like headpiece, crystals are placed throughout the Sorceress' long, silver hair like a crown.
Origin #4 (New Adventures Of He-Man)
In "The New Adventure", the first minicomic for the new series, the Sorceress, appears in her classic falcon form, and warns Prince Adam that the Galactic Guardians, tricked by Skeletor, are siphoning the Power of Grayskull. She later appears with a totally different chrome armor, evoking the futuristic feeling of the new series, saying that He-Man will not become Prince Adam again, and that He-Man now had to say the name of the Starship Eternia in order to transform.
In the New Adventures animated series, the Sorceress wears an amalgamation of her classic falcon suit and chrome armor. She often appears in He-Man's mind, giving him advice. She can also reach out into the future with her powers to assist He-Man and his allies, and has been shown to talk to Master Sebrian telepathically. In one episode, she even sends Teela into the future to offer the homesick prince of Eternia comfort.

"Temple of Darkness" Sorceress is similar to the regular figure, but wears a white outfit with Teela's boots. She includes a unique pedestal for an orb accessory previously sold with King Grayskull.
