So many things wrong with this MOTU ad

Can you spot all the "mistakes"? It's a very cute, albeit loony, ad. A toy ad from a 1983 JC Penney Catalogue, brought to us from PlaidStallion.

But man oh man...it is hilariously insane!

    Mistakes? What mistakes?

all I can see is -

Mer-Man riding around on a yellow and green striped Panther Battle-Cat

He-Man attacking Castle Grayskull in the Attack Trak

    Man-E-Faces being a villain

Skeletor flying around in the Talon Fighter

All seems perfectly normal to me.

Wow. That's hilarious! Another item that is wrong: The way looking at those tiny prices makes me feel. *sigh*

Reading He-mans monologue about how he now has the weaponry to finally take over Grayskull...guess he felt he deserved it.

Yeah those prices...still, its all relative with inflation.

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong. Aren't there always 3 He-Men around? And I always see 2 Skeletors wherever I go. And my Uncle Skeletor always want to tell me about his exciting adventures in his Talon Fighter.

Could be that Skeletor has an army of Fakers now.

The mute Teela in the background who is watching this all go down is kind of eerie.

    Splendidly mad!

It's probably the leaked plotline of the next DC comics. Nothing would surprise me.

The sword that came with CG is totally the Power Sword, no doubt about it.

I guess maybe the people who made the ad thought MOTU was a toy line in which you were supposed to make up your heroes, villains and back-stories; when in fact it was the whole opposite and that's why they came with mini-comics.

I find the way the ad is rendered to be quite strange. Perhaps it's the outlines on the figures.
When it comes to She-ra Princess of Power characters, FILMATION is the way to go!.

Yeah, theres not much definition within the figures themselves, although the artist did have a good handling on characters, the outline is pretty stark against the muddied blending. Would love to own the original regardless!

    Hilarious!

It looks like the artist took a pic of actual figures, traced the outlines, and then used water colors to color it.

Or maybe they just painted right over top of the original pic.

Wow those prices seem very very steep . I am not sure what the Rand / Dollar exchange was in the good old days . If there was 10 difference as it is usually today , My parents paid less then a dollar for a Figure and 10 Dollars for Greyskull.

HeMan figure cost about 7 - 10 Rand . < depending on the year >
Castle Greyskull cost 100 Rand .
