The biggest MOTU purchase of my life!

I gave up and did it.
MOTU original artwork is very hard to find and super expensive, but somehow, being an artist myself, i consider it the ultimate MOTU collectible.

I chose to buy something really special, which many of you will probably find a little weird.

in 1983/84, Italian artist Claudio Mazzoli worked with Landmark president and co-founder Gary Goddard,to create a series of concept painting for the upcoming MOTU live action movie, which would have eventually come out in 1987 and was directed by Gary Goddard himself.

Mazzoli's job was to visualize the script written by David Odell and he did an awesome job.
While he just did only what is today called concept exploration, some of his concepts ended up in the movie, like the big holospehere sequence, even if scaled down.
Basically none of his design have been used, but his concept are very faithful to the source material. Especially the piece I fell in love with (after the holosphere that I couldn't afford): an incredible two pieces - 3 meter wide - 1 meter tall - Castle Grayskull.

It has been finally delivered to my home today along with a few relatively smaller pieces, with his He-Man and Skeletor concepts!

Here are a few pics, but che out my forum album for more!
(And sorry for the pics bad quality, I just had to rush and share this with all my fellow .orgers!)

    Love the Grayskull stuff, fantastic.

That He-Man render is painful to glance at though. I am glad he didn't end up looking like that in the film. Although sadly it looks like that is where they got the incorrect sword design from.

Yeah, He-Man isn't the best one, it's pretty weak actually
But, you know, I HAD to have He-Man and Skeletor

    Wow...

The Grayskull throne room looks fantastic, I would have loved to see that on the big screen. Mazzoli's Skeletor is great as well - it's a shame we never got to see it translated to the movie itself.

That is totally awesome! Congrats Emiliano! I sorta liked the He-Man design until I clicked on it and saw it bigger. Everything else looks so nice why couldn't the movie have had things looking like that?

Congrats Emiliano!! I´m speechless, this is truly amazing. Weird how Skeleto´s feet look like Nightcrawler´s from the X-Men.

I totally appreciate art finds like this being into comic books like I am. You've got yourself a treasure Emiliano, congrats.

Since he didn't appear like that in the movie, I wonder if your Skeletor is fair game for a figure for Classics?

What did you end up doing with these pieces? Are they displayed in your home or stored away? I swear I look at the first two shots on a daily basis. These still amaze me.

    Grayskull's superb.

Grayskull throne room features a nice homage to Eternia playset.

    That He-man's too skinny...

    Not sure about Skeletor...

Does anyone here know where are those original painting posters by William George ? Is it in Mattel archives ?
