Speak for yourself, buddy. I think having to pay for the online experience is ridiculous. That is, unless you want to pay for it for me!

Attention to Canadians, the price drop of Mario Galaxy to $49.99 is going to be matched at Best Buys there as well

This is a scan from next weeks Best Buy circular for Canada

And it looks like Medal of Honor Heroes 2 was everything it was praised to be

EA's Team Fusion raises the bar for Wii FPS control.
    http://wii.ign.com/articles/833/833766p1.html

Here is Bozon's review, Matt gives an even more impressive and praise filled 2nd opinion that was a good read.

Overall though, there’s no denying the pure entertainment of Medal of Honor Heroes 2. The game controls amazingly well with IR, is customizable to a ridiculous degree, includes impressive 32-player online play that runs far better than EA’s other online efforts, and even includes some casual-friendly modes with Arcade mode. The game looks beautiful, runs in 16:9 and 480p, and sets the bar extremely high for other Wii FPS titles, as it equips players with the customization necessary to suit each player’s unique tastes. Wii isn’t just about being casual-friendly, and Heroes 2 gets that. With more complex controls built in to the system, hardcore gamers will need more options and customization to make use of the technology, and Heroes 2 puts players in charge of how they want to experience first-person action on Wii. Of course, for those looking for a more casual experience, arcade mode is there, as is the “easy mode only” lock-on cursor control for quick targeting.

EA and Team Fusion were willing to go the extra mile on Nintendo’s console, and the end result is the best controlling shooter on the system, Prime 3 included. Medal of Honor Heroes 2 sets the bar for control, customization, and pure FPS gameplay on Wii - designers take note.

    8.0 Presentation
Narrative voice acting and stylistic briefing videos set the stage for a return to classic Medal of Honor gameplay. Menus are slick and attractive throughout.

    8.5 Graphics
Running at a solid 60 frames per second, Medal of Honor is smooth and visually pleasing. Make no mistake about this game’s graphical leap over the PSP version.

    8.5 Sound
An inspirational orchestral score blends with tons of VO, voice morphing/ear ringing effects for explosions, and simulated surround for an impressive audio experience.

    8.5 Gameplay
IR control gets no better than this for Wii FPS games. Online runs extremely well, and the amount of customization is a huge plus. Still a bit buggy at times, but impressive nonetheless.

    8.5 Lasting Appeal
32-player online, a full single player campaign (about six hours), and an arcade mode added in. This is a great amount of bang for your buck.

    Overall 8.4 Impressive

Thanks Mark! Yeah, I saw all the stores up here in gool ol' Canada that all the prices for games finally dropped to the same $49.99 as the American stores.

Now if only everything else would drop to the same prices, then I'd be one happy consumer.

Anyone happen to get Mario Galaxy yet? There were reports that some Best Buys in the US have broken street date...

For those of you with patience, Circuit City is going to sell Super Mario Galaxy for $35 on Black Friday/Saturday.

    Just figured I'd give a heads-up.....

    You beat me to it!!

Is it me or are there some REALLY good sales this year! I don't know where I'm going to be camping out this year. I'm so glad I got that day off.

I really wish I knew about the Gold DS...I wouldn't have bought a black one last month.

There are a few decent deals for myself - I'll see what the budget looks like, but for right now, the only items I'm interested in game-wise from the sales are Cooking Mama DS for $10, and Heavenly Sword for $48. (Still haven't decided what I wanna do w/Mario Galaxy yet-get it from TRU next week for $50 w/$25 giftcard, or $35 over Black Friday weekend w/no giftcard, or just wait and see if Santa brings it this year ) plus, w/Assassin's Creed next week and Rock Band right before Black Friday, I'm beyond pushing it......

I also wish that Zelda DS Lite was available when I bought my black one last year. It REALLY looks sexy......(Plus I'm a hardcore Zelda nut, though I haven't picked up Phantom Hourglass yet)

And for those of you who don't wanna bother going from store to store over the weekend, keep in mind many stores price match as long as it's a pure sale price and not a gimmick promo like a free "such & such" with purchase, so pick your favorite place, bring all the ads with for 1-stop shopping! (I know Best Buy & Wal-Mart match, and I know Target does not)

I still think the SMB $25 GC from TRU is still the better deal, but thanks!!!

I'm probably going to end up at Best Buy seeing there are some DVDs that I want to get as well as some other gadgets.

I bought PH, but I haven't opened it yet. Way too many games to play at the moment and Mario Galaxy, Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, and Mass Effect haven't even come out yet. I thought Smash Bros. being delayed was going to help, but now I realized it only helped just by a tiny bit.

Well, I just downloaded Check Mii Out and I am actually impressed. I think this will be a good channel as opposed to some others (ie. Everybody Votes Channel). It's cool to see a bunch of Mii's that others created. Some of them are actually impressive. I acquired a Jar Jar Binx, Robocop, Einstein, Batman, and a few others. The contest portion should also be interesting once it gets going. The first one is Mario without his cap.

Of course, it's really dumb that you can only identify your Mii with initials, but I guess they're worried about potty-mouths (but you can still give your Mii initials F.U. ).

I'm not a big Mii guy, but this channel should hold my attention longer than some of the others.

    WarioWare
    Resident Evil 4 (Again.)

    Trauma Center
    The Godfather
    Metal Slug Anthology

    Link's Crossbow Training (Maybe.)

and Bully: Scholarship Edition doesn't come out until February, huh?

Don't get me wrong, LIVE can be a seamless experience, but there are a lot of pros to the wild west of PC and( to a lesser extent) PS3 online gaming.
Not having to get nickeled, and dimed for every community mod is one of them.
Where are these FREE mods you talk about?? I have had to pay for everything. The setup is horrible you can't even pick a match in RB6 you just get thrown in and there are no dedicated servers so lag will occur quick.

You can't drop $4.17 a month to play online??? surf the couch or the car you can have a few months play. I am not tlaking about a month like WOW my buddy drops like $15-10 a month (I can't remember which). A few bucks for a chat system that works and faster loading online is well worth it.

    VC update:

WII-KLY UPDATE: THREE NEW CLASSIC GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

    Nov. 12, 2007

Winter vacation may be weeks away, but there's no need to wait for a fun-filled escape. The latest additions to the Wii™ Shop Channel can take you to places as familiar as a gymnasium or as fantastical as faraway planets. Fans of sports games, space-age shooters and intergalactic action will all find something to love in this week's lively lineup.

Three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

Volleyball (NESŪ, 1-2 players, rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Step onto the court in one of the first volleyball games ever made. Select either the men's or women's competition, choose from one of eight available countries to represent, and prepare for some intensely fun game play. The straightforward controls include all the moves you'll need to effectively direct your six-person team. Take some time mastering them in the training mode, though, because you'll need all the practice you can get when competing against challenging computer opponents. If you feel like some multiplayer action, take on a friend in the two-player mode and see whose skills are more polished. Block, set and spike your way to victory.

AXELAYŪ (Super NESŪ, 1 player, rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Mysterious aliens have invaded the Earth-like planet of Corliss, slowly draining the planet's resources. Take control of the prototype Axelay ship and use its wide range of advanced weaponry to battle enemy forces. Play through multiple stages of action —from other planets to space stations — all on your way to destroying the alien headquarters. You are Corliss' last line of defense, so be careful not to be too distracted by the excellent graphics (including great scrolling effects) and rocking music. Pilot the Axelay using Konami's famously tight play control and experience what many consider to be a classic of the shooter genre.

BLUE'S JOURNEY (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, rated E for Everyone – Comic Mischief, 900 Wii Points): The planet of Raguy has been invaded by the Daruma tribe, changing it from a beautiful and peaceful place into one filled with pollution. Released in 1991, this horizontally scrolling action game tells the story of an insectarian named Blue and his quest to save the planet and keep its inhabitants from being turned into slaves. Use Blue's main weapon, a leaf, to flip enemies onto their heads and then throw them at other members of the Daruma tribe, defeating anyone in your way. Additional weapons, such as bombs and boomerangs, are also available, or you can collect flowers to purchase other special items like honey or swim fins. Blue also has the special ability to change his size at will — if he's too big to fit in a particular area, then shrink him. The bright, colorful graphics, combined with lots of hidden items to find, ensure an enjoyable experience with plenty of replay value. Help Blue muster all his strength and eliminate the Daruma tribe.

Nothing for me this week, which is fine between Guitar Hero 3 and both Mario Galaxy/Assassin's Creed, I'm swamped as it is!!!

For those of you who are thinking about getting Assassin's Creed, Fry's has it on sale for $39.99 for the standard edition this week. If you want the limited edition, you can probably do some maneuvering to get it for $50......

Tell me about it! My wife just picked up the new Fire Emblem (oh my god what an upgrade over the Gamecubes Path of Radiance!!) and between Mario tomorrow and RE Umbrella Chronicles later in the week plus my research and 2 papers due before the middle of December there is just not time!

Thank god Smash Bros Brawl was delayed

Oh and for anyone still wondering about the Toys R Us Super Mario Galaxy $25 Gift Card, it did in fact appear in Sundays ad (the ad is also available online to view) so anyone should be able to get in on the deal when you pick up your copy on Tuesday after 5pm.

I read the fine print, and it looked like it says 1 per person for the gift card, but I have a solution.

One of the copies I reserved was for my aunt to give to my sister for Christmas. So, my aunt is going to go with me to pick up the game tomorrow so that we can get the two gift cards. As long as this pans out, I will take the two cards and put them either towards The Simpsons Game or Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga. I'm not sure which yet.

I would go with the Lego Game, from what i played of the Simpsons game on the PS3 its not worth $50. However, if you are a huge Simpsons fan that should not matter since the cutscenes and animation is top notch.

Absolutely not. Not even if they charged 50 cents. I grew up on free online capabilities, and I believe "free" is how things should remain. If you pay up now, before you know it, they'll be nickel & diming you for add-on packs, bonus levels, and more because you've shown that you think "$4.17 a month is a small price to pay". So, for them, they may say, "hey, what's another $5? You're still under $10 a month."

I agree, the more you initially pay the highest the costs will go. More and more features the majority of users do not like or use will be the reason for increased costs, and sooner or later you are paying $20 a month to play someone in a $70 game online.

I am not totally against paying for online, but since I beta tested with Xbox Live I have not really seen much change in my complaints (I hate the chat function, I cant stand disconnectors who are not severly punished, and I think online tournaments need to cater to all levels).

In other news, there is a rumor that THQ is going to grace the Wii next year with a redone version of the N64's No Mercy, using updated rosters and characters on the Wii Ware channel. Namco did it with Tecmo Bowl so I dont think it would be too hard to remove the old characters and plop in new ones along with midi theme music.

If they were able to add online play I would die

I also grew up with free internet but for a company to st up servers and keep them updated takes money and if you don't want to play on them then you won't have to. I have yet to get anything for Free for a game besides fan made stuff.

Assassin's Creed reviews are hitting, and they teeter between 7 & 9.5. Sounds good, though the negatives are being echoed between all reviews-REPETITIVE gameplay, poor AI, the story giving away the big twist right when the game starts, and a slight lack of polish and tweaking, seemingly done purposely, to finish this installment up and start working on the eventual sequel.

    Here's IGN's review:
    http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/834/834676p4.html

A little disappointing, but still sounds and looks great. (IMO) I'll still grab it Thursday and see how it feels......

XBOX Games on Live and Free XBLA game for all Live members on the 15th. Good stuff Microsoft! All that's left is the Fall Update...anyone know when that hits?

    http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/834/834703p1.html

November 13, 2007 - On November 15, Xbox Live turns five years old. To help mark the occasion, Microsoft has announced several bonuses and a new feature for its over 8 million members. If you missed out on the fun of the original Xbox, it looks like you won't have to scrounge through the used games bin for a second chance.

The big announcement of the day is unquestionably the upcoming launch of Xbox Originals. Beginning December 4, Xbox 360 owners will receive a free system update when they log onto Xbox Live. Along with a number of unannounced features, this update will give players the ability to download original, full Xbox games to play on Xbox 360. Each download will cost 1200 Microsoft Points ($15 USD).

The initial release list includes Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fable, as well as other as of yet unnamed titles. Microsoft has promised that this lineup is only the beginning and that Xbox 360 owners can expect to see the catalog grow in the coming year.

Microsoft is also giving away, as a gesture of thanks, a free game for all Xbox Live members. Between November 15 at 12:01 PST and 11:59 PST on November 16, all active Xbox Live members can download an Xbox Live Arcade game for free. For those in Korea, the game will be Hexic 2. The rest of the world will have the opportunity to snag Carcossonne.

If you've been with Microsoft and Xbox Live since the very beginning, you'll also be in line for one more reward. Every active member who joined the service in 2002 will be credited 500 free Microsoft Points to use as they see fit.

That sucks - I already have Carcassone. I guess that means I will have some more players to compete against though.

In Midwinter, the heat from the oven baking my Shrinky Dinks is all I need!

IMO its just greedy. If games like Guild Wars can have online play without a monthly fee than so can others. They make more than enough money off the game sales. That being said i would not be totally against paying around $5 a month, but anything more than that i wouldnt.
