What if they did 3 walls, the new non-vintage wall could be shorter. and more like a blank wall with detail. It could fold into the middle.

It isn't stubborn commitment to the 80s aesthetic, Scott said in his walkthrough with Pixel Dan that if they do anything more than the two sided castle like the vintage 80's was it will end up costing between $400.00 and $600.00 and Scott knows fans won't pay that so it's going to be a two sided castle just like the vintage 80's was.

    Best news of the year!
I fully believe the pre-order will go through. As already stated, CG is a much better item than the whole suscription: Cheaper, you know what you are getting and is the most iconic thing in the mythos besides He-Man and Skeletor.
Another point I haven't read here. CG is a pre-order item only, right? No "day of sales" Castles if you didn't pre-order. That's different from the subs too. Cherry pickers took their chances to get their favorite toys at day of sale, no such luck if they(we) want CG. That sounds like more pre-orders than subs to me.
I'm really surprised by the $200 tag, I expected at least a $300 price point. I wouldn't be shocked if it ends being $250 per ToyGuru's comments in the walktrough.

Thanks for that. I made a screencap.

I like the ladder and the turret (VERY minicomic). But I hope they stick more to the vintage toy for most of the interior accessories, rather than the prototype designs.

So...what if they set the price at $200 for the pre-order? Can they really set it to $250 in a year when we signed up for the pre-order?

My guess is no, but I never did a pre-order before.

Pixel Dan's new Power and Honor ep has a great shot of the original prototype:

Never done a pre-order either, but I guess once the price is set in stone they can't go back later and change it. The $250 would have to be the starting point from the get go, we will find out in less than a month!

No if we preorder for a price, its either charge us that or the cancel it.

Its the same reason they didnt raise the Sub MOTUC figs in 2012, b/c when we ordered the sub it was $20 a figure, so they had to uphold that.

Cool. I never did the sub, so I wasn't sure. In fact, I never bought a single MotUC item before, this Castle Grayskull would be the only thing I purchased from Classics. I wonder if there are more like me (non-MotUC collector who only bought Classics Castle Grayskull).

I like the general layout, although I do have a problem conceiving of a torture rack in Grayskull unless Skeletor brought it with him. Still, this would be different enough from the final design in the 80's to make it a must have. I'd still want this, even if they had to up it to $250 (which, for me, would be a lot more getting it from BBTS or another source, since I'd never allow Matty a year's worth of access to my credit card).

Nah, no thanks. As cool as the Turtles playset is, it is made up of a good amount of cardboard. I don't want any cardboard. I want all plastic, sculpted and painted details. Not stickers I have to apply.

Also, since the Castle won't be at retail, you can bet that they won't make as many of them, which is partly why it may cost more.

How about we just jump up and down until we can get it for $50.00.......

Come on man what do you want this thing to be made out of cardboard with no features period?

As stated ad nauseum, the line is super small which bumps the cost up for every thing #1, #2 I'd venture to say that most of the people here want some thing that is at least DECENT in regard to the quality and even that's an understatement.

I personally am in the camp of wanting it to have 4 sides, a roof, floor etc. and would be willing to pay let's say $500 for it, but I know that I'm in the minority.

Regardless, $200 is super fair and with all factors involved it's a happy medium price for *most* people. Any thing less or any thing more would leave a lot of people unhappy for a variety of reasons.

right b/c comparing a retail item that will be produced in far higher numbers then CG and is mostly cast in solid plastic and cardboard is a fair comparison

And if it’s half as cool as I can imagine it will be with them doing it? It will replace all previous Grayskull playsets. Even the vintage. (But not Icon Heroes, as well… I’m biased. And the playset likely won’t have the other sides and roof. Plus, the IH Castle has more display options.)

Just stop and think about what the FourHorsemen are going to do with this… Think about the wall treatments, the floors, the computers, the armor, the DUNGEON… Just think that through some, and try and tell me it will suck. It won’t.

They’re passion for this playset means it will be the crown jewel in any MotUC…Nay any Masters of the Universe collection.
OF all the accessories I want is the computer and robot suit. Especially since we already have weapon racks.

I hope the upper level throne is modelled after the Filmation version:

    Attachment 79246

The main throne would probably be best as a seperate add on diorama piece:

    Attachment 79247

I honestly doubt I'll be interested in the MOTUC Grayskull though The vintage toy was built for 'play' and I no longer play with my figures. I'd want an awesome display piece based on the most iconic version of Grayskull (Filmation). From all the Power-Con coverage and what most fans are wanting, we are gonne get an upscaled copy of the vintage toy (with ridiculous accessories/features like the lift, trap door, torture rack, Space Suit etc...)

If thats the case, I'd sooner just buy a 2nd hand vintage 1980's Grayskull off eBay for £20. Sure its a little small for the MOTUC figures, but it's good enough as a backdrop/display piece... The point I'm making is, I think it would be unwise for the sculpt and features to carbon copy the original toy. I'd sooner see something we've never had in plastic before!

Still will wait and see what they show next month in New York.
    10 figures I'd like: 10/Filmation Tung Lashor, 9/Saurod, 8/Perfuma (for completeness of POP ONLY!), 7/Sprag, Sprocker and Spritina, 6/Peekablue, 5/Hunga the Harpy, 4/Sssqueeze, 3/Filmation Clawful, 2/Dylamug, 1/Queen Angella.

MOTUC Grayskull won't be a carbon copy. It will be the equivalent of MOTUC figures. Updated, and cooler. None of them are anything we've had in plastic before. Otherwise we might as well stick to the vintage toys for everything.

The MOTUC figures, mostly vintage MOTU, are aesthetically copies of the 80's figures with much more articulation, which is cool because we are getting a more poseable toy. But the figures have their most iconic look.

With Grayskull it sounds like aesthetically, we are not getting anything new. The only difference being the scale. If it is styled after the 80's toy with no other influences then it just won't interest me. I mean since when did an ancient castle have a lift and a space suit? I grew up with Filmation and even as a kid I always wished the toys were closer in look to the cartoons. I only had Grayskull back then because of watching the cartoon and that was the only Grayskull released.

Really? He "knows" fans wouldn't pay $400-$600 (i.e. what people are paying for LEGO's Death Star at retail) if they were getting the jaw-dropping adult-collectible full castle many have been eagerly expecting, but he doesn't know they won't pay $200-$300 for an underwhelming carbon-copy of Mark Taylor's children-oriented clamshell? I'd sooner use those $200-$300 towards a custom full castle than waste it on a lame imagine-what-could-have-been-but-is-not half-castle.

There is no way they would meet the numbers for a $400 playset. Not all MOTUC fans are made of money.

As far as the "underwhelming carbon copy" comment, I would have a little more respect for the Horsemen's work and craftsmanship.

"Underwhelming Carbon Copy"? Seriously? We haven't even seen anything yet.
We don't even know if they've started the drawing the B-sheet!

Have the 4H not earned a teensy bit more respect than that?

People need to remember that all they said was that the proto castle was a starting POINT OF REFERENCE. Not the end all, be all. They never said it was going to be a copy. It's just a starting point.

This is a rough mockup using the icon heroes Castle Grayskull. The new side I would imagine would have nothing in the back there would just be a front and that side would fold in between the classic sides.
