Sorceress - Heroic Mystic Guardian Of Grayskull
Real Name: Teela'Na

The woman who would be called “Sorceress” by both the friends of foes of He-Man was originally named Teela Na.  She came from a village near Dark Mountain called Nowella.  It was a quiet, peaceful village before a warlord named Morgoth the Terrible betrayed its people to a scouting force for an evil force terrorizing hundreds of worlds:  The Horde!

Horrified by the atrocities committed by Morgoth and his colleagues—Ferros, Rachney, and Repta—Teela Na decided to stand-up against their captors, though she didn’t know quite what to do yet.  She was aided by an old man, who provided her with a riddle about a castle and means to escape.

That night, Teela Na fled from Nowella.  She was spotted by Repta and fired upon, but Ferros talked him out of pursuing her since she was “one woman—alone.”  She traveled until morning, when she finally collapsed from a combination of heat and exhaustion in the heart of the wastelands.

She began pleading for help, though there was no one to hear her.  And then, a mighty fortress—the mysterious Castle Grayskull itself—appeared before her, and an aged voice bid her to enter.

Within the castle’s walls, she eventually came upon an old woman who called herself Kuduk Ungol, the Sorceress and keeper of the secrets of Castle Grayskull.  Kuduk Ungol explained to the weary Teela Na that she could give her the powers necessary to drive back those holding her village captive, but at a cost:  Teela Na would have to become Kuduk Ungol’s successor, the new Sorceress of Castle Grayskull.

Eventually, Teela Na accepted Kuduk Ungol’s offer, agreeing to preserve and protect the Swords of Power and Protection, comfort those in need, and fight a constant war against evil.  After agreeing to Kuduk Ungol’s terms, all that was left was the acceptance of the castle itself, which it proclaimed by transforming Teela Na into Zoar the Falcon for the first time.

Using her newfound powers, the Sorceress defeated Morgoth, and banished the Horde scout force for a time.

Some time later the Sorceress gave birth to a daughter named Teela, although it remains unknown who the child’s father was other than the fact that he was a great warrior.  Shortly after the birth of her daughter, the villainous Mer-Man attempted to capture the baby so that he might offer it as a sacrifice to the sea-demon Bakull.  With help from Man-At-Arms, the Sorceress (as Zoar the Falcon) defeated Mer-Man, but the attempt was enough to convince her that the child would never be free of danger under her care.  Therefore, she made the heartbreaking choice to entrust Teela’s guardianship to Man-At-Arms.  She made him swear that he would never reveal their connection until the time was right, and it was a promise he kept.

Around the same time, the Horde returned—this time led by an even greater tyrant:  Hordak.  The Sorceress used the powers of Castle Grayskull to assist the forces of King Randor in repelling the Horde.  She could not, however, stop him from kidnapping King Randor and Queen Marlena’s infant daughter, Princess Adora.  She even went to the Horde’s base at Snake Mountain alongside Man-At-Arms in an effort to reclaim the princess, but they were too late.  Unable to locate Adora after Hordak’s departure from Eternia, the Sorceress used her magic to strip all memory of Adora from the people of Eternia.  The only people that knew the truth were herself, Man-At-Arms, and the king and queen.

Once the Horde was defeated once more, Eternia entered into a relatively peaceful time.  During these years, the Sorceress continued searching for the princess while at the same time watching over the development of the young Prince Adam.  She would even speak to him via telepathy from time-to-time and encourage him in making certain choices, such as raising the cowardly Cringer.

At some point, when the prince was around 15 years old, the Sorceress entrusted him with the Sword of Power, which he could use to become He-Man and fight the villainous Skeletor.

Soon thereafter, Teela—frustrated that Man-At-Arms would not tell her who her mother set off to visit the Oracle of the Crystal Sea to answer the question that had plagued her since childhood.  After a brief skirmish with Mer-Man, the Sorceress herself revealed the truth to Teela…only to strip her of the memory moments later, as she felt that knowing the truth would only cause Teela more difficulties for the time being.

After that, a series of dreams—and the Sword of Protection itself—revealed to the Sorceress the location of Princess Adora:  a distant world named Etheria.  She sent Prince Adam to Etheria in hopes of rescusing his long-lost sister, which he eventually did.  The knowledge that the Sorceress had never given up the search for her helped foster a deep bond between the two women.

The Sorceress, while within the walls of Castle Grayskull, was possibly the most powerful practitioner of magic on all of Eternia, but that power was tempered by an amazing warmth and love for her friends and allies.
