Mattel Q&A - Ask your questions here!

We are doing a Q&A with Scott Neitlich from Mattel, with the hopes of uncovering answers to some of your most popular questions.

    ***Important!***
    Collector's Line questions only!
Maybe one day in the future we can ask about the movie, but for now, there's nothing to report.

After about a week, we'll compile the questions and send them on to Scott.

Please check to see if your question has already been asked before posting in this thread!
And please keep it polite and friendly.

We reserve the option to delete questions or entire posts in this thread.
And you don't want that. Because if we do, Gwildor will come rob your house!

When it comes to doing PoP characters for the Classics line, will their designs resemble the old toys or their cartoon incarnations (as far as color schemes and costume designs, etc)? And how will these particular action figures be presented in the line? For example, cloth clothing vs. molded plastic, rooted hair vs. molded hair, accessories, points of articulation, etc).

1)- How far down the line do you see She-Ra coming, and will there likely be a 2 figure box set, with He-Man & She-Ra or Prince Adam & Princess Adora?

2)- Are you trying to work on a way to get Shadow Weaver to the fans at some point, maybe as an exclusive of sorts?

3)- When will fans be able to see the new variant of King Grayskull you have recently commented upon?

4)- Will She-Ra come with a fold out box version of the Crystal Catle similar to King Grayskull. if there are voice effects, would they be recorded a recording of Melendy britt's voice?

5)- Will She-Ra's sword be the same as He-Man's, bar the stone?

6)-Is the sword we saw with the 2007 He-Man prototype at SDCC the version that he will be packaged with?

    classic vehicles, creatures and playsets...

...will they be in the line too, and if so will Castle Grayskull be bigger than its predesessors so that it's finally in scale with the figs like in the cartoons?

(maybe a built-a -castle thing like marvel legends does with it's giant figs?)

    cheers!

    • How many figures will be in each wave, and how many chase-variants per wave?

    • Will the cardbacks feature similar character pictures on top as on the vintage cards?

    • Will you add biographies to the figures? If yes, will those focus on an existing canon, or merge/add (to) previous canons like the new Hordak bio (from the 200x DVD Vol.2) did?

    • Any new infos about the possibility of minicomics and/or "Collect and Connect" toys to the line?

    • In the 200x line, you had some problems with names, that f.e. forced you to change Fisto into Battle Fist. Can this be a problem in the retro line, as well?

    • Are there any plans to offer King Grayskull to those who can't attend SDCC? Fans outside the US surely would appreciate the chance to purchase the figure as well.

    • What about doing a poll where He-Fans and collectors can vote for a chase variant, or even a character in an upcoming wave?

    • Is there a possibility of Mattel somewhat "continuing" NECAs mini-statue line in reduced form (like offering only one-two stactions per year as Exclusives)?

    1. Can you reveal all the characters in the 1st Wave?

    2. Will the She-Ra figures have a "Princess of Power" sub-heading?

With the line being made with collectors in mind, will there be a way we can contact Mattel to let them know what we want? I know Mattel checks things out here every now and then but there should be a better way to keep in contact with them.

As a New Adventures Fan I must thank you for considering them as part of the line. Any chance you know what characters from that series may potentially get a second chance at being made? I know He-Man and Skeletor would be a given but there a plenty of characters from that series people are fond of like Optikk,Slushead and few others.

And I want a King Grayskull figure but how can I get one since I have no way to go to SDCC?

How are European/overseas fans supposed to get hold of chase figures and especially of the chase conexclusive without having to pay outrageous prices on ebay? Will there be a collector's club?
    Awesome sticker included!

    • How long do we have wait between each wave's release?
    • Will figures have their signature "tag-line" attached? ("Evil Lord of Destruction", "Most Powerful Man in the Universe", "Warrior Goddess")
    • Any chance of exclusive-versions of a figure, that might have a specially made extra in the package, e.g a mini-comic?

    Q&A's are wonderful...

    1. What are your projections for overseas production and shipping? Do you intend to have as widespread a distribution as in North America? Or do you simply intend to aim for some of the possibly bigger European markets for MotU, Germany and Italy?

    2. If there is no intended European distribution, do you foresee an international online store and collectors club?

    3. With the recent mention of the Horde Prime on the Mike Young animated MotU DVD's volume 2, a great deal of questions have arisen regarding the status of not only that character, but many others from the Filmation-cartoon. Is Horde Prime, and possibly others, that were thought to no longer be available because of rights-issues, becoming available in the near future after all?

    4. Mini-comics are no doubt too expensive to include with the figures, but are there any other plans to include something extra that truly explains and describes who the characters are, perhaps a small poster doubling as a micro-comic describing the characters and their origins on the back?

Will the packaging for the new "Classics" line figures feature fantasy illustrations on the back of the cards (in a similar fashion to the vintage line)?

Can we ditch the asterix logo and get the old school cross as seen on some 2002 he-man, the full size statue and the classic colours staction? the asterix is NEARLY universally hated.

    is the armour removable?
the voice from the box, is it going to be Cam Clarke? if so did he redo the lines or are they clips taken from the show?

how tall is the figure? is he going to be in scale? (the king grayskull character wasa BIG dude.)

Any chance the first wave will be on display at SDCC?

Will there be additional merchandise to accompany the Classics line?

    1) When the release date for the toys was announced as Fall 2008, any idea if this will be in time for when the stores do their Christmas toy setups(Walmart, Zellers, etc..)

    2) Will there be a website dedicated to the Classics line like the old www.mastersoftheuniverse.com site?

    3) Any chance of doing a updated version of the old glow-in-the-dark Grayskull ring from the 80s line to include with one of the figures or as a mail-away thing?

    4) Are there any Awesome Stickers included?

    Drewsky...

1)Will we see He-Man's logo ever look like it did on the MYP show vs the 2002toys? I love the H logo, but not the * so much

2)As far as waves go, will you be sticking to one era a wave or will it be mix and match(ie, we getting all NA one wave, or would Flogg be right next to He-Ro and Faceless One?)

It appears that King Grayskull has ball-jointed hips. Is this going to be the standard articulation or will you be using the (imho, better) hip articulation found in the DC Universe 6" line?
