I love these William George posters!
    Thanks for posting them!
I had as a kid, and now again I have as an adult that first one with the mysterious blue knight in the Wind Raider. I love it, it's hanging right above my monitor in my office.

I believe one was done for each year after that Battle Armor one right?
That first one was released in 1984.
Then the next one was more horde oriented for 1985. That one that you just posted Megalodon... Thanks!
1986 was that Eternia one I believe.
Then in 1987 there was one that was more Powers of Grayskull oriented no?

I'd love to see similar high res scans of the other two!

What would you like the specs to be (dpi, etc)

If you let me know via pm or post I can go ahead and scan it in multiple sections and you can put them together!

If Eamon's game for that, that's cool!
If you need anyone else to help? I'd be happy to step up.

I would say scan them in at 300 dpi. Once put together, that'll be one big image. Anything for web though should run at 72 dpi. But it's always best to shrink down, not blow up.

But an 8 x 10 piece of the poster at 300 dpi jpeg, should be fairly managable for sending via emails. At that size and resolution, each piece should ring in at between 4-6 megs.
If you compress the jpeg down to say 10 (on photoshops typical 0 -12 scale) They'll weigh in between 2-3 megs. And at 10 compression, they'll still hold plenty of detail just fine.

so how big can you blow up a 300 dpi 8 x 10 piece and still have it look good?

So scan them at 300dpi and make 8x10 pieces with the jpg compression at 10?

Would it be better to save as TIFF?? I have my own website I can host the pieces on it, I don't need to be concerned about fitting them in email (I can zip the entire thing if needed for bulk download)

A poster scanned in in fractions by different people?

Well I say, BIG respect for the effort everyone ... but also good luck adding all the parts together so it's unnoticeable in the end-result. That will be a hard task I think.

@ markatisu: Why not try to flatten the poster when you scan it in? Put stacks of papersheets on the back of it to even it out - that should erase all the reflections, and the paperpiles (or use some bigger books if you want) will be easy to remove so the poster does not get damaged at all.

Scan in your parts at 500 or 600 dpi then reduce down to 300.
Please make sure that you allow for the 'litf' of the scanner. By this I mean to over lap the scans as the edges will be darker because the poster spills over the scanners edge.
Then resave as a 300dpi jpeg at a compression of 9 or 10.
Once I have it all, I can figure out how small we can make for folks to download.
I can give you the nessessary info if you wish to upload it to my server?

The 8 x 10 would just be a piece of the whole poster.

If file size doesn't concern you, then yeah, go with the uncompressed TIFF for the format.

And I just pulled the 8 x 10 size out of the air, I'd say do whatever your scanner can handle size wise.

Nope, all scanned by one person, markatisu, then put together by either me or Eamon.

Both Eamon and I know our way around photoshop I'd reckon... Not that hard to do really.

EDIT: Oh hi Eamon! Have at it already!!!

Well I just think as it's printed already, it's better to scan high to get all the details and then reduce down so it'll stay crisp.
Of course I just thought about descreening it.

markatisu: please just do one scan of the specs I gave you, let me or Nate have a look, we can see if we need to descreen it or if it even needs to mbe scanned that high.
    Is that cool?

Descreening is a method to get rid of the dots that come from printing is case ya didn't know!

    Ahh, alright now I understand.
Yep shouldn't be too hard to do with Photoshop then.
Sounds cool ... I am curious for the endresult.

Say --- If the size was too big (or the detail too fudgy when compressed) ... do you think I could pay you a CD-recordable + shipping/handling to get the file uncompressed on a CD-R?
I just want to avoid any loss of details when printed.

I will take the poster home tonight (its currently been at work since I was trying to use the overhead scanner) and try to get it done over the weekend

Also keep in mind (I posted this long ago) that my poster has no white edges, whoever owned it before cut them out for framing (you can still see parts of where they trimmed) so to get it accurate (if you want to frame it and/or make it match how it was when it was produced) you are going to have to add back in the white border.

Oi! "Last night" was quite some time ago, now!

When do you think you'll have the time, mate? And can someone please convince Baena to make this the primary poster/classic Artwork thread? That would be immensely appreciated..
