Just a little another little insight in to the games industry for you all.

    We have one of our clients visiting today and since I'm the physics programmer, was asked;

"hey, do you have any books of physics papers with some nice equations on them that you can spread on your desk, so you can look clever?"

Gee. Thanks. I really like and respect the person who asked me this, so he narrowly escaped a pummeling. But see...it's not enough that I can show our game physics off to the client and say "isn't that cool? huh? huh?" but I also have to bs him and pretend like I constantly have my nose immersed in complex dynamics papers.

It's not about what you do, it's about what you're being seen to be doing.

(if I seem extra cranky today, it's because I had a wisdom tooth pulled this morning and in a lot of pain right now. blah.)
Yesterday returneth not. Tomorrow perhaps cometh not. Today is thine. Misuse it not.

ugh I HATE that corporate pandering. I remember when some "big wig" was coming into this office I worked at, well the managers made us take down all our personal efects from our desks, remove our wallpapers from our computers and dress in suits and ties. so the guy comes in and asks my friend (I didn't show up to work that day in protest) how come you guys don't have any personal items on your desks? why do you still have the windows wallpaper, and what's with the suit?"

I feel your pain man. I do.

Hah hah hah....that reminded me when Microsfot were gearing up for the original x-Box launch, back when they were still desiging the motherboard and looking for developers to sign up with them. We were all told to "wear a shirt because we have to look good for the Microsoft visit".

I argued with the boss about this saying "we're game developers, how we look isn't important and they know what game developer look like. We're natural slobs with no dress sense, but we get the job done and they know this!"

Anyhow...it didn't work...so after work, I went to the skateboard shop and bought the loudest Hawaiin shirt I could find. After all, it's a shirt right? And Phil (my boss) didn't specificaly say what kind of shirt I had to wear. Needless to say, my boss was not pleased and requested a "quiet little word with me". As it turned out, the MS execs thought my shirt was cool...

*sigh* corporate bs....love it or hate it, you can't get rid of it.

what is Sin and Punishment?? I never heard of it. and yeah I prefer the SMB2 that we got in NA it's probably my fave SMB game (2d) thus far (haven't played new SMB though)
Sin and Punishment was a Nintendo 64 game that was only released in Japan (but is now available thanks to the virtual console). It's a 3rd person shooter. It's sort of difficult to explain how it plays. The camera is set behind your character's back and he/she is constantly running forward. You aim your target with one of the joysticks (using the classic controller that is, I haven't tried it with a gamecube one) and move side to side with the D pad. And from there you pretty much shoot. Everything. If you've ever played the old GI Joe arcade game then you'll get the idea because it's set up just like that.

It's insane and it's awesome! And it definitely had to have been made late in the system's run because the graphics are pretty high-end for a 64 game.

And you should TOTALLY check out New Super Mario Bros! That game is GREAT! Definitely my favorite Mario game since Super Mario Bros 3 and is easily worth buying a DS for that game alone.

with some of those I'd say you are right, they are just playing around with the current features. But with others like the vader, robocop, etc I think it's something else.

I'll definitely grab this, unless it gets terrible reviews. I also can't wait for the sequel in development!

I wonder if it'll be the arcade version or the NES version. I'd think arcade, and maybe Nintendo/Capcom will release the NES version on the Virtual Console.......
    SWEET!!!!!!!

Looks like my prayers have been answered! The Bionic Commando remake for XBLA and PSN is a remake of the superior NES version!!!! Check out first details and footage:

Oh, and the Devil May Cry 4 demo is scheduled to release on 1/31, just 4 days before the game streets.

I too agree that the New SMB ROCKS! Even my fiance got hooked! She was using my DS nonstop during the last week. "GET YOUR OWN!"
If Jack Bauer was on Lost, everything would have been solved in 24 hours!

If Jack Bauer was on Heroes, he wouldn't need to save the cheerleader to save the world.

That looks AWESOME! God we need more "next-gen" 2-D games

I hope they will do one on Wii-Ware as well (there is nothing in there I see that cant be done besides the lighting), but size may be an issue that PSN and XBL do not have since both have big hard drives (or the option for big hard drives)

I also got hyped for Bass Fishing, I LOVED this game on the Dreamcast and it looks like Sega has taken the House of the Dead 2/3 and Ghost Squad route in adding stuff!!

    • Four gameplay modes. Arcade, Tournament, Practice
      and Nature Trip modes
    • 15 stages. Find your favorite fishing spot in seven brand new stages created exclusively for the Wii or re-live your glory fishing days in four classic arcade and four Dreamcast stages
    • Four types of bass. Hook four breeds of bass: Florida Large Mouth, Red Eye, Small Mouth and Northern Spike Large Mouth
    • Improved graphics. This classic title first made a splash in the arcades and now the graphics have been updated for the Wii
    • Authentic simulated fishing experience. New features have been created to take full advantage of the Wii Remote, including driving the boat with the control stick and reeling in your fish with the motion sensor
    • 20 types of lures

Screenshots dont do it justice, everyone should watch the video but I am definitly buying it when it hits in March

Oh yeah and Sin and Punishment ROCKS!! Every N64 owner should be required to play it, it was a travesty it was never released here and if the VC gets no other games I am 100% satisfied since they managed to release it to us that way.

Sega Marine Fishing? My wife likes that one much more than Bass Fishing (you can build an aquarium with all your catches), it also has many more lures and just an expanded universe compared to Bass Fishing.

We actually played both last week (I brought the Dreamcast out of retirement lol), I like Bass Fishing more because its easier for me to play....and you better believe I will be in there Day 1 when it comes to Best Buy.

I still gotta grab me a copy of Ghost Squad...

    nintendo's 2008 game list

    Nintendo Shows its 2008 Hand
Want to know what's coming up for the first half of this year? Click and find out.
    by Craig Harris

January 16, 2008 - Nintendo of America today revealed the list of first and third-party games currently scheduled to ship in the first six months of 2008 for the Nintendo Wii console and Nintendo DS handheld system. More than 65 Wii games and more than 80 DS games are scheduled to ship in the first half of the year.

"The video game industry has never had so many new players, and they've never had so much fun," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "Our momentum is not limited to one

    CSI for the Wii!!! YEAH!

Anybody have any screenshots for Assassin's Creed DS?
If Jack Bauer was on Lost, everything would have been solved in 24 hours!

If Jack Bauer was on Heroes, he wouldn't need to save the cheerleader to save the world.

They're bringing Alone in the Dark to Wii as well? Excellent!

What's up with Day of Disaster? I don't really know much of anything about it but the screenshots I've seen look aswesome as all hell and I haven't heard anything about it in months. And what about that exploratory, post-apocalyptic RPG that's supposed to be coming out? Fragile, was it? Something like that. That looks awesome too. And isn't that Sonic RPG by the team that made KOTOR supposed to be coming out this summer too?

Oh, and you know what I just heard about on G4 last night that I'm really psyched for? Myst DS. That'll be AWESOME.

Yes there was a BIG write up with screenshots in the latest issue of Nintendo Power about it, and there is also a Fatal Frame game coming to the Wii, so we will get some nice variety in 2008

Day of Disaster was spoken about briefly last year at E3, its being developed by Monolith (remember Nintendo bought them before the Wii came out), I would expect it to be a Fall game but they made sure to reiterate it was not dead and was in fact being refined.

Fragile, was it? Something like that. That looks awesome too.
yes Fragile looks awesome but it wont come out till late Spring in Japan and then has to be localized so I would not expect it here anytime soon, we will see the Tales of Symphonia sequel in the US before Fragile I think.

I am dying for No More Heroes. My Wii is starting to collect dust!

Also, just an FYI...the new issue of Game Informer came in the mail today. It has tons of previews but the ones that interested me the most were Samba De Amigo for Wii. And Street Fighter 4...

They show 3 brand new in-game screen caps of Ryu and Ken fighting in the old SF2 China stage. You know the one with the shops, and chickens running around? Anyway what I found most interesting is that while it all looks AMAZING...the characters hair, and lots of other stuff in the background had "jaggies"! Similar to Mario Galaxy. You know when they take the cap from a high def television? It's blatantly obvious. I hope this is a sign for a Wii version! Also, Capcom is quoted as saying they want the game to get to the most people it can. Why not go with the number one console??

The "hadouken" looks different too lol. All purple and smokey with a blue orb light in the center. LOL.
