King Hiss (Hsss) Discussion in MOTUC

As a kid, the 80's King Hiss was definately one of my favorite figures, along with Two-Badd because they were unique. The thing I loved most was that he looked creepy as he// and he transformed into snakes. Who wouldn't love that! With the new MOTUC line, he's gonna be tricky to create. Since action features are gone and his was to turn into snakes, how could they update him in the MOTUC style?

For starters, I definitely think he should be based on the classic figure, which is ultra creepy looking. The one from the last toy line wasn't good.

They'll probably give him a separate upper snake body that snaps on.

First off, I havent seen much of the 200x version and do not own it. To my understanding alot of people liked the 80s version better.

I wouldnt mind a "double" figure type of thing.
    2 ways to do it--
Make him in his human form and make him in snake form. Two different figs.
    or
Make from the torso up be removeable and include a 2nd snake torso.

Either way will cost quite a bit since it pretty much a double figure.
This could fall under a "bonus" figure for whatever month if they wanted to do that.

Give him a retooled shield and staff. Same as the first just a little revamped.
    Like the 200x versions.

Personally I would like the 2 different figures. 1 Human form and 1 Snake Form.

Yeah thats what I was thinking too. 2 separate figures so that the snake form can really stand out. Having 2 torso's could work too, I like that idea. I own the 200X King Hsss figure and I was kinda dissapointed at the snake form sculpt. My favorite, even tho it's kinda old school, is the King Hiss of the 80's!

My thoughts exactly. The original figure was creepy with that fake grin of his! The new one was ok, the expression on his face is just too comical for me though.

On a side note…with King Hiss being a heavy hitter, I hope they wait a while to release him. Both for momentum of the line and so that there's enough money to fund a proper sculpt.

    I totally agree

He must look like the toy we all feel in love with back in the 80s. Just by looking at the figures so far it might be easier to make the snake form a bonus figure then trying to make the torso that "popped off" Either way as long as they make him and all the snake men I will be one very happy camper

The vintage version was crap IMO and I think the picture proves it.
They should intergrate 200X features. I am all for 2 figures. That would do the 2 forms more justice.

Making a snap on torso may sound cheaper, but a lot of people would by two of them anyway just to display both versions just like multiple heads versions.

Yeah, the MYP/Mattel redesign for Hiss did pretty much nothing for me.

Bring back the Classic Hiss ALL THE WAY!!!!

I love the creepy Zartan style look. No Disneyified 200x Hiss!

As for how the actual figure should work, IMO it wouldn't truly be a Classic Hiss without some kind of actual transformation going on.

But it would likely be tough to maintain the level of articulation if you're gonna incorporate that somehow.

That could work kind of like the 200x one.
Maybe just the torso could be hollow, so only the ab-crunch joint would be nixed.
The torso could be a "clip on" style thing around the top of the waist.
You'd then remove the torso (+head and arms) piece to reveal the snake torso underneath, with a pop-up "main" snake head.

And then the snake arms would be detachable.
That way you could go as crazy and snakey with them as possible without needing them to fit under the human shell.
Might be cool to go bendy or soft goods on some of the snakes.

So I guess that would be a combo of the full-on torso swap and the transforming thing we've already seen.
I wouldn't *hate* the torso swap (or separate figure) but I'd just like to see some form of transforming feature.
Of course, that kind of tooling is gonna be pretty expensive.
That said, I'll take a Hiss however they can do him.

they should approach him VERY carefully...like all snakes

hmmm...it is a toughy since i would want him articulated in both forms. he is going to be a costly figure.

    i see it like this:

removable upper body: normal and snake. easiest solution.

but i can see them doing a snakelike torso and human "armor" since that is what he had in the classic line.

OR he is the 1st DELUXE figure to be made!!!

2 sets of everything:snake and human

-arms- removable so you cna have one snake and one regular arm.

    -torsos: snake and regular

    -heads: snake and regular.

that way you can mix and match so you can have him in mid transformation.that is my dream anyway.
I want NA Skeletor and Rio Blast and I want them now!

I would hope he would have the removeable upper "armor". If it is their plan to do this character, then they should do it right. I preferred the vintage King Hiss as well, over 200X.

I would like the MOTUC figure to be a blend of the MYP version and the classic one... I'm not sure what that would look like, but I'm sure the 4 Horsemen could whip something up.

I have to say that the 200x version of Hiss (or should I say Hsss?) is one that I really wasn't all that fond of. i always prefered his classic look better. I'm assuming that this is the look they will use when he shows up in MOTUC, so that makes me happy.

However, I am unsure how they plan to do the snake body. I think the idea of two figures, or snap on/off parts is cool. But would Mattel really do that?

    I guess time will tell.

I think that would be crossing, violently, over into "action feature" territory.

I'd like to see a combination of the classic look and the 200x look. I also really liked MYP's take on him where they didn't give him any pupils at all, just big red snake eyes. That made him look more formidable than the beady-eyed figure. I also want them to use the snake form from the MYP cartoon with all the many heads and the double snak arms.

There are three looks for King Hiss.

    Vintage King Hiss
    Mini-comic King Hiss
    200X King Hiss

The 4H didn't sculpt King Hiss in 200X, but I like that design a whole lot better than the superhero from vintage.

However, knowing that a 4H 200X King Hiss is a long ways off, if we have to go the vintage route, I wouldn't mind the mini-comic King Hiss from Rise of the Snake Men. Now, that craggly faced guy looked really powerful and burly in human form. No comic-booky domino-mask over the face.

As for his snake mode, I'd support a snap on interchangable torso. Dunno how the snakes would be done. 5 Articulated snakes or Articulation for the big snake while the other snakes are bendies?

I understand the snake torso sculpt wasn't that impressive in 200X, but I really liked the egyptian Farao kinda look Hisss got instead of the green wetsuit. I am amazed at how much of you actually like it... ah well..

yeah not a big fan of the vintage look but to each thier own. just hope with whatever they come up with will look cool and i'm sure it will. having 2 torsos seems like a good idea if not expensive.

Does anyone have an image from the card back or comic?

Here are the toys - Personally I like elements of both and dislike elements from both as well.

This is King Hiss we're talking about, I really hope with MOTUC we can finally get him the way he should be. Ideally I'd like to see in human form, a creepy, dark, smiling with something just a little "off" in his eyes character...and in snake form I want scales and snakes and something terrifying.

I think I like the original snake form a bit better then the 200x one simply cause the snakes are bigger.

This Bruce Timm styled King Hiss would rock! Especially that 6th panel...

I want two upper torsos for Hiss, 1 snake, 1 human.

The problem with snap-on armour is that it would limit his articulation, and that was one of the things I hated about the 200x version.

Ok First NO 200x ELEMENTS AT ALL. Sorry but the 200x Hssss was the redesign I hated the most. They took a mysterious odd looking character and turned him what looked like an frail old egyptian.

I want a Classic style figure IN the old weird Cocoon type outfit and he has to have his MASK!!! that is what I missed the most from the last one.

If they merged the classic toy and classic comic that might work. There is nothing I can think of though that they could bring from the 200x one that would make the figure better.
After seeing how they did Hordak though. I have confidence that the 4h will do a good job of redoing him.

As for the Snake Transformation. I realley think the best way is 2 torso's, It makes the most sence.
