    Got Professional training?

Yup, I've been wondering about this for quite some time. Some people I do know that they have professional artistic training, but I think there are far more on this board that has it, but that I don't know having it.

I myself have no professional training, all I know comes from online friends and information like here on the Org, and I think I may be in the minority of the folks posting here.. but we'll see.

SO... answer honestly now, do you have professinal training, are you... a PRO? ^^

i have professional training, though i've never done any artwork for pay... so i'm not a paid professional in art... but i am for design.

my major at college was 'general art', so i got a splash of everything. i can work many ways, just not as high caliber as many here who've had specialized training or who are more naturally gifted than i am!

    Somewhat related...

There's this one comment that Jane says in an episode of Daria. It was something along the lines of going to art school to learn all this theory and crap, only to have to unlearn everything if you wanna have your own style.

    I love that..hehe

No one one though me how to draw per say.
My graphic design course in college did have some illustration in it but the best part, life drawing was alway on a thursday mornin and I use to go out and get hammered on a wednesday! Something I REALLY regret now!

So I'm another who has to say "do as I say, not as I do"!

OMG! Baena is a DROP-OUT! Well, I guess this goes to show that school may not have all the answers, or something.

Hmm kinda I think. I did life drawing during my Foundation Course, but Graphic Design taught me other elements when I went to Uni. I just kept drawing cartoons for my friends.

I keep drawing for that reason alone, its good to share.

I am a candidate for B.A. in Graphic Design with a minor in Interactive Media Design.

Some of my professional accomplishments include designing the 75th anniversary logo for Haldex-Hydraulics Corporation, the corporate identity for Midwest Performing Arts Centre, and the official winter holiday card for Rock Valley College.

Among the few things I have posted in the Fan-Art Forum are a collaboration with Seahawk, B.A. in Animation and designer for Mattel, on a Jem and the Holograms redesign, as well as an illustration of Prince Adam and Anakin Skywalker.

Honestly... this came as a suprise to you?
I graduated high school, and did some college, just never finished.
Besides. You could be a crap artist that gratuated from Art Center.
Or a great artist that has a great portfolio and can produce but never graduated from anywhere.

I'd go for the latter were I hiring.

Unfortunately for some, that piece of paper is more important than one would like to be.

Pretty silly isn't it? And to that, as an artist, I wouldn't want to work for such folk.

i did like my time at school... i started off as architecture, and although i'm glad i got the chance to try it, i believe i'd have been better served if i'd gone straight 'art'. i still want some good training in photoshop, and i'd love to take a class fully devoted to anatomy. if i could go back for these two classes, i would in a heartbeat!

currently i'm a stay-at-home mother of 2 small boys... i freelance when i can for web design, but i personally think illustration would be more fun, sometimes! web design changes way too fast... if it were a full-time job, i could do it, but i feel my skills are becoming out-dated faster than i can keep up.

i guess i'll do the 'mommy' thing until my kids are in school, and then re-evaluate what i need to do to get where i want. i'm actually interested to pursue voice-acting instead!

I have a degree in Graphic Design and I manage/art direct the in-house graphic design team for a national financial group. I mainly work in Photoshop, Illustartor and InDesign on a daily basis.

I used to do a lot of illustrations, but have let it go in the last few years. I have a goal set for 2007 to start drawing more.

i've taken a few classes that have really been helpful, but to be honest, most of those classes were taken after i was already a "pro"... i'm self-taught, and the rest was on-the job-training.

whether you take formal classes or not, the real key is hard work--corny, but true! i have been lucky in my career, but if i had worked harder, i would probably be much further along. no one to blame but myself!

I can never look at nate the sameway now.

But I'm sure I can overlook his shortcomings if he did a certain victorian pic for me

I have a degree in animation. It's a pretty useless piece of paper really. It won't help me get any art jobs, because even with a degree I'm still not good enough, and that's what matters. It does look impressive on my resume when I apply for other jobs though, like sales believe it or not. Plus it looks good on my bookshelf. Most expensive decoration I have.

I originally went to school for graphic design, but decided it wasn't for me and dropped out.
I did eventually go back, but that was for programming/networking.

Oh c'mon! I know you work at schools, but I didn't know you were a school snob!

Would it make it up to you if you knew my day job was to help schools? That I create daily, artwork that helps kids all across the country learn english? In book illustration, and computer activities, and that I work on a day to day basis with educational designers?

Really I'm giving back to those few school years where I was a little punk!

Personally I think I've more than made up for my lack in my own schooling, with what I've chosen to do for my career.

I'm like an ex convict that became a cop!
