    Big Trouble in Little China.

Terrific and underrated cult 1986 fantasy-action-comedy from John Carpenter with Kurt Russell and pre-Sex and The City's Kim Cattral with Blade Runner's James Hong. Loved this since i saw it on HBO when i was 6 in 1988!

Jack Burton is my favorite Kurt Russell character ever, even more than Snake Plissken. He absolutely nailed the cockiness with the coolness, and yet he never took the character too seriously.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen the film. Thunder did look like a GPK in that scene, and I always thought Lightning was the inspiration for Raiden on MK.

And one day I WILL cut a bottle in half with a butcher knife...

I have not seen this in ages, but I loved this film, it was on TV all the time back then. This is for sure in my list of things I want to watch again.

When I first saw that game I though it was the same character from the film (I couldn't remember character's name in the film).

He was just called Lightning. The other two members of the Three Storms were Thunder and Rain.

Great movie! I watch it every time it comes on - even though my wife thinks it cheesy.

I did. This was one of my favorite movies too! My Dad was at the Air Force burn center in Ft. Sam Houston, TX in '88 and I spent alot of time there, and HBO was always playing this movie and I watched it almost every day! The new DVD is great. Love Russell and Carpenter's commentary.

    I have this movie memorized.

Also, the DVD commentary by Carpenter and Russel is single-handedly the BEST commentary for a film EVER!!

Seriously, here are two guys who really respect each other on both a work-based and personal level - and they both have so much intimate knowledge of the movie itself, characters and cast, props, sets and more. Not to mention that they obviously had a real blast just making the commentary!

I agree this is one of the best movies to ever come out. I pretty much laugh from begining to end.

One of my favorite movies as a kid.

I watched it about a year ago, and honestly, I didn't age that badly. It was still fun, and in many ways superior to all the new big budget Asian super kung fu flicks of today.

I loved the 3 storms. The guy with the lightning was awesome. I wish the movie could be remade so they could shine again and not be dispatched so easily. I know, I know, everyone is sick of remakes but this movie could be amazing if rehashed and done properly.

    Funniest cult movie ever filmed.
Jack rules. He rules. He really rules.

The DVD special edition sucks in terms of picture quality. We need a major restoration for this.

I watch this flick every month. Bought it as soon as I saw it on the shelf. I also love the Carpenter/Russel commentary. The banter between them is always awesome. Especially because Kurt loves the characters and the movie so much, it's lots of fun hearing him talk about it. Whenever his character does something funny he bursts out laughing.

A sequel could be great, but I'd rather see the franchaise rebooted first. I wonder who could handle it the best?

If they do a reboot, my vote to play ol' Jack Burton goes to Josh Holloway (Sawyer) from LOST.

Big Trouble in Little China questions

    1- "What the hell!"

Is that something Jack keeps saying throughout the movie? I'm not English, so I don't know. What does that mean?
In the Italian dubbing, the line was turned into: "Stop it now".
Isn't the word "HELL" very much used by almost everyone in the movie? LOL. I know the other character in the movie that says that line is the Uncle: "What the hell is Gracie Law doing here".

2- During the "big battle", I remember that Jack punches the Chinese Wildman or maybe just pushes him back and he falls on the ground... am I wrong about this? Or maybe was it Gracie to do so?

3- In the Italian dubbed version, when Jack is driving the PCE truck, trying to rescue Miao Yin along with Wang, someone drives across his path and he yells: "********!" (In Italian). Is that an added dialogue from the Italian dubbers?

4- Another extra-dialogue from the Italian dubbing should be this: After Lo Pan does his first speech to Jack (both on the wheelchairs, LOL), Jack yells: "Hey come here, stop that spider" (meant as the CAR, not the insect - it's a way to joke upon his wheelchair). Any confirmation?

    Thank you!

    1) What the hell is a common expression here in the States. It's a catch all phrase for a confusing situation or when you are surprised by something and don't understand it. Hell is the place where Satan (Lucifer), his demons and the damned dwell or in other words any Wal-Mart.

    2) Actually Gracie kicks (or knees) the Chinese Wildman in the groin from behind and Jack just pushes him over as they get into the elevator.

    3) It must be. Whenever the car cuts off Jack, Jack just blows the truck horn and yells, "Oh, come on! What the hell?" To my recollection the driver of the car doesn't say anything.

    4) Are you talking about the part where Jack and Wang are in wheelchairs in the dungeon room or when they are in Lo Pan's chamber room and Lo Pan gets angry at Jack's and Wang's friends at the front desk? But Jack just says "Hey get back here." Whereby Wang asks "Where is Miao Yin?" And Lo Pan answers "Safe. Safer with me than anyplace on Earth."
