Terry Higuchi explained at the con that they couldn't glue the wing to the tricep/bicep piece because it was too small... so rather than tool a new piece (so her arms and cape couldn't function like Shadow Weaver's), they cut the cost and went with the non-attached version.

The drum holding the post for the wings on her shoulders is much larger than the SDCC/Power Con proto (the proto is the painted version; the producton sample is the test-shot, unpainted version).

This is NOT a 4H/Eric mistake or bad design.

This is Mattel cutting the cost and taking an easier route.

When I saw it, and when we all talked about it at Power Con, I KNEW it was going to be a pucky storm.

It's looking like an awkward mess. Oh boy...add her to the 2.0 pile.

This is how she is... I saw the sample on the table at the con.

That's exactly what they should have done when they realized they couldn't glue the wings to the tricep/bicep piece AND that they were using harder/stiffer/cheaper plastic for the wings.

They sould have moved the posts/drums on each shoulder to the deltoids on her back, and covered it with the back piece... mirroring the vintage toy.

This, in the display room during Power-Con...

Sorry, my bad. I'm going through the pictures I took at Power-Con, and there was this other one of She-Ra with similar styling which actually bears Emiliano's signature. I just went through this thread, I see it *is* Emiliano's. (Many more by Emiliano here -- I knew I'd seen this before! )

My apologies for the confusion. I still think this is the one ToyGuru was referring to in his panel, unless I totally misunderstood.

Again Mattel going the cheap route instead of making the figure perfect! I'm sure the Horsemen are thrilled with that decision!

Thanks! I took it from my iPhone, actually. This particular one I just put up on my very casual MOTU blog.

I'm hoping to upload all Power-Con pics to my Google/Blogger account by next weekend, so I can retain the resolution and picture sizes and at the very least, archive some very memorable images from the Con.

Yes, in that it's been 30 years since the originals, and you mean to tell me in 30 years, the design and engineering should inhibit the toy EVEN more than the original? Delusional.

I understand if you will be propping her up, arms out like the majority, but I am not buying a statue. I am buying an ACTION figure, one that all this articulation, rendered useless by bad compromises for the sake of budget. While that is the nature of business, the fact that they are using this bad idea not once, but TWICE is a huge facepalm.

The wings should have been alternating accessories like the heads have been, with one collapsed set and one outstretched. They gave it their best effort and it didn't work. They should have aped what they did with Shadow Weaver. It's technically the same function, and it looks much nicer AND functions better.

I can't fault Mattel on this one. They did the best with the cards they were dealt. Was it the sculpting, the original design? They really should have followed the lead of Shadow Weaver.

    Regarding the arms moving forward

It looks as if each wing segment is long enough that they could be tucked under her cape and that would maybe create a nice curvature(sp?)

or just tuck the longest one under the cape, then the middle one under longest, and the smallest under the middle and it would reduce her wings being parrallel to the ground when her arm is positioned forward.

Obviously this will depend on the softness of the wings and cape, but it is a potential workaround with a nice effect, imo.

I have nothing but faith between the cleverness of all of us at the .org, we will find a solution

I talked briefly to Terry Higuchi after the PowerCon. He explained to me that the wings are not anymore attached to the triceps as in mine design because there was not enough space to glue them. So they had to attach the drum of the wing to the shoulder instead (not the back, they had never been intended to be attached on the back, you can check the original idea here.
She should still have the full arm range of movements, what I'm not sure anymore is about how the wings will folllow the movement without being in an awkyard position.
I guess we will have to wait for the first samples to find out.

My solution to the triceps problem though, would have been mold the top wing piece and the arm as one piece, no glue required.

If that works, it could be awesome.

Would have been nice had Scott actually moved her arms with the full range of motion....

Fantastic, so when her arm is out forward, she can serve Sunny D to the other Masters on her tray....I mean "wings".

If it's still a prototype, it might have been too fragile to do that. Recall, TG broke a piece on one of the figures at SDCC trying to mess with it...

Couldn't or could? As a general rule, if we are getting ONE definitive version, tool her right the first time. I feel like we are paying for the first tool to budget out the second tool now...which I am oddly OK with, since I would pay any price for a perfectly functional Sorceress...but that's me. She's that important a character.

    She looks..."ready for take-off" alright.

I LOVE the guys at Mattel I swear I do know they are really nice guys, Scott and all...but their decisions like these leave me scratching my head. They came to a concensus on this AS A GROUP?! *facepalm*

Sometimes I wish they would see these things and ask the fans for feedback ahead of time. Screw saving money if you have to do her again. This is a COLLECTOR's line, and we shouldn't be seeing toys that will mandate a v2.0. Nobody will want a corrected Sorceress when other characters have yet to be made. What a black eye.

So...I am thinking multipack...fixed wings...all orange interior? LOL

The white Sorceress is a beautiful figure.

While looking at TOD Sorceress, bcrduke, Adam_prince of Eternia, and I were talking about what we liked and didn't and Terry Higuchi came up to us and was listening in. One of the things we talked about was what the staff would look like if molded out of clear plastic and then painted so the wing tips were clear like the Sorceress's wings. Making the wings of the staff blue like the ORB was also discussed. Terry seemed to be interested in this and started asking us about it. It'd be awesome if they ended up changing it, knowing they go the idea from us.

Not to drudge up a dead point... but I found 2 more pictures I took of the Sorceress test shot that give a clearer view of the way the wings attach.

So definitely at the back of the shoulder piece, with no attachment to the bicep to allow the wings to move up with the arms. And the peg/ drum is BIG.

    Those things are huge.

I'm glad I've reserved her a spot where she will be back against the wall. I don't think I want to be reminded that those colossi are attached to her shoulders.

I think they are yet to introduce "pinless" ankles for females. Everyone revealed so far has had visible pins.
