RIPD = MIB with Dead People.

Can't they please try to get a little original?

Not a terrible actor, just terribly overexposed.

I did enjoy John Carter. Perhaps the Lone Ranger isn't a bad movie, but Johnny Depp in it has totally turned me off from wanting to ever see it.

I'm also hoping that RIPD (Rest in Peace Department) flops as it looks like a horrible movie (to me) as well.

Exactly my assessment when I saw the trailer!

However.... I laughed most of the way through the trailer, and the first MIB was awesome. I have high hopes for this one!!!

I can understand thinking Johnny Depp is overrated. I USED to like him a lot. Back in the day he was awesome in EVERYTHING he did. I went to see a show just knowing he was in it... However he used up all that goodwill with a string of Blah movies. As a MASSIVE fan Dark Shadows, I was VERY disappointed in what they did with that show... Alice in wonderland? Pirates 3&4... There was a time when Depp ACTED. Look at Edward Scissorhands. He was all KINDS of make-upped up and props all over him..... but it was still his ACTING that made that a great movie.

Now it feels like he gets dressed up and lets the makeup do the acting for him...

However, I don't understand the desire to see a movie flop based on an actor being in it? Or a movie flopping because I have no interest in it... If I don't want to see it, I don't see it.

UNLESS there is a moral perogative that states I want a fad to DIE... like the raunchy Hangover/Heat type movies... I can skip them without hoping they flop.

The more things flop.... the LESS original ideas we're going to see. They're only going to spend their money making movies they think will be success. RIPD is a remake of MiB. Sure... (even though I'm looking forward to it ) but, Lone Ranger hasn't been seen since 1981... and that wasn't a great success either.

I'd prefer if things like THIS get made regardless of what funny hat JD wears than yet another torture porn/home invasion/crazy hillbilly horror movie or 'odd couple' buddy cop movie. We're going to get fewer NEW(er) characters on the screen... and more Spiderman/batman/wolverine remakes.

Heck I heard a rumor that they are looking to remake Blade now that Marvel got the rights back... with a stable the size that marvel has.... and 3 movies and a failed tv series I would MUCH rather have ANYONE else hit the screen than a 'remake' of Blade...

And nowadays you can't go by a critic review anymore. Some of my favorite movies are a critics worst nightmare. I go see a movie if I like the source material in the preview. If a personal only goes by reviews then they will miss out on a lot of great films.

I think the AV Club puts out some pretty respectable movie reviews.

I can understand why my wanting movies to flop to be a bit harsh. It's true, it doesn't really affect me. However, selfishly, there is every reason for me to want to see things I like (so that more things I might like will get made) to succeed, and things I don't like (so that fewer of these things are made) flop.
