Im suddenley reminded of those Nintendo 'Duck Hunt' weapons they used in the 1987 movie.
Also, actual lasers dont make sounds.
Higher heat causing, chemical lasers take up a large room of mechanisms, that do make noises.
The advancments in electric or magnetic weapons may see development in our world, and dangerously if they can be made in any home, but they may be quiet too.
On Eternia I think they are more worried about freeze guns and diamonds of disappearence.
..(I could be wrong.)
