Answers to WTFWTK Pre-SDCC 2013 Edition!
Mattel has once again provided answers to your questions.
Thanks again to them for taking the time to answer these!
Check out their answers to your 2013 Pre-SDCC questions!
1. revelat10n: In the upcoming MOTUC monthly figure poll at SDCC: Huntara vs Lord Masque, is the vote between who gets made first or does the loser not get made at all?
The vote is for who gets made sometime in the 2014-2015 line up. Obviously if neither of these years gets the min number of sub holders than the figure might not happen (same for all the other great figures planned for these years!) As for the figure that does not win, it just means he/she won't be in 2014-2015. He/she could always be a candidate for a future year pending enough interest from customers to keep the line going beyond 2015.
2. Veronica Mars: As I understand what has been said recently, 2014 & 2015 are going to be devoted to wrapping up the vintage lines as well as A-list and key characters from other media. Are Lord Masque and Huntara really A-list/Key Characters?
A-list enough that we wanted to try to fit them in! When it came down to it, we just couldn't get them both into the 2014-2015 roll out so we are leaving it to the fans at our panel to vote.
3. King Tamusk: Last year, the attendees that preordered Vykron received a special gift when they picked up their order (the MOTU comic with the variant cover). Is there any plans to have a special giveaway this year for people that preordered Stonedar and Rokkon?
There won't be a give away like this with purchase, but everyone who attends out SDCC Mattypalooza panel will get a ticket for a free MOTU comic book from DC.
4. Clawful Ofit: How will the vote for Huntara or Masque be presented? Will it be just their two pictures, or do you plan on giving a few details about the actual MOTUC figures? For example: Huntara- 2 heads, 2 lazer swords w/ removable blades. Masque- Removeable mask, plug in smoke effect & Darkling.
We only have pics of the animation character from a freeze frame from their episode. The details on accessories and piece count that will be included with the winner are too far off at this point. All you are voting for is a 6" figure by name.
5. Old Bolty-Neck: When it comes time to field questions from the room, would you please repeat the question before you give the answer? This is for the benefit of those of us who cannot hear the person asking the question (such as us fans watching Mattypalooza videos online) especially since the person asking the question almost never speaks into the microphone.
You got it! Great feedback and much appreciated.

A-list enough that we wanted to try to fit them in! When it came down to it, we just couldn't get them both into the 2014-2015 roll out so we are leaving it to the fans at our panel to vote.
If both Masque and Huntara have enough demand to get "fit in" and we get a lesser wanted Filmation character next year, that's wanted by say....oh I don't know...Scott.... does that make sense to anyone? When we should get both Huntara & Masque first over a lesser "B-Lister"?
I think someone wants his characters out first, and the ones the fans want more, we have to vote on and sacrifice one. If you're going to vote between 2 supposedly great Filmation "A-Listers" but we're still going to get say Nepthu....I think Nepthu should be sacrificed for the loser.....since Nepthu isn't likely as wanted as either of these two. And just because someone....thinks Nepthu is an A-Lister, does not mean everyone thinks so, and that he actually is....
Point blank the vote should be say....Huntara vs Nepthu, or Masque vs Plundor.

That is why I think if both Plundor and Nepthu are coming out it will be for this year. It's possible one is in the Filmation sub and the other in the main sub. They fit under the old roadmap and neither of them are A-list characters.

This is an interesting point that makes me think of two things:
1) Just WHO are the remaining Filmation A-listers? Scorpia is a given. Sea Hawk is probably coming this year. Lizard Man is popular. Evilseed could be a Filmation/200X hybrid. Madame Razz should be in there, but people are saying that the uniqueness of her sculpt may count against her. Imp and possibly Skeletor's Hover Robots are the only other characters that should could be argued as more A-list than Masque and Huntara...but it all depends on who's making the decisions...which is what worries me.
B) 'Other media'. Take Lodar, for example. Now that Geldor's joing the club, he's easily the most requested minicomic character, BUT he's nowhere near as demanded as Masque OR Huntara. But does the fact that he's the most requested from a specific form of media give him an automatic pass into 2014/15? I'd raise the same point with Goat Man and Calix...
My guess is that we'll see all of the above, plus maybe a few others that aren't quite so fan-demanded as those being pitted against each other in the fan vote.

Stuff like this is exactly why we are getting crap like Nepthu. Our boy Scotty likes him, so he is getting made. :hmroll:

I wonder what happens in the event of a tie? The poll here was tied until recently when Masque pulled ahead by 1 vote

Yeah, I thought of that....but it still means for 2014 - 15 we're likely getting a lesser demanded Filmation character over what appears to be one more demanded instead of one of teh lesser demanded getting axed over the next two years....and also being one is from POP, and the other from MOTU....they should most definitely have gotten both made. If they were both POP or both MOTU, then fine, whatever, pick one, but they are not. That is what's stupid....
Not saying I actually wanted a Huntara or Masque, but if both are equally demanded....both should get made, and another lesser demanded that isn't on the 2013 road map already, get cut for next year.

Geldor is coming in November I think?.... I'm selling Geldor, so to me while others want him, I have no use for Mini Comic characters, I would have rather seen another figure in his place....I voted for Green Trap Jaw....but I did like the idea behind C&D Evil-Lyn too. But whatever, I have to take what is coming, but as for the Filmation slots....I just think if you had to cut say Masque for Strong Arm....so be it, SA seems to have a bigger demand, but to pit Masque against Huntara when both seem to be equally desired....that just doesn't make sense, cut someone planned for next year, who is lesser demanded and make both....

In the event of a tie you shall receive.......Battle armour Spector:hmlol:
All kidding aside, why are we talking like Huntara,Masque,Nepthu and Plundor as in the a-list sub when we hear nothing of Tung Lashor,Two-Badd,Scorpia,Modulok and others from PoP and NA that actually received an action figure in their respective classics line.

Because, very likely they are coming any way, this is basically.... Which Filmation (or never existing before figure) can you live without?.... The Vintage MOTU & POP are somewhat of a given....

The Huntara v.s. Lord Masque poll has me wondering. If their new 2014-2015 roadmap goes far afield enough to include lesser known (liked?) characters such as Lord Masque, who else from obscurity is already on the list that fans won't get to vote on? Obviously meant rhetorically. I would imagine they have it structured so that the major A-listers aren't all delivered by the end of 2014, but are instead sprinkled generously throughout both years- this just makes fiscal sense- but what does this mean as to A-listers they may be hanging onto until 2015? I really and sincerely hope Scorpia isn't slotted for that latter year.

Seems like six months ago everybody loved Plundor. I ain't one of them, but there were plenty of folks singing his praises. No matter which figures come out, it's always some conspiracy or another. The only one that's true isn't a conspiracy: there are lesser-known characters peppered in to lengthen the line. To Person X, these are filler characters used to artificially stretch things out. To Person Y, they're obscure gems that bolster the line's depth beyond a simple nostalgic love-in.

I'm not one that really wants a Plundor....personally I would like Negator, other than him, I'm already getting the ones I want the most....Icer and Batros, and hopefully Sea Hawk.

Great question ( no 5) that's always such a pain in the ass trying to hear the questions on the Internet , cheers mate, good response too.

This.
none of these... four are A-list in any way. Frankly I don't really want any of them. Masque is 'interesting' in a 'prototype Hordak' kind of way... Huntara and Nepthu? Honestly, I think Nepthu LOOKS cooler, but I obviously didn't find either character memorable enough to know anything about them... Pludar? Less said the better ;)
It's interesting to hear people complain that their one time villain character is more 'a-list' then someone else's 'one time villain' was... All four are scraping the barrel and are only one or two steps about Vykron and the fighting foe men for me...
Characters like Madame Razz, Sea Hawk, scorpia, Octavia... THOSE are the types of Filmation characters I want... the recurring characters that SHOULD have been made in the 80's, but for some reason got skipped.
-
Ahhh .... the ol' subjective who is a Filmation A-lister.
I will dip my toe into the mud to suggest:
A-list (POP): Shadow Weaver, Scorpia, Madame Razz, Sea Hawk, Imp, Hunga the Harpy, Octavia.
A-list (MOTU): Shokoti, Evilseed, Fang Man, Batros, Strongarm, Robot Knights, Icer, Lizard Man, Montork, Dree-Elle, Lord Masque (a B-lister made A only by association with Shokoti)
Then you head into the murky waters of a plethora of B-list characters, including one of my personal favorites Kothos, Plundor who has always generated a lot of comment amongst the fans (for and against), Vultak, Huntara, Dylamug, General Tataran, Dragoon, Kittrina, Marzo, etc.
Clearly, often what distinguishes a B, C and D list Filmation character is as subjective as how memorable they were to the fan base and changes for each individual. Nepthu is not high on my list but I recognise some of my personal favorites like Sybiline, Lady Valtira and Kol-Darr do not feature are barely remembered by a number of fans.
If TG likes Nepthu and remembers him fondly as a character and thinks his figure adds something new and interesting to the MOTUC line of figures, and slotted him into the open roadmap, I think thats great for Nepthu and I'm interested to get the figure.
I feel sympathy for the person who has to make the call on what is an A-list Filmation for inclusion into the new 2014-15 roadmap, because someone will be left disappointed. However, if the SDCC vote is between Huntara and Masque, that is a good thing because I would have them at around the same tier and it may be an indication most of the other characters I perceive as being A-list may also have a slot!

You're right, It is subjective, which is why we have polls to determine who the most popular characters are. Toyguru himself started a thread on the subject. Nepthu was nowhere near the top.
With maybe 2 years left to go in this line, there simply may not be room for figures of minor characters, which is why it's vital to go with what the majority wants, not individual preferences.

What saddens me is that the talk of Blade and Saurod have all but vanished. We haven't seen a single movie figure yet.
Do you think they may just push those off because they don't have the movie rights (even though they have the rights to make the original 3)?
I've been really looking forward to Saurod and seeing how the 4H tackle him.

My vague understanding is that Mattel can make the original three vintage MOTU movie characters in MOTUC. And because they are "vintage" figures, then they presumably fall within the revised 2014/2015 road map for imminent/priority release. BUT, I could be very wrong.

I Would also assume that are Vintage. I will be thoroughly upset if we don't get them. I had Blade as a kid, whom i chose over Gwildor, but always wanted the other 2. I severely want all 3 done by the 4H especially Gwildor. I truly think we will see one at SDCC.
-
I think that Gwildor, Saurod and Blade is a given in 2014. I recon we will see them in a 3-pack next year!!!!

I remember reading a sentence from Toyguru saying that there wouldn't be 3-packs anymore... but that's if he's able to keep that promise.

Thanks! Now, at some point I'm sure I'll find a video online to hear the Q&A portion, but until then, anyone care to tell me whether TG actually did take my suggestion or not?
