The Powers of Grayskull, part II

Ok, here it is, Powers of Grayskull, part II. I learned a new trick that helped to shave some time off my coloring.

For anyone who didn't see the first, my goal here is to create model sheets of the rarer characters for fans to enjoy, fan artists to use for reference, and for custom figure makers to use for accurate guidelines. I have exhaustively researched the details against many screen caps and these are as acurate as I know how to be. In most all cases, the colors were picked from the screen caps themselves.

Nothing too shocking on this one, but here they are.

First up is King Grayskull himself. Not too much different than He-man, but there are some subtle details, such as the * logo on his belt buckle (although He-man has this on the show, as well). I cheated on the Power Sword, tracing it, using my light table, but the goal for me on this is accuracy and not necessarily my art skills.

Next is Grayskull in his Snake Armor. I didn't originally plan to include him, but looking at the screen caps, I noticed that his armor was actually different than He-man's. Specifically, the * logo is in the middle of his chest and he has no leg armor. I know he lost his sword fighting the Snake men, but I included it anyway..

What is a warrior without his trusty, steed? Here is the mighty Battle Lion. I noticed that Battle Lion was literally Battle Cat with a mane and tail tuft, so, again, using my trusty light table (and some Photoshop help), I modified the Battle Cat model sheet.

Next, we have Grayskull's beautiful wife, Veena. gbagok already posted his incredible Veena, but I decided to include mine for a few reasons:
    1) She was almost done anyway
    2) I included a front and back shot, as her costume is a bit more complex than most
    3) I included her one weapon/object: the case for the Power Sword
    4) I disagree with gbagok's version on some of her costume details. The only other instance I know of him deviating was with Whiplash, which was intentional.

Next is the Oracle. Orko from the future? Who knows? I did shade his hood and sleeves, one of the few instances where I will do for this project, but I needed to enforce the depth.

Lastly is a Castle Grayskull guard. One of the hardest to get details on, as they were only really in two scenes and one was an extreme long shot. I had a hard time on the colors on this one, as they were in the shadows, but I think I got it right. The only parts I am mildly questionable on are:
    1) The wrist bands -- I think they are gray, but there is a slight chance they are green.
    2) The exact color of the gold trim.

    Hope you enjoy!

Anyone up to the challenge and doing this for different episodes or the other Eternian guards or MAA's cartoon colours or ...?

They are on the list, both human and robotic..

As for the MAA cartoon colors, you can just take the existing MAA model sheets and Photoshop the colors..

These are great Doc but where did you get the model sheets? I searched a while ago and couldn't find them.

Doc: I see you went with the different approach to the King Grayskull Snake-Armour with the armour-part that's on his right side protecting his ribs. It could be part of the armour just like He-Man has, but in the episode, it flips in an animation-error here and there, so that it appears like there is only that small line of the armour but no armour part.

    Iceman: What model-sheets?
You mean those very old ones that were iToons?

EDIT: Would these here be the ones you might be looking for?

Cool thanks Jukka. The outlines are very jagged, were they cut from a background?

Are those BGs at the bottom available without characters on them?

PS: The Sorceress BG didn't open.

The BGs at the bottom are just as I've found them, the characters are in them and the model-sheets have either had an very dark blue backround, which I replaced to the backround of my website's colour and some of the snakemen did have an weird cartoonnetwork phsycedelical backround which I cutted off.

And there are couple of pics that the links aren't working, as I recently cleaned up my web-server and propably have by mistake deleted some files that I weren't supposed to. I just noticed that all the very very big promo-images that were on the top of the page are also gone.

Well I'll be darned! I didn't even know King G had a snake-armour. Rather cool to see that one. Also, I think by the looks of it, you included in King G his greater bulk. Seeing as it's obvious he's a lot bigger than He-man.

It makes a brief appearance right at the start of "Power of Grayskull"-episode. I like how they handled it in that manner, so that when King Grayskull is actually fighting Snakemen, does he have the Snake-Armour, but otherwise he sports the regular armour.

Thanks everyone! It looks like Jukka already answered most of my questions..

Iceman - yeah, those are the only model sheets I know of, other than the itoons.

Predabot - Like Jukka said, it was at the beginning of the episode. Technically, it was Adam's dream, but I think it was supposed to be more like a racial memory.

Jukka - I'm not sure what you mean about the Snake Armor. Here is a composite of the caps I used:

I think Grayskull was just naturally bigger and had more endurance/invulnerability, so he didn't need as much armor.

I guess you're right about this, Doc.

Though I still wanna insist on saying that it was supposed to be an armour-part like with He-Man, since they used the same model, and the line alone would just look so silly.
They miscoloured Trap-Jaw's shoulder-armour part so many times, which is why I wouldn't be suprised about this.

And if the inner part isn't an miscoloured armour-part, then answer me this: where does his ribs disappear?. Things like these make it seem very much like they weren't sure what it was supposed to be.

He's older, so I figure he is the Orko from the future IN the past..

I see what you are saying now Jukka, and looking at it, I have to agree. It was probably just a mis-color. Gods know that MYP did it alot. And I agree, it does look silly with just the skinny green line. I thought so when drawing it, I just didn't have any evidence to the contrary. Thanks for the new caps to prove it!

Now I am in a quandry as to whether I should update it, to make it like the intended version, or keep it as it is to be accurate to what was seen.

I vote update it, since we can see the armor from the back colored correctly, and it appears to go all the way to the front, thus almost guaranteeing that the front was just a miscolor, but I'm a newb and have no authority to voice anything more than my opinion.

Yes...but that is an exception to the rule, as it is an close-up and the only time when they actually draw the ribs....rest of the time he has no ribs.

OK, for Jukka, here is a modified version of SA Grayskull. I changed the pallette as well. I realized on the 1st one that I was picking colors from shadowed areas, so they were darker colors.
