    The Conan Movie thread!

Wahoo, Conan is in finally in the works and there's a teaser poster:

I'm not blown away by it but it's official and that's whats most important.
I may just have a bash at vamping that artwork up a bit!

Can't wait for it. I love the old movies and I've been reading the Dark Horse Conan comics as they are published in trade-paperback form.

I'm glad to see they're sticking closer to the true Conan vision.

I wonder if the animated Conan Red Nails film is still on track?

There's two. Conan The Barbarian is a beautiful movie.
It strays quite a bit from the original Robert E Howard stuff but it's still a great film. Conan the Destroyer is more campy and just not as good but worth a watch.

And Red Sonja is really good. Ahnald plays Conan without actually BEING Conan.

And about the new movie. I'm glad to see Conan is huge and buff (And he's not being slimmed down for the mainstream media to have some prettyboy). And I also hope that longstanding rumors are not true and Triple H has NOTHING to do with this.

I highly doubt that there will ever be a better Conan movie than the ones with Schwarzenegger.

Not speaking actorwise, but definitely bodywise.

Because what better fitting actor can you ask for than a "Mr. Universe"?

They may beef him up a bit using the "300" movie style.

I am looking forward to this!

He played a character called Kalidor and the movie was aweful man.

A guy who's a little bit more believable perhaps?
I loved Arnie in Conan but the movies are quite different from what Robert R Howard's wrote. A lot of die hard Conan fans hate the Arnie movies.

"Conan the Barbarian" is a classic. The old edit is better than the one with the added scenes of the princess that's on the DVD I have.

"Conan the Destroyer" is weak but mildly entertaining. But then again I have a thing for Grace Jones.

"Red Sonja" is pure camp. It makes 1980's "Flash Gordon" look like "Schindler's List."

Yeah I know. That's what I meant about the "Conan without being Conan". He played the exact same character but a different name. And like Barefoot Jedi said, it's camp. That's what makes it so fun. And I perfer movie Sonja's outfit to the scalemail bikini she wears EVERYWHERE.... even in the snow.... oy! I just goes back to my preference of practicality over fanservice.

If Red Sonjia had that chainmail bikini in the film it would've suited the camp more I think.

I agree with Pig Boy here in full. the original Conan was a masterwork. Great score, meaningful dialogue, and VICIOUS action scenes. The intro scene where his father speaks to him about the "Riddle of Steel" still gets to me...great stuff.

The sequel..not a bad film, but VERY "HollyWood"..I WANT a mace like BomBadah's though...SO WICKED!! Give it up for Wilt Chamberlain! lol

Red Sonja? PEW...bomber with porno-movie production values..

    Just my 8 cents.

....and hey...Jedi...step off Flash Gordon..thats a WICKED film..more of a rock opera. Listen to what Alex Ross has to say about it in the DVD commentary..I totally agree with him . the film is just pure FUN..and many moments in that movie I just THRILL to..GREAT stuff! Either you "get" it or you dont...sadly, usually the "Star Wars/Alien" crowd doesnt "get" it...

"FLASH....AHHH-AHHHHHHHHH!!!!" I mean come ON, its liquid GOLD!!

Has anyone ever seen this movie?

I don't know if this guy can act but everytime I see his face on the cover to "End of the Spear" at Suncoast, I end up wondering if Frazetta's Conan really could be out there somewhere.

Otherwise, I only really regret that King Conan: Crown of Iron was not Arnold's last movie instead of Terminator 3: Rise of the Unnecessary. Also it stinks that there will never be another Basil Poledouris Conan score.

That looks like Arnold in the poster to me. They're definitely re-using his image for the teaser.

I don't know who they'll choose to play Conan, but I hope he can come close to Arnie's physique. I don't want some wimpy "Beastmaster" Conan. I wan't a huge "He-Man" Conan like Schwarzenegger!

You misunderstand me totally! I am in love with 1980 Flash Gordon!!! In person I could act out the entire movie to you just about AND sing/hum along to the musical parts. I've seen it hundreds of times.

    My favorite moment...from the wedding:

PRIEST: Do you, Ming the Merciless, ruler of the Universe, take this woman Dale Arden to be your Empress of the hour?
    MING: Of the hour, yes.
PRIEST: Do you promise to use her as you will?
    MING (grinning): Certainly!
PRIEST: Not to blast her into space?
MING gives the PRIEST a scandalized look.
PRIEST (worried): Until such time as you grow...weary of her.
    MING: I do.
    DALE: I do NOT!

Can't verify it, but I'd bet it's just old stock Conan imagery that is being reused for this quick teaser.

Early teaser posters like this are sometimes rush-jobs that don't have the final movie images. An example would be the first teaser poster for the CGI TMNT movie. It had this bizarre looking turtle that was pretty much an early concept design.

For this poster, they probably just grabbed a shot of Arnold holding the sword and Photoshopped it a bit.

That arm looks a lot like Schwarzenegger's to me:

the official site has a blog that was last updated 10/04/07, so it's chugging along...

    http://www.conanrednails.com/

it's also been announced that there will be both a PG-13 and Unrated release, so it sounds like it's going to be pretty action-packed...
