Who here does NOT want figure variants?

***This is a thread for showing support of no variants. Not to argue for or against. - JVS3***

I figured this is a topic that should be addressed since it would affect the release schedule of MOTU Classics, but who here does NOT want variant figures released of He-Man, Skeletor, etc?

    My opinion on the matter is this;

At this point, we are only getting one figure a month until things hopefully pick up. Why would we want to get a different version of He-Man or Skeletor when we could instead be getting a figure yet to be released?

Well, I don't want any variants of He-Man or Skeletor to be sure, but if we don't get variants, here's hoping that the Hordak they market is a homage to Hurricane Hordak. He was more cartoon accurate. To paraphrase an old Transformers fan adage for my thoughts on Hordak..."TEK NOT WIZERD!"
People who say certain characters should never be remade is stupid. Throw rocks at them.

I support Filmation characters for MOTUC! Let Mattel know it's worth their while to get the rights to those characters!

If they have a variant, they should sell it alongside the standard figure during the same month. If it's a minor difference, then they should randomly pack it in to customers, but if its a major difference they should make a 50:50 production run and let you choose which one you want (or both).

In addition to this, and I've suggested this in another thread, they should allow you to choose whether you want only the standard version, or if you want a shot at a random chase. This way if all you want is the standard figure (like I do with King Grayskull), you're guaranteed to get it. This also increases the chances (slightly) of someone who wants the chase to get it.

Finally, they should have a subscription service to guarantee that you will get a figure before it sells out, and they should give you the option of whether you want them to hold onto your figures until there is enough to save on shipping.

it depends on what you mean by "variant". do you mean something like the dreaded spin/smash blade, a re-release of an existing character only with different armor and weapons? or do you mean redecos that may be released at the same time as the original figure? same mold, same accesories, just a different, harder to obtain color scheme (i.e. king grayskull)?

if it's the former, i'm against. definitely
if it's the latter, i'm indifferent. uh, definitely?

Repaints like Spin blade He-man or Skeletor, then no.

Variants like Battle Armor He-man, Thunder punch He-man, or Terror Claws Skeletor, then yes. I want those.

As some have said already, I want them, but in LIMITED form and readily available.

I would absolutely buy 2 figures in one month if, for example, they released a "Wonder Bread/Savage" He-Man ALONG SIDE regular He-Man, or a green-skinned Teela/Goddess figure, along-side the regular Teela/Goddess figure.

Now, if it were repaints like Pink themed Sorceress (from a few of the mini-comics)... that's fine for random pack-ins... but then again, maybe not... I'd probably want both of those too...

Another example: Evil-Lyn --- EVERYONE is going to want both MYP skin-toned and Classic yellow skin-toned Evil Lyn. SO we should be able to order them both.

I DO want the following, but not before all the other characters are released, unless they are exclusives (like a BA He-Man, BA Skeletor 2-pack as a Toyfair Magazine mail-away exclusive??)

    Battle Armor He-Man & Skeletor
    Thunder Punch He-Man
    Flying Fists He-Man
    Snake Armor He-Man
    Dragon Blaster Skeletor
    Terror Claws Skeletor
    Laser Light Skeletor
    NA He-Man
    NA Skeletor
    Movie Skeletor
    Hurrican Hordak
    Buzz Saw Hordak
    Scratchin Sound Catra
    Starburst She-Ra

BUT, since we aren't getting action features, this list is more realistic:

Flying Fists He-Man (without the flying fists)
    Snake Armor He-Man
Terror Claws Skeletor (without the claw swinging action)
    NA He-Man
    NA Skeletor
    Movie Skeletor
Hurricane Hordak (without the spin feature - just snap on attachments)
    Starburst She-Ra

I'm don't really mind if they choose to do them, I don't want any personally, but to each his/her own.

I would only want variants of figures that were actually in the cartoons or comics(i.e. Ice Armor Heman). I would only buy any variant if the line ever hits retail stores. I just want all the regulars first!

For the reasons a lot of people have cited: NO!

If I order He-Man, I want He-Man, not He-Man with brown hair or an inverted color scheme. At the same time, I do not want new characters that are just repaints to be sold as variants of other figures. I do not want to order 2 He-Man figures in the hopes of getting on He-Man and one Faker, or one Beastman and one Mossman.

To each character, a seperate release. To each color variation, a seperate release or an exclusive to another website.

This October, I expect to order one (1) He-Man action figure, and receive one (1) He-Man action figure... the exact same thing that every single other fan who orders one (1) He-Man action figure gets.

I say no chase variants either. If Mattel has to offer them then give the chance to buy them alongside the regular release, No random pack ins!!!! Since I am a completist I'd end up having to go to eay to pick up the chases and then I'd be in the same boat as before and mattel would not see any increased patronage from me.

I think variants are fine if they are not too limited, take the place of another figure, and not random.

It's a hard thing to answer: yes and no.

Yes I would like variants, but NO to chase figures, etc. I want what Mattel has with DCUC. Here's an example:

They made a "new" costume Superman figure in red and also in blue, but they were made in equal amounts so the regular and variant are made 50/50.

That's what I want...and the option to buy each so I don't end up with a Wonderbread He-Man if I want a regular one (althought I'd want both).

So, for that month (month #1) you could buy He-Man and Wonderbread/Savage He-Man. Variants not taking the place of a regular character.

I don't mind variants as long as they don't take the place of a regular figure. 1 figure a month wait is bad enough. as long as they produce a regular figure for the month it's fine by me.

No Variants, chase figures, or repaints!!! Keep it at 1 new character per month, that`s the way it should be. If they are going to do variants of He Man and Sketetor, wait till all the other characters have been released first, that way we have the choice to buy or not and don`t miss a certain month`s release.

No senseless figure variants. I don't mind them if they make sense.

    Example of a good variant:
    Standard Figure: Classic He-Man
    Variant Figure: Snake Armor He-Man

    Example of a bad variant:
    Standard Figure: Classic Skeletor
    Variant Figure: "Disco" Skeletor

No chase, no variants , no re-paint. That's a waste of time and money. Make one different figure every month and you will succeed.

In all honesty, if it were up to me, I’d give all variants and chase figures – outside of special premiums and exclusives – the old He-Man He-Ave Ho.

Now, keep in mind, I said outside of premiums. There is no reason why they can’t be marketed as special incentives to those who join a collector’s club or subscription service. There’s no reason they can’t be offered as exclusives in some way or the other. But I don’t want them mixed in with the standard products and throwing things off. And absolutely never do I want to wonder if I’ve got one coming in the mail in place of the figure I want/payed for.

    In this line, I want:

No randomly packed variants or chases
No ridiculously painted variants (e.g. bling-bling skeletor)
