So the post office lost my Superboy for two days in transit. Finally came in today. The head does suck in person. Slightly better in hand, but still no bypassing the quality of the head sculpt and other things like the eyes. Yeah he's also big, but I personally prefer Superboy to be a big guy eventually growing into Superman. So the scale is perfect for me.

I figured the Terry McGuiness head would be a good head swap til the 52 Superboy head from DCC gets released. And it's not bad, but the 52 Superman head actually works a lot better since it's a younger look anyway. The skin tones don't match, but I'm really satisfied with the final result.

Which Superboy is this? Is it from the Young Justice line?

Nope, part of the 2014 DCIE figures from the cancelled sub. He'll be sold on Matty in a few months.

Ah OK. Out of interest how did you manage to score one before the general release?

Yuck!!! What in the hell happened to Superboy's face. He looks old and is ugly as hell. I always thought that he was supposed to be handsome and have a youthful look. Awful looking figure.

Often it was something that happened in production, I don't remember seeing the preview shots of Superboy to compare though.

I've looked at the protos and they look very similar. The face sculpts have been horrible with the last releases. Superman 52, Ice, Fire, Elongated Man, Wonder Woman 52, Ra's Al Ghul, all look like they have been beaten with the ugly stick. So glad I stopped collecting these and didn't subscribe to them. They are not worth the price. I hope we don't start to see this type of face sculpting in our Masters line.

I am not one of these guys that nitpicks details, after all they are just toys. But even I have to say the head sculpt is one of THE worst I have seen in a long time. I would rate it just as bad as the Star Wars Black Mara Jade...and that's bad!!

Whomever designed this was either drunk or just didn't give a damn. I am just really shocked that Mattel let it go through and didn't send it back for re-work.

He looks like a boxer or a member of the Italian Mafia. We have for sure it was done up by the Fourhorsemen?

This is probably why the sub didn't go through. The figures look ugly. Whichever Horsemen sculpted some of these newer faces should be banned from doing human faces. He's probably the same guy who gave us Frosta.

I'll disagree with EM, Ice, and WW 52. All of those have good sculpts. WW 52 suffers from the fact that the sculptor was trying to mimic the horrible art the figure is based on...Jim Lee. It's still not that bad.

Chris Dahlberg, who sculpted Superboy, also did Seahawk for MOTUC before he left the 4H. If I remember you like that figure. He's definetly has a lot of talent but this Superboy sculpt just looks bad IMO. He's also done EP Randor, Standor, Procrustus, and Dekker.

He's done a bunch of great stuff for DCUC including: Ares, Grundy, Swamp Thing, and tons more.

You can see some of his stuff on his website : http://www.bergerinc.biz/

This was also sculpted the same time as 90's Superboy in the retail glory days of the line, so you have to wonder about the inconsistency.

Wait, when did Chris Dahlberg leave the 4HM? I'm so out of the loop on figure news lately. I don't know who sculpted Ra's al Ghul's head, but that has to be one of the worst head sculpts I've ever seen. Instead of sticking to the Bronze Age design, the sculptor added these ugly puffy bags under his eyes.

He left a few months ago over disagreements on how the company was being run. Other three Horsemen bought him out.

Wow, I guess they'll have to change their name now. Sorry to see there was trouble in paradise after all the good work they've done together.

Due to SCB's awesome pics a few pages back I had to track down the DC Collectibles Arkham Origins Batman. He's quite amazing and I reviewed him here: http://www.thepicreview.com/2014/01/...om-arkham.html

I also snapped up the Total Heroes Batman. I really like him. He's a very solid, durable figure with a surprising amount of articulation: http://www.thepicreview.com/2014/01/...n-from-dc.html

Severely lacking waist articulation, but otherwise a a great figure. 52 Deadshot

Finished Kilowog today finally. Which I still wish we had gotten an Indigo-1, and a Ganthet. But only a few back log figures to pick up, but most are would be nice to have nothing more.

Can we talk about smaller DC figures here? I just got my first Multiverse figure: Mr. Freeze. I saw the rest of these guys at Toys R Us and wasn't overly impressed, but this guy is really quite fantastic: http://www.thepicreview.com/2014/01/...e-from-dc.html

I ordered him offline last week and did have to get a replacement due to a QC issue (you can tell it's Mattel!) but the second figure is awesome.
