Ryan Reynolds has great deadpan comic timing, but I always go back & forth with him; I'm either laughing at him or wanting to punch him in the face. I'll wait to see him before I make a judgement. As much as I love Hal Jordon, the casting could have been a lot worse.

Blake Lively is the typical crappy Hollywood casting(remember Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane?). They pick a person with limited talent just because they're young and/or are related to a popular TV show. Besides her lack of talent, she's too young & doesn't look the part.

After being less than happy with their choice of director(I'm not a big Casino Royale fan), writers(the writers have talent, but they're all known for family TV dramas), lead, and love interest, I LOVE that Peter Sarsgaard has been cast as Hector Hammond! He's a great actor but not so famous that he'll take you out of the movie(like Reynolds imho). I also love that they might possibly just introduce Sinestro in this movie but leave him as the villain for a sequel like what they did with the Joker in Batman Begins!

Blake Lively as Carol Ferris? This just gets worse and worse.

If they'd cast Nathan Fillion, what happened with Iron Man would have happened with Green Lantern.

While I don't think Fillion is as great an actor as Robert Downey Jr, he's a lot better & more likable than Reynolds. It'll kill me if this movie tanks. I hate Iron Man but I loved his movie. Green Lantern on the other hand is one of my favorite superheroes.

I don't see how this movie can NOT tank. It has train wreck written all over it.

Might as well skip this and hope work gets underway on Flash or Wonder Woman......

This casting is the complete reason this movie will do poorly. Look at how Thor is shaping up. After Iron Man 2, Thor has me the most excited! Just look at the freakin' cast list!

You may hate Ryan Reynolds, but I think I hate his butterfaced wife just as much. With her, Mickey Rourke, and my general dislike for the character, I'm not too eager to see Iron Man 2. I'll also be shocked if Thor ends up being any good. It's either going to look like a period piece with magic or it'll look so cheesy, I won't be able to take it seriously. As much as I love superheroes, some of them will end up losing so much in the translation, they shouldn't get movies in the first place(like Aquaman for instance).

I don't personally dislike Reynolds, I just don't think he is the right person for the role. Blake Lively I have only seen in bits and pieces, I believe I skipped most of her story in Traveling Pants so I could definitely pass on her.

I am not sure what they are thinking in the casting of Hal though, didn't a few years ago they wanted to go with Jack Black, or was it just a bad rumour? It seems with both they are trying to capture younger viewers, instead of letting the movie pull in like it should.

On Thor I have always said that was going to be a problem in translating to film, and I love the character.

I am right now to the point that I am getting tired of seeing Ryan Reynolds in everything. For one who supposed to be a huge comic book fan. He certainly didn't chime up when they messed up Deadpool. I still would have liked to see Ben Browder as Hal.

Personally, when a celebrity says they're a comic fan, I tend not to believe them. They're often either pandering to the "geeks" or trying to sell a product. Giving Reynolds the benefit of the doubt, maybe he didn't know what they were going to do to Deadpool at the end of the movie(that wasn't him fighting Wolverine, it was some stunt guy). Maybe he was such a huge fan, he didn't even bother to read the script. Or maybe he was paid enough that he just didn't care. I'm not a big Deadpool fan in the first place, but I feel Marvel is currently doing more harm to their characters in comic form than Wolverine:Origins ever did to them.

I remember reading somewhere, the ending was done after he had done his job type of thing. Supposedly he has talked about doing a real deadpool movie kind of ignoring that stuff, but not sure where I read that or anything.

But then there is the issue of what exactly is a fan, and does your's and his definitions line up(but closes can of worms). I know many Superman fan's who couldn't tell you anything more about him then basic mythos, same with Spider-man and Batman.

I am not digging the casting of Blake Lively as Carol Ferris. She's like 11 years younger than Ryan Reynolds when their characters are supposed to be roughly the same age. This has Katie Holmes/Kate Bosworth/Jessica Alba style casting written all over it.

I would have liked to have seen Nathan Fillion as Hal, but I've got nothing against Reynolds (having not seen a lot of his work besides his solidly subversive performance Adventureland). I mean, it's not like they cast Jim Caviezel as Hal Jordan (that would not have worked out at all, especially not when Jim looks like Superman).
It's great being Lord of the Thundercats - especially hanging out with Cheetara - but the one draw back is that He-Man can still beat me up.

    Hey Everyone,

I am also hoping that this movie works out as well. I really want DC to have a number of big movie franchises outside of both "Batman" and "Superman". I really want to see as many DC Movies as we currently see for Marvel properties.

    Take Care,
    Darren
Mattel please, buy the He-Man and She-Ra cartoons from Entertainment Rights. If you owned Both Filmation related "MotU" cartoons, plus "NA" and "MYP" cartoons, you would be able to distribute any or all 4 cartoons to Television in the lead up to another relaunch or a live action movie. Plus, you could include Filmation and "NA" animated characters in "MotU:C"!

    Long Live 'MOTU'!

I'm taking a wait and see attitude here. I do know a lot of effort and a lot is riding on this movie, I have hope it will be decent.

YOu have to remember if this movie does well, it will open the doors for Flash, Wonder Woman, and minor DC heroes. Warner Bros only thinks of Batman at this point and there's only 1 more movie with Nolan and Bale. After that movie, it's rebooot time. I higly doubt they will be able to get Christian Bale back.

Warner Bros wants to do a Superman reboot. Returns was badly received, but it made money. It wasn't a bomb and there was a sense of "This movie wasn't good, but we still want Superman." Superman is a very appealing character, especially overseas.
Of course, the problem is the copyright issues going on with Superman. That's not going to be settled anytime soon.

There's a lot riding on this and hopefully it will be decent.
We survived the long night.... MOTU Forever!

Tricia Helfer would have been a terrific Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire; it's really a shame she's considered a TV actor for niche shows while less talented starlettes get big movie roles.

Anyone else loving Mark Strong as Sinestro? Yeah, he's become Hollywood's go-to villain actor of late, but at least he's a good match for the character.

I'm okay with Reynolds as GL, though his personality isn't Hal to me. I'd have said James Marsden was closer. But I'll wait and see what we get. I'm trusting them not to make any of the mistakes that were made in Superman Returns (though I don't hate that movie, it had obvious faults), but the Bosworth-ish casting isn't a good start.

Funny you should mention Tricia Helfer - she voiced Boodikka in the Green Lantern First Flight DVD.

Elsewhere in Green Lantern land, Nolan North will be voicing Hal Jordan/GL for the upcoming DVD "Justice League: Crisis on 2 Earths". Ironically, North & Reynolds both played Deadpool prior to being cast as Hal (North voiced Deadpool in Hulk Vs. and is slated to reprise the role for season 2 of Wolverine & the X-Men).

I'll reserve judgment until I see a full shot not obstructed by angle and light. But I will say of what I do see, the mask isn't that great.

Looks like they went with the green gloves... bastiches!

I think they went a bit too far over the top with "punching up" the detail on the costume, but I've read interviews talking about their concept for the GL uniforms, so it's pretty similar to what I expected them to do with it.

So, is this the cover that's supposed to be on news-stands tomorrow? If so, I'll have to pick-up a copy tomorrow morning. May have to renew my subscription so I can get any future GL-heavy issues with no trouble.

That uniform looks awful. This would have been better, and it's from the MK vs DC game.

I don't think they went over the top. again. (my opinion) To take the concept "literally" (as much as you can with a comic) the costumes that the lanterns use should look other worldly, should make you scrunch your eye brows thinking, "really? they are using that????"

I am not saying that the original designers "were not" creative, but in a way I am saying they were not really thinking that far outside of the box.

original creator: tights, check, new color, check, done and done.....

does anyone get where I am coming from?

from a costume standpoint (designers) didnt they have this problem with spidey and supes? that they wanted very small details, so that they look a bit more textured, cause of how it looks on film? I dont know.

I just looked at the picture again, it almost looks like they are going with the angle that the ring "provides" the costume.... when wearing the ring.... i mean, the costume is crazy detailed and tight....

again, just observing, don't really know if i like it or not yet.

Yes, the concept here is that the ring creates the costume as a very complex ring construct, and the pulsing, glowing, shifting "lines" of energy are there to drive that point home and to add to the extraterrestrial look of the costume. I like the concept, I'm just not certain this was the absolute best way to realize that concept.

Anyway, here's a VERY high-res version of the cover... this thing is GINORMOUS, so take that into account BEFORE you click on the thumbnail image!

By looking at the mask and the neck, it's obvious that this is NOT a final still from the movie, but rather a "rush job" done up in Photoshop in a hurry. The final product on screen should look better. Now if we could just beat enough sense into the producers to get them to use the white gloves...
