keep it comin'...!!!
Now ya see the reason why I don't draw realistic Its been such a long time, that my proportions are all skew-iff.
If you've been watching the Wraptor discussion, you'll have seen all the mythos thats been generated from it about Eternia before even Pre-Eternia. Its truely inspiring stuff. I've been thinking about the first Sorceress, what she would be like. Using the Aztec feathered Serpent, Quetzocoatl, I'm trying to fashion out her look, so this is all roughs in Sketchbook Pro.
I see her very much as a warrior, a leader of her people. SHe is bald, and has ritual tattoos on her head (The forked tongue which I promise will not look corny), with the body of her serpent form tattooed around her. Basically she'll be hardcore. With Wraptor and Fear-O, she'll have a tough battle ahead.
The idea I had is that the site of Castle Grayskull is originally where her temple was (Its surrounded by rainforest in the 200x version, I think which is part of the idea), and Castle Grayskull was built around to contain her legacy. Its still a work in progress, and this doesn't negate the King Grayskull story, for those who love it, nor the Green Goddess, of which I am a big fan. Any thoughts and crits are welcomed. Seriously crit me, I want to improve.
Wow! This is great so far! I'm really digging her being bald... its very striking, plus Brit could play her in the movie ;-) JK... seriously though this is looking very cool.
SMB! i love the concept--but i'll get to that in a sec. since you asked for crits, here are a few (nothing major to be honest)... i think the head could be just slightly more oblong, the hands could be a smidge smaller, and the torso could be a tiny bit longer. honestly, so much of that is about personal style and preference though. actually-the short torso thing is something my friends bug me about all the time on my drawings. and i draw big hands too! don't be so hard on yourself--the drawing is starting off strong--i really dig that headdress!
now about the concept--the feathered serpent thing is genius, combining the snake and falcon sorceresses. so here's an idea--your character could be the original goddess/sorceress, and from her there descended two lines of sorceresses--one wearing the skin of a snake, and the other wearing the skin of a falcon. the green goddess and her lineage would extend from the snake side, and the sorceress that he-man knows would extend from the falcon side... actually now that i mention this, has anyone else come up with a similar idea? i don't read any fanfic, so i wouldn't be aware if others had thought of this already?
Bootleg thats bloody brilliant. I'm LOVING the idea of the two decendants... they should be twins too me thinks. WOW I'm getting real excited about this. Oh the things that develope, when you first mentioned her in the wraptor thread it sounded like such a cool idea, had no idea i'd be seeing her so soon either. lol
i like the concept, but there is just a little thing wrong.
THE FIRST SORCERESS was Queen Veena, wife of King Grayskull the Great
1) There was no castle Grayskull before Grayskull's lifetime (by the very nature of the name).
2) The point of the Sorceress was to guard the sword and act as a liason with the Elders. This was not a needed position before Grayskull and there were no Elders before he died. So Veena became the first.
Yes, there were probably other Sorceresses on Eternia before Veena, but not Sorceresses of Grayskull.
However, since Grayskull lived a LONG time ago, there has been time for many others to follow. IIRC, Grayskull lived at least 1,000 years ago...
Skeletoncrew Glad ya diggin the concept. I think I'm going to draw her in chibi form first so I get a quick and better idea of what I'm after.
Patreek Britney....gah!!! LOL. I kinda liked her bald too, its really odd. Still not sure if she will be human or Gar like you suggested. Maybe Gar...I'll try both schemes.
Bootleg Don't worry about the crits, its what I wanted. I can see where you're comign from, and I'll see what I can do. As for the head shape I worry about making them look like egg heads I do like the twin lineage thing branching off with SNake and Falcon. Its a really good idea. I'll see what can happen
Ionus The trouble with me is, when I get an idea it'll keep gnawing at me till I do it. I wasn't originally going to put this up, but I need the crit work. And its nice to get others input and opinions.

The feathered-serpent idea is a masterstroke - such a great way to combine the snake-armored Sorceress/Goddess of the early mini-comics and the more famous bird Sorceress!
As for Castle Grayskull before Grayskull - well, the Powers of Preternia has the Castle existing before King Grayskull, and him just taking his name from it, so it's not as if there you couldn't have a work around anyway, if you wanted her to have the Castle as well (or, built after she has passed on). Given her design though, she doesn't look like the type to have such a gothic castle built for her legacy, but rather something more mesoamerican. I like your idea of her temple being on the future site of Grayskull.
IMO, she should be green skinned, like the original mini-comic Sorceress (or Green Goddess, if we must refer to her as that)Patreek Britney....gah!!! LOL. I kinda liked her bald too, its really odd. Still not sure if she will be human or Gar like you suggested. Maybe Gar...I'll try both schemes.
EDIT: Just noticed Bootleg's comments on the two lines descending from her, for snake and bird Sorceress/Goddesses - very interesting idea!
Flesh, Green and Blue.
Her tattoos would look cool on blue I think.
How comes this and other things ;-)
i'm glad people dug the idea about two lineages extending from the feathered serpent... as for continuity, i must confess my MYP knowledge is poor at best, though i do think there are ways around it. also, to be honest, i was thinking of a more generalized idea that really could be used for either classic or MYP continuity.
i can't wait to see how this shapes up, super-munkyboy--this character of yours is really an awesome idea... and i think you're right on about those tattoos going with the blue skin.
All the debating of possible origins aside, I really like her look. She kind of reminds me of Ilya from 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture'.
Personally I don't think there's too much trouble fitting her into the time-line, as there are so many differing versions of the mythos anyway, and 'The Power of Grayskull' itself was ret-conning and never mentioned before.
Maybe she was a very early Sorceress that guarded the abyss from a magical cave, near the ground where Castle Grayskull would one day be constructed.
Spacedust Glad ya liking her look dude. Not sure who Ilya is (Not a big Star Trek fan... Don't beat me). The way its been planned, I don't think it disrupts the 200X timeline at all. Things will fall into place as time progresses
bootleg I think I hit a tender spot with continuity. LOL is there such a thing, it seems to change in the 200X series. For example Serpos.
Hopefully should have 3 skin colour versions of The Sorceress ( She doesn't have a name as of yet) up by tommorrow, my energy permitting. Once they are out of they way I can try and create a selection of costumes. I'm treating this as a proper brief.
Anyway, one of the fun things about MOTU is, even beyond retroconning, it is always possible to add and open up pockets in the time-line history. I mean, going by the 200x version, it was never stated that Keldor was Randor's brother... but there's nothing to say that he wasn't either. Just about anything can be worked in with a little planning.
i really like you concept, but i would say your sorceress is maybe the second or the third sorceress or something like that, because i'm still thinking that veena was the first sorceress, and if the green goddess war earlier than veena - she is a GODDESS and no sorceress.
but i really mean that in a nice way
well maybe all we're talking about here then is a difference in titles... if she was a goddess would she be more paletable?
I mean we call The Green Goddess that yes, but she is still one of the sorceress' in my mind....
Oh see I view the green goddess as a Goddess. She's taken on a whole different meaning for me. But tahts just me. What say nate? It would be itneresting to get his take.
Obey the whip!
Smile like you mean it.
I think this is a cool concept.
I don't feel like she takes away from the Green Goddess or Veena.
I kind of like that this lady was before, and that at one point her lineage split.
There was a fusion of Veena and the Green Goddess that created this fiery serpent Sorceress.
I say keep this concept going!
The fun of MotU is that the timeline for it is WIDE open.
Kindof "Eternal"... Like it all happens on, "Eternia".
Thing is about fan created characters like the Green Goddess, sure I see her one way, Divia sees her another, that's okay, that's cool. To each their own.
It's not like any of us can use these characters for a real story or profit anywhere, so by that, we are all pretty much free to "see" or "visualize" these characters as we wish.
If you don't like that, then don't post your ideas here.
Write your own story with your own characters and NOT on Eternia or have anything to do with the Masters of the Universe.
What bothers me just a little though, is when there are great debates over certain fan characters. There's nothing to debate in my opinion, none of it is official in any way.
If you want to debate official characters like King Grayskull and Veena, you really should just stick with what's in the cartoon.
Sure there can be speculation on what happens "between the lines". But that "speculation" just turns into fan fic for all intents and purposes.
But back on topic, I want to see this idea fleshed out further! I think it's off to a great start.
Because with all I've said here, there should be no stopping the fun we can have in this community.
(Unless you get too busy like myself, and can no longer contribute.)

Spacedust - Planning is right. There has been a bit going on behind the scenes. A kind of fan project is brewing. Its a lot of fun.
HordaksHenchmen - Cool dude. Like I said, I didn't have a problem with your opinion. Its just what I write sometimes comes off a bit wrong.
Divia - Its interesting how these characters do evolve so seperately. You see her as a Goddess, and I see her as a Sorceress. I guess, the base is a magical weilding lady
Baena - Dude, glad ya could stop by. I wanted to get your opinion, but didn't want to hassle ya. I think the first point you made is something I was originally going for. Her lineage does get split, and her origin is different. Its fleshing out as time goes by. Dude, this concept isn't going anywhere, I'm having way to much fun with it. At least in my head so far! Thanks for the comments though Nate, I hope you get some time off soon.
Hopefully by tonight you'll see a basic form for a colour scheme. It'll be in chibi form, which may disappoint, but its the quickest way for me to work, as I also have little time. It'll be a seperate thread too, as they'll be a poll involved.
Oh dont get me wrong. I am not saying my version is right. But it is interesting to see how people latch on to characters. I mean who would have thought that becuase Nate did this super kickass GG pic that people would suddenly want her to become a larger part of the mythos in MOTU.
Everyone has their own versions. I always believed her to be a Goddess from anceint times who gave up the to a hero many moons ago. She is neither here nor there but watches over the universe as its Guardian and keeper. Kinda like the Sorceress but bigger.........and greener
