His game backfired and he got caught. People making excuses are just embarrassing, its nothing Silva has not done for years it just did not work as planned.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA I KNEW IT! I won't deny that Silva is an absolute amazing fighter with a very strange gameplan. My jaw hit the floor when he was put up against the cage, turned out of it and escaped....then said to himself 'what the hell lets do it that way' and goes back onto the cage and tells Weidman to come back to him. Epic!

Yeah that was a real stunner! Great fight! I'm curious to see where Anderson is gonna go from here and how long Weidman can hold onto the title. I think Vitor is deserving of the next title shot, I'd like to see if Weidman can get past him.

I think Anderson has secured an amazing legacy. What I gathered him saying is "I've held the title long enough, I'm passing the torch. I may fight again, but I'm not going after the belt"

He did the same thing with Bonnar.

Dana says it will be a rematch between Anderson and Weidman. Anderson says he needs time to think and be with his family, then will make a decision. Dana says there will be a rematch.

Not as many as you would think, so far all I have seen is people enjoying Silva getting what he deserves for his taunting style and a very loud "he wanted to drop the belt, he needed a break" excuse brigade.

I also don't buy his wanting a break, he rarely fights compared to the rest of the circuit so I chalk that 110% up to being embarrassed and it was the easiest cover. But now that he lost I also do not see him really wanting the belt again, he does not need the money nor does he need the acclaim.

What makes me upset is the amount of people claiming Weidman does not have the skills to be champ, and that is so far from the truth its laughable. He may or may not hold the belt long but he certainly does have the power and technical skill to be the UFC Titleholder.

He will fight again. And if Dana has his way, he will rematch Weidman, and this time, probably beat Weidman. Actually, the most common critique I'm seeing is that Anderson was defeated by his own cockiness and arrogance, not by Weidman. Which is essentially true. If he hadn't been playing up being hurt by Weidman and had taken the fight more seriously, I and many others seriously doubt we'd have a new champion. Weidman is no where close to Silva's skill level. I bet we see a more serious Silva in the rematch.

Yeah but you could use that argument anytime a champion falls. His overconfidence did him in that is completely true, but its totally disrespectful to Weidman to make the claim he could not beat Silva because he in fact did.

If you get bested you get bested, could should woulda means nothing in sports.

This should teach Silva to be more serious though. Hopefully Weidman continues to grow, even if he loses I think he has a great future ahead of him given his age and skill level.

No one is denying he wasn't beat. But if he hadn't been clowning and overplaying being hurt . . . I think a focused, serious Anderson beats Weidman easily in the rematch.

So is this more like when Mike Tyson lost his title belt to a guy who then went on to do kinda nothing?

Not likely. Chris is determined and talented. He does not have Silva's talent at this time, but in time, he could become a great champion.

On a side note, looks like Dana is trying to expedite the Silva-Weidman rematch. Looking at late December.

I believe Silva was getting tested so he resorted to his antics again. He took it too far and got caught.Weidman showed great head movement and well rounded skills. He deserved to be in there. This loss shouldn't tarnish Silvas legacy but what an embarrassing moment.

Embarrassing without question. The rematch should be serious business, though.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Silva wants rematch asap.

Cyborg vs. Coenen this weekend! Huge fight for WMMA. Invicta is the second-best promotion in North America.

    - - - Updated - - -

Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman 2 set for December 28th with Rhonda Rousey vs. Meisha Tate set as the co-main event. Hell yeah!

I haven't bothered with the last few seasons of TUF, but I'll check this one out. I cant wait to see if the girls act like a bunch of knuckleheads, like the guys usually do.

Pettis is the new champion by first round armbar! Wow!

Anyway, I haven't been this excited for a season of TUF in a LONG time. Most of the girls on there are well-known, talented veterans. It's almost like the first season and second season of TUF as far as the girls go. Toxeira vs. Bader, Okami vs. Jacare Souza, and the two-hour premier of TUF all on Fox Sports 1 this Wednesday! 8 hours of UFC - whoo!

Great Fight for the Troops card tonight!

    Velasquez dominated dos Santos!

    Handerson vs Belfort this weekend!

    GSP vs Hendricks next weekend!

    Very cool Facebook page!

I used to follow UFC religiously until I stopped going out to see the pay-per-views about four years ago. Now I'm out of the mix.

I'm really surprised there isn't more MMA talk here on the Org. Seems like MMA and He-Man would go hand-in-hand!

I think that the main reason why people have a hard time talking about it more is right in the self reasoning that you personally mentioned. I'm a fan of it as well, but I find myself alienated as I'm sure that MANY others can relate by the whole continuous PPV thing. It's hard to talk about it when you can't see and are unwilling to pay for these things.

Not that the sport is going to die off or something, but that will always be the one thing that will NEVER make it a major force in the "sports" world as we know it.

When you can't just turn on the TV and watch a highly anticipated bout aside from the rinky dink things they do on Fox now and then bout without paying $60+ that's a problem.

I'm sure that's one of the MANY reasons which killed boxing and WWE even started to feel the heat until the network hit.

UFC needs a network like WWE in the long term if you want to add/keep fans. $10.00 a month with access to PPVs and archives is a great deal. $60+ per PPV which seems like every month or so isn't and it just forces you out and to loose interest.

Yes, I know that they have some crap now, but it blows since it doesn't include PPVs.

You are obviously talking about the UFC, not MMA, in your post, so I'll address a few things:

    1) The UFC is not losing fans, buyers, or growth. It (MMA) is the fastest-growing sport in the world. Growth occurs on a big scale in other countries aside from Canada and United States. While it may have peaked in Canada and the U.S. (for the time being), it has NOT in other countries.

    2) UFC Fight Pass (the "crap" you mentioned) is worth the ten dollars a month. What do you get? Live UFC events, almost every fight in the UFC library available, other fight organization libraries, live Invicta FC events, international seasons of TUF, and more is coming.

    3) UFC makes a huge chunk of their money on PPV. You don't have to buy it - buy what you want. That said, there are ways to watch without buying it. I do it all the time (streaming sites, bars, etc.).

    4) FOX fights are NOT "rinky dink." #1 contender fights and title fights are on FOX shows, and occasionally FoxSports1 shows. How are those fights "rinky dink"? There have even been FOX cards that are better than PPV shows.

    5) WWE did not suddenly "do better" when their network hit. In fact, their stock dropped when subscribers did not meet expectations. It took a great while before they met their minimum number. UFC Fight Pass numbers continue to rise and surpass expectations (and again, with more content coming).

    6) Your narrowing MMA to UFC (which is clearly what you are referring to when you say MMA in this post) is also unfair and shallow, as that is disrespectful to those other organizations with top-notch, top of the food chain talent (Bellator, WSOF, Titan FC, Invicta FC, ONE, etc.). Those organizations have fighters that could do very well in the UFC. And every card they put on, UFC or those mentioned, should not be so shallowly or wrongly be termed "rinky dink." If all you care about are the "name" fights, such as Ronda Rousey, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, and GSP, you are a different, very casual fan of MMA.

Well...I'd love to spent endless amounts of time jabbing back and forth with you on each point and believe me I could sit here and provide a counter for each one of them, but I'll keep it short. Even though much of what you say IS relevant, the point of the matter is the same non the less.

It's the SPORT itself, not just the UFC as all of the organizations involved in it have limits as long as PPV it attached to it and that's indisputable. You can talk about the fastest growing sport in the world all day long BUT it's FARRRR from the most popular anywhere in the world or even close in part to self imposed limitations.

You can't pump up the poster boys and then hide them in the back. Nobody wants to watch the regular season if you know you're gonna be shut out of the playoffs and Superbowl. These guys are the Bradys, Mannings, Ruths, etc.. of the sport and the sport doesn't let you see them. I'm sorry if you don't see it that way, but it's just the truth and a negative when you wanna talk about growth and such.

I'm a HUGE football and Baseball fan, but I guess according to you that's not good enough because I don't pay too close attention to things like what's going on day to day in the minor leagues, Japan or the CFL.....Well...newsflash of the day neither does most of everyone else and they love baseball and football just the same because the best of the best are available front and center.

You have to remember your talking from a HARDCORE fans perspective so you may be blind to a lot of the obvious issues with it, but the average and VERY LARGE % of the population doesn't want to see "John Smith" vs. "Mark Johnson" so all of these little underground back door fights do next to nothing.

You're obviously going to super defensive on anything to do with this topic, but don't let that get in the way of the reality of the situation. It just is what it is.
