In case you missed the messages from the other two moderators, the "flesh" debate in this topic is OVER. It's an interesting topic worthy of a Tar Swamp discussion if someone wants to start one there. This thread is about the Mekaneck action figure.

Even though I am concerned that Mekaneck will not have vac-metal goggles, I still think that the odds of them being vac-metal are pretty good since Thunder Punch He-Man and Hurricane Hordak have it on their accessories. Oh and I forgot about Spikor... I think they went vac-metal on his trident.

Yeah, but I just don't think that's a good excuse. Why make a move that decreases the quality of your product if it's no extra work or cost to you? Unless it does come down to cost and Mattel agrees that they won't sell enough extras to cover the increased cost, then it would make sense. I'm willing to give Mattel the benefit of the doubt on this one, but I am still a little bummed out about it.

Maybe the marketing strategy behind Mekaneck was to have the 2 neck pieces to display 2 or 3 different Mekanecks with the different length necks or no extension at all. As always the name of the game is to make it so we buy more than one figure so we could display each one differently. Like Kobra Khan, one with regular head, the other with Kobra Attack head.

And honestly, for the most part, I don't have a problem with that. Nobody HAS to buy two figures; I didn't have to buy two Duncans to have young Duncan and modern day Duncan, but I was happy I had the opportunity to. It's a no lose situation, really; you don't have to buy multiples just to complete your collection (like variant figures), but you can expand your set to the alternate looks if you want. On Mattel's side, it means more sales. Everybody wins.

I agree... The big question on everyones mind is why didn't they make Mekaneck's neck pieces work together? ... I'm sure it was considered at some point during his production processs, but they went with the "use one or the other, not both" for whatever reason. It would be nice to figure out a way to give fans a 12" neck piece in the future though, since fans demand it.

I don't understand how the neck pieces don't work together? I mean the 2" piece attaches onto the figure and the head on top. The 5" piece connects to the figure and the head on top. What has Mattel done to make it so that the 1 neck piece can connect to the figure body no problem but not the other neck piece?

This is actually a very good question. I'm not sure either except for that "the guru" had said that the neck pieces will not connect together. Let's see... Mekaneck more than likely has a regular male head socket and neck like all the other figures. If you were to use NO neck pieces and just attatch the head to the body, The head movement would be like all the other figures. Now.. if you look at the figure closely with the neck piece, you will se that there is an extra blue piece at the base of the neck piece, it probably adds stability to the neck piece when attatched to the body. if both neck pieces have this blue thing on the bottom... then it would not be possible to connect both neck pieces together --- or maybe you can but it would look ridiculous because of the blue thing ending up in the middle.

On the other hand, maybe the blue thing is a seperate piece and you will need it to connect the neck pieces, but not for the head only.
At any rate... I think that blue thing on the bottom has something to do with it.

Yeah, with the bigger extension he can already look Tytus in the eye. Why ask for more? He's going to have issues maintaining balance as it is, unless they give him ratchet hips or something.

    According to AFI:

    The (Meka)-Neck-ed Truth
from Action Figure Insider - Best Toy News on the Web! by JuliusMarx

Right around the time of Comic Con the question was raised a few places asking if the 2 neck insert pieces from the MOTUC Mekaneck could be used together to make one large neck piece. The answer back from Mattel was a sort of vague “that’s not really how they were designed to work”.
Now I have the figure in-hand and I can tell you that yes, it is possible and very easy to do. Yes there will be a spare band at the connection point. It’s up to the individual collector to decide if that bothers them or not.

Might be hard to flesh out how to make a super tall Mekaneck.

So we're all going to flood accessory pack wishlists again with requests for Mekaneck neck extensions, right?

Huh...the short neck piece is wider/thicker than the long neck piece. That's odd. It's still cool they can attach though.
