Should he be re-named for a modern audience?
Sure, as adults, we may roll our eyes at the interests of teens and adolecents today...but they are the new market beyond us nostalgic folk...
Maybe a new name is due if producers think the name "He-Man" is something to avoid...
Perhaps something like "Epic Man", "The Man-Of-All", "Quantum-He", or "Xion-Man" would update the subject along with a new look?
Well, that latest Variety article has a few big hints that I picked up on:
- He-Man movie is DEFINITELY happening (treated as a tentpole realease --- just a matter of time)
- Will be much closer to the source material (because Mattel is taking an active role... and explains the previous studio fallouts --- good news)
- The DC comics are setting up the story/ premise/ tone
What's concerning to me is the third bullet. For example, I don't see anyone cheering on the new costume design for He-Man. Maybe I just read into it too literally, but it feels like the comic is being used to soften the blow for major changes:
Thanks for posting that. Some great tidbits.
These are basically the most interesting bits pertainig to MOTU:
In each case, Mattel doesn’t necessarily control all of the creative. While Legendary and Sony are taking the lead on the live action Hot Wheels and He-Man movies
For an eventual live-action feature film tied to He-Man, for instance, a team is working with DC Comics on a line of books whose stories will weave their way into the movie.
The DC comics one has thrown me off, although it’s actually not that surprising. It would appear that its not completely in Mattel's hands, though, as Sony seems to have final say still.
I think current comics are a good way for a live action movie.
Now I understand we were able to have a movie years ago and the main reason this did not happen is because Mattel, I think that's right.
I like Mattel is involved in the creation and not leave the whole process in hands of the estudio.
The ideas and tone of the comic could make he man movie OK as far as using dc comics for costumes ugh.... best case scenario they at least turn brown bag he-man into a silver/metal plated one. They would still need to turn down the "adultness" of the current book too.
I just wonder if that quote doesn’t mean the current comics, but new “prequel” comics which will serve to set up the new film. A lot of “big” movies have prequel comics that lead directly into the movie.
Anyway, with Star Wars finally securing a December 2015 release date, I think it’s safe to say that MOTU, at least as of now and taking into account DeVon Franklin’s tweets, is looking like a summer 2016 movie. Hopefully.
It does sound a bit like they could be a separate line of comics tied into the film. Wouldn't be a bad thing imo. The more MOTU the merrier I say.
good or bad news? http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...9AI02220131119
Can't say I can picture it being good news. I think at best it may not have a direct effect on the movie, but I imagine they would start looking at the budget of most movies they're considering for the future.
It will more likely result in lay-offs than anything else. They have confirmed they are keeping their entertainment businesses. They will probably be more cautious when it comes to budgets, which may not be a bad thing. We don't want MOTU to befall the same fate as John Carter. Sony Pictures hasn't really had the best year at the box-office.
I want a real He-Man movie, with Battle Cat, Orko, Grayskull and Eternia included. No matter if it's boring, low-budget, or has horrible FX, I need to watch a live action He-Man movie before I die. That's all I ask, ha.
Well there is a script.
Stop rushing them!!!!!
They don't need to be encouraged to ruin classics!!!!!!!!
..they haven't even spoke to me yet.
You know, before The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released, it was in development for a very long time.
Somebody high up on the project said something to the effect of "A bad game that stays in production eventually becomes a good game. A bad game rushed into the market stays a bad game forever".
What I am saying is that the script should be finished before they actually make the movie.
Ok Now we need to bug Devon about when we will hear about a director / Casting. Hate the new He-Man emoticon.
I think I'll be more relaxed/optimistic about a motu movie when they've started casting people.
Oh, thank you..
..and the answer is no, I mean to rule Hollywood, at least until they collapse from the weight of ignorance.
"First they laugh at you, then they make memes about you, then they sue you, then they wish they had your agent.. something something Ghandi .."
Sorry I couldn't resist if it makes you feel better they still haven't taken me up on my offer to play Ram-Man cheap.:rmsad: Although you did it again in the last post. It basically says it (Hollywood)would fall under your ignorance.:rmlol:
