So I dl'ed and played the Uncharted demo last night. Fun, but for me, personally, I dunno if it's $60 fun. Have to give it a rental to see for myself....

For those who have it, is there a decent balance of platforming/exploring and combat? The demo seemed more combat intensive than I'd like in a full game, but again, I know it's just a demo. The near-endless waves of enemies did start to get a little old to me after the 3rd time around.....

That's how I felt about the demo to heavenly sword. it really didn't make me interested in the game - though I don't have a ps3 heavenly sword ereally was a let down in terms of the demo. just felt kind of meh.

I am surprised at the lack of Capcom NES or SNES games, I know Square is being a bunch of prudes in regards to VC content but Capcom should be all over it ******* their classic IP's other than Ghouls and Ghosts

hemanrep I think is the only one of us who actually owns it (I have played the demo repeatedly) but I read online that the actual game is more balanced.

Its supposed to be a next-gen version of Tomb Raider so I would think they only made combat the focal point of the demo to lure those who like FPS style games

Well, there is a lot of shooting and it is the main game play mechanic, but the game does have other elements such as basic puzzle solving and vehicle stuff. The story also was so interesting that I wanted to keep going. The wave of enemies does get repetitive, but it really didn't deter me from finishing the game -- and I rarely finish games...so that means a lot. And the last 2/3 of the game also goes from Gear of War type combat to more of a fast paced combat that rarely uses the cover system.

It's a short game so may be you'll likely have a better time with a rental, but AAA titles have been hard to come by and I'd rather support the game by purchasing it.

1UP Yours Podcast was glowing with positive feedback about the game and Garnett even said it's his PS3 GOTY. It's an amazingly balanced game that should have sold better than it did. The demo doesn't do it justice.

IGN's review of Nights is in, kinda sad though. Only a 6.5 out of 10. They did have some positives for it, but all in all, it just sounds like it got rushed for X-Mas, and could have used another 3-6 months or so to have been great.....

    http://wii.ign.com/articles/842/842331p1.html

I'll definitely give it a rental, as I've been waiting like many others for 10 years for a sequel and I'd still like to see how it stacks up against the original.....

You should really read the other reviews, its been all over the place. Nintendo Power loved it and gave it a 9, 1up (who HATES the Wii) gave it a 7 but said it was a REALLY good Nights game, and Gamespot gave it a high 7 as well.

    Nintendo Power 9.0

    +Reminiscent of the first title
    +Excellent Music
    +Vibrant colors/Impressive environments
    1up (7.0 GOOD)
At least the new multiplayer online modes focus on playing to the game's strength: flying circles around your friends.

For serious Nights fans, Journey offers a bittersweet reunion that reminds us of what was so singularly special about Sega's airborne dreamweaver. Unfortunately, attempting to evolve the formula creates a host of new problems and issues that ultimately diminish the game's overall appeal. That said, this still represents one of the finest original third-party games available for Wii, and younger players will find a lot to love in this gameplay-rich adventure.
    Gamespot (7.5 GOOD)

It may not have the same magic as its lauded predecessor, but Journey of Dreams is still a fun, if inconsistent platformer that positively drips with style.

    * Smooth, satisfying flight-based gameplay
    * Some clever level designs mix things up
    * Beautiful artistic design and superb musical score
    * Fun, interesting boss encounters.
    The general consensus is

    • Wiimote use sucks but classic or gamecube controller is spot on for gameplay
    • Actual time trials or Nights missions are great
    • Very pretty graphics and excellent musical score
    • Story lacks, and human/kids missions are tedious
    • Great 3rd party game even with "issues" (most of which deal with new elements not the stuff Nights originally had)

I fully agree that the game needed another 3-6 months for development and probably would have sold MUCH better since there is most likely going to be another game drought in March-June after Brawl and Wii Fit hit. As it is releasing it 1 week before Christmas wont garner it much attention anyway, given the hardcore cult nature of the title and the fact that its gotten virtually no promotion.

But I an inclined from what I have seen to trash all the reviews on this game, Nights was a cult classic and scored similar in reviews on its Saturn release (why everyone thinks Nights as getting equivalents to 9's when it was released needs to go back and read)

I am more interested in how the online plays, in no review has anyone said anything about lag or slow framerate, etc. That should be a BIG part of the review since you can race against other people, which at the core is the whole point of the damn game.

These reviews shows whats wrong with game reviewers as a whole this generation, they ***** and moan about the Wii lacking online play and then when it does (like with the new Dragonball or Nights) they almost completely ignore it and dont give it as in depth as it should. I wish game reviewers would write about how the game played more than what the possibilities were or how they feel things could have been done different.

Huh... I didn't even realize that Nights already came out. I'll probably still pick it up at some point, though I will likely wait until after Christmas to see if I get any cash and/or gift cards to help pay for it.

Yeah it came out last week in Japan and yesterday here in the US. It was originally supposed to launch alongside Mario Galaxy but questions about the framerate and overall polish were too much they delayed it another month.

I have been trying to find my Saturn (its in the garage I think) to play the 1st Nights so I can compare the two, but that hunt has not went too well.

DAMN YOU! sigh I still lament that my friend lost my copy. that was the BEST 'demo' of a game ever! one of these days i'll probably pay the ridiculous amount of $$ they are charging for it and get it back. I miss that game and I love the remixed theme song. ARGH my friend SUCKS!!

By all the reviews I read Dragonball 3 is loads better than 2 was (more refined controls) the only downside is that the online battles lag super bad but Atari and Nintendo are working with gamespy on the servers (its a server problem and all 3 companies are aware). With that in mind most places rated it a high 8 almost 9, so if you like the 2nd one that launched with the Wii, you will like the 3rd one.

As ECW/RAW for Wii, I bought it and sold it on ebay the same night, thats how bad it was. It is leagues below Day of Reckoning 2 and not even close to the previous years Raw vs Smackdown 06 or 07.

    My detailed thoughts are here

Jeremy seemed to like it though after playing, I did not mind as much the graphics (they were a bit better than the GC, but the crowd was pre PS1 quality). What made me sell it in less than 2 hours was the fact the game takes you out of the moment, I mean you go through all this work (which was REALLY fun) to win the match and then it goes to a loading screen to play your victory song....for me in wrestling games its all about momentum and that just took me out of every match.

hmm sounds like two games that I WANT to own. reading your review regarding gameplay (and acting out your finisher) it sounds like it a lot of fun to play, more so multiplayer though. I'm not TOO concerned with the load screen victory music part or lack of options. I never tried DBZ 2 but when I saw 3 in the store it looked like it could be a lot of fun. thanks for the heads up.

Oh yeah the gameplay in RvS for Wii is sweet, I mean once you learn how to pull off the moves (its very arcade like and FAST) its a fun time, pulling off the finishers is just too much fun (I use Cena).

but overall the presentation and features blows, I can only hope that they refine it a bit for next years because there is no excuse for the less features than a previous game has (I mean there are matches missing, the CAW is limited, and just overall it seemed rushed).

But the gameplay is solid and THQ really did pull of the finishers with the wiimote and nunchuck (at least for Cena and HHH).

DBZ3 in all regards is more superior to its previous incarnation, if the game had functional online I think we would be hearing a lot more about it and I am holding off getting it till thats fixed because I want to play online (there are at least 15,000 registered users in the US to fight against).

well to be honest i've NEVER touched a wrestling game this decade. so if it's FUN despite the drawbacks you mentioned I think i'll just enjoy it because I won't have many expectations - though I can agree that there isn't ANY excuse for the stuff that is missing. 15000 users?? GEEZ when they clear up those issues that is going to be a BLAST! it gives me time to learn the game though! haha. man so now I got two games to add to my Christmas list.

Yeah I may rebuy RvS once it comes down to $19.99 (about the time the next years version hits) because I really did enjoy playing as John Cena and doing the 5 knuckle shuffle and you cant see me fist drop.

as for Dragonball, provided the online community does not give up on the game because of the lag issues, these were the numbers for last weekend according the Nintendos Wi Fi Service tracker. Its been slowly increasing since the games release so it might hit 50k by christmas

Nintendo WFC Online Activity for Week of Dec 16
USA: [WII] Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 : 33,082 connections

In online news, Nintendo has been actively testing Mario Kart Wii and Smash Bros Brawl online and the numbers rise every week, this last weeks had them at

Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 2,555 connections
Mario Kart Wii - 1,823 connections

Both games should be fully refined by the time they are released

I finally started playing the PSP Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles yesterday, and so far the remake is pretty sweet, and VERY hard. Purists will be sad, however, that all the VO in Symphony of the Night is re-recorded, and mostly re-written.....

No biggie for me, as I still have my PS1 disc, as well as the Xbox LIVE version, which has all the original stuff in it......

I HAVE Bioshock, but I can't play it until I get this card. The onboard 6150 just isn't good enough --- even though it's leaps and bounds more advanced than my ti4800 from before.

Since I'm going to get a 360 eventually, should I just go ahead and get a controller right now to use on my PC? I have to use the USB cable though right, because it won't work wirelessly?

I was going to get the 8800 but it was too a little too much money for me and I would have had to wait for my computer since they didn't have them available. (I just got a new one.)

I love opening up huge documents in PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign and iTunes and Oblivion and marvel at the not slow down.
