Looks more like a test shot, not an actual prototype.
The 4H never let the original casts slide out of the studio.

Weird. That's a lot of money for a test shot.

Prototype ... testshot ... what's the difference, right?

That King Grayskull was 99.9999999999999% chance just a testshot.

Yeah, especially if you look at that Gorilla Grood, that's definitely a test shot.
It's unfair to call them prototype and saying they are unique pieces (most likely there are lots of them)

It would have been nice to have the pin-together power sword! I wonder if the buyer new the difference between a test shot and prototype (other than the fact that it is basically in a finished state, save the paint). I wouldn't know myself . So maybe the buyer thought he was getting a proto?

Is a test shot figure basically made from the final molds?

Some sorry sap got took there I would say.
That is no prototype, nor to I believe it's a test shot, not when the bronze is underneath that black paint!

It is indeed a Test Shot. Which is in reality a prototype. It came before the production piece so it can be deemed a prototype. Sure its not a hard copy, or a wax sculpt... but still a form of prototype.

Emiliano is mos def right though that it is not fully unique. 1000's of test shots could have been run off. Who knows how many actually were though, or how many survived. As for this test shot I know there is at least two that look like this that survived.

So is it worth $355? Maybe to that buyer. But you have to wonder how this piece that isn't truly unique reached that much when I recently got a Wax Cast for an un-produced vintage figure head for only $100.

Edit: Sorry meant wax cast not sculpt haha.

Looking at the bigger pics... Seems odd to me.

I wouldn't call it a prototype, it MIGHT be a test shot.

But it's nothing more than a different colored King Grayskull, it's even sporting the "wig" problem . I know prices are personal, but I would NEVER pay such an amount for that.

Now for your Teela wax cast? That's freakin' cool man!

Wow. A black spray painted King Grayskull. I think I'll go spray paint all my old MOTU toys and sell them as prototypes on Ebay. In a week I'll be a millionaire!

Maybe this is legit, but if all it is is a Grayskull painted black for test shots, it shouldn't be called a prototype. A prototype is the figure that is made before it hits the assembly line. This is clearly a finished product this is spray painted black.

Essentially it's not the finished product. It's a test shot run off in a bronze color and spayed black. The finished product is pretty different.

    He looks great...
my only nitpick/concern are the wings... I imagine that- since they only seem to be held on at the wrist- that over time they are going to succumb to gravity and sort of "float" away and droop off the shoulders and not quite stay up as they should.
Other than that though, I'm getting excited to have this one at home and out of the package!

Yeah, I thought that too, but it looks like they should be pretty hard plastic, so they should do just fine. But if they are softer, then I can really see them dropping down like you say.

Thanks for the pics! I just realized that since the wings are removable you should be able to reverse them and have them jut out past his arms 200X-style.
