MotU Redesign Challenge #79 - Light Spinner

This weeks redesign-challenge is something of an unknown, but at the same time WELL-known.

Lightspinner, was the human alter-ego of Shadow Weaver, the Hordes resident mistress of the blackest arts.

A fellow student and friend of Castaspella, but sadly with a crucial character-flaw, with too big of an ambitious streak,
Light Spinner will sacrifice everything, including body and soul, to obtain wast magic powers.
She has a dark, bleak future in front of her.

The rules, as per usual: All people who choose to participate will have two weeks to come up with a redesign for this character. You can use any medium you wish. You can sketch, paint make a 3-D model, make a sprite, make a custom action figure, whatever you want. Its entirely up to you!

As well, you don't have to force yourself to make your design conform to the new cartoon or comic book's style. Be as drastic in your redesign as you see fit. Whatever makes you happy.
If you can't think of a new design, or just hate the idea of working on him, you do not have to feel obligated to participate in this particular challenge. You will still be free to participate in any future challenges you wish.

I'm so excited about this redesign! There's been alot of great Shadoweaver art tossed around the boards by the fans, but I hope this thread sparks the creation of some new material.

Welcome back man. We haven't seen you in these parts for ages! Goody that you are interested in this character, spells good for the challenge.

I found the transformation of Light Spinner into Shadow Weaver......

Here's the line work for my submission (my first contest!) - I'll post the colored version when I get it done ... (I think I've seen that done before, is that ok?)

My take is that this is soon before she goes over to Hordak. She wears robes that mostly cover anything illicit she might have gained in her quest for power (tainted magic items, dark ritual tattoos, etc).

Anyway, that's what I got.

Edit: I have replaced the line work with the colored version. I hope to get some more detail pics added, but who knows what time will bring!

wow, these look good!

Monikasvo: i like the (castaspella) lightning pattern all over as well as the disk.
j-bird: love that you kept the filmation inspired hair, and the concealing concept , very nice!
the raw: great weapon!! love the matching beauty mark too.

Avril: nice and simple, i think the belt and the red robes say it all!

Wow! The entries have just been rushing in since yesterday!

Yaoi: I think this is your best design so far. Seems very much in style with the original character, but taking on fresh new ground. I'm surprised you were the only one to use gold and white in your design. I figured something like those colours too. Is the skin white on purpose btw, or haven't you gotten around to colouring it in?

Avril: I see that you went with a fairly traditional cartoon-inspired Light Spinner, except for the visible face of course. Like the belt, really puts the final touch on the design, and brings it all together.

You've got a really great, altho somewhat daring,

version of Light Spinner. I really like that you have captured a sort of cockiness and arrogance in her expression, while still managing to cover up most of her face. Yours has the best accessories so far, imho.

J-bird: Glad to see you've decided to join, mate. I welcome you for sure, and hope to see you as a regular on here.

Yours have a very regal, slightly snobbish, look to her. Love the idea you have for the coat, that it's the first stage of her having to hide things she's done to herself. Love to see that coloured mate, do you think you can reveal a little bit what you see her colour-scheme as?

Monikasvo: Moni, moni, moni my friend. Looks like this girl really got you inspired, eh?

This is one of your strongest pieces to date, and my favourite of all the entries so far. I simply love the outfit, with it's homage to both the cartoon and comic, with the disc as a nice homage to her mystacorian ties, and her face. She just simply looks dashing! With a really cheeky but also somewhat kind look to her visage.

Thanks a lot. The skin is white on purpose to go along with the light theme (ditto for all the gold).

Mine kept the red of her clothes and slightly shredded arms, like she had been trying spells maybe Castaspella was doing and kept getting them wrong.

Yeah, I wanted something "familiar" - the sleeves are also somewhat similar to Shadow Weaver's in that they are sort of a single piece that goes behind her body.

Thanks - I have replaced the line work with my colored version in my post above, so everyone can see the color scheme.

I wasn't sure on her wristbands/gauntlets/whatever, but I went with red and gold on a black background (to kind of show the darkness to which she'll eventually succumb). I had them sort of a silvery-grey, but I decided these "went better" with her costume.

And of course, being Light Spinner, she's spinning some lights.

Interesting to note is that darn, the second place in the poll is a pretty darn close race!

For the longest time I thought it would be Catra's big pink kitty that would take the silver-medal, but it seems as if the ultimate evil in the MotU-universe may end up conquering it anyway!
