I think a FAIR price for a MOTUC CG would be around $200, give or take, and it would have to be at least the size of the one pictured on the first page of this thread.

However, it really just depends on how much QUALITY gets put into the castle; so like Val said, it really just depends on what exactly we'd be getting, because in all honesty, I'd be willing to pay up to $300 for it, but it would have to be immaculate and worth every dollar.

It had better be packed with all of the details and goodies that we could possibly want for that much. I want a dungeon room, box for the Power Sword, the throne, trap door, cannon turret, working Jawbridge, additional weapons rak, training device(s), flagpole, resting place for the Orb of Power, Statue of King Grayskull, robot/suit of armor, computer console, security center, anda repaint of the Sorceress!

I would pay that much for Castle Grayskull happily, but it had better be worth it.
If we're lucky, a movie-styled Grayskull would be identical to the playset we all want for this toyline, and then we could get it in stores for a better price, without s&h.
Not to sound like a creepy cheerleader for Uki, but it's nice to know there is at least one person on this forum who is extremely positive & friendly all the time. I don't think I could be that nice even if you paid me. If we ever give out awards for "forum member of the month", Uki gets my vote. -Mr. Shokoti

They should make them all link up, maybe throw in some cliffs from the vintage toy posters to display the various warriors.

Nah. Not with other playsets to follow with those repeated or higher costs.

Fright Zone I'd buy up to a certain price, but if CG and SM are gonna be $250-$300 a pop count me way out.

To answer the question, "no." I, personally, wouldn't pay more than $200. I just can't afford to throw that money down for an action figure playset for that much money.

    I'm sticking with my argument-

Company's production costs VS what the consumer can spend

Their costs to make each unit matter little to me if I find it to be an unworthy expenditure. Toy companies might have to hike their costs but they have no right to blame us when it doesn't sell to their expectations. If our economy doesn't improve, within 5 years we may see the toy industry die off as a first sacrifice as luxury items will become a small market(few customers left by then) and oil resources may not go to plastics as much as they do now.

I haven't bought a single MOTUC through Matty. Closets was the TRU 2-packs, otherwise everything else was through this board at less than Matty costs per figure and total. It's not really my first monetary obligation to support any company. Bills and needs come first and if some toy company or game developer loses a sale because I buy it used somewhere else for less, they can learn to live with it(I say this knowing that the gaming industry is trying to outlaw sales of used copies of games, with only a few developers not against it). I'm not skipping food and bills so a toy company can get a bit of extra cash.

I just do not see a $200 diorama piece selling very well simply because it's a large cost that many can't justify.

Castle Grayskull for $200-300 is a bit much for a playset that is not even going to include everything the vintage one did. We still have to buy the weapons rack seperately for $15. Alll that money for a hollow shell would not be worth it to me. Had they said $100-$150 I'd be all for it.

For $200 -$300 it should be a humongous "playset" with a lot of floors etc...

I wouldn't buy one for that price. It's just way too much imo.
Around $100, maybe $150 tops is what I would spend.

I am actually looking forward to build my own,
that way it's how I want it in the right scale and
it'll be a lot of fun to work on together with my wife.

If the castle floors and walls are made w/ gold then yes.
So, absolutely not. $200-$300-really, I don't think so.

They should include a big fat metal chain so you could wear it as bling.

I was too young when it first came out, but wasn't the original CG going for about that much, when it first came out?

The original Castle Grayskull was $34.99 in the old Sears Wishbooks. Forgot which year it was exactly. I'm sure it could be looked up on that Wishbook site that has the scans. The vintage figures were like $3.97 at TRU if I remember correctly from those big flourescent orange price tags.

We're looking at like 10x inflation since that time period if they are serious with that price.

I'd say go for it Mattel. Put this thing out at such an insane price and let the people that want to buy jump on it. Do it soon while the line still has a fire under it and a bunch of resellers will dive on it. I could wait about 3 to 6 months and buy it cheap when resellers are stuck with an item only a hand full of people were willing to pay for full price.

I deeply love MOTU and all its incarnations and I own every Castle Grayskull (including the two variants from 200X) but I would NEVER spend that kind of money on the Castle!

I think this is why TG said it needs retail support.

The Castle should be $100-120 at retail.

Barbie's 3 story Dream Townhouse is $159.99 (in Mattel's online store) and is 30 inches by 7 inches by 32 inches.

    Look how MASSIVE it is!

Castle Grayskull would probably be 1/2 or 1/3 that size. So, it might be even cheaper than $100 at retail, but I wouldn't bet on it. $100 would be a good price.

Smaller Barbie houses range from $35-50 though.

Can you find out which Wishbook?
Because it was 19.97 when I bought it as a child at Best department store with my report card savings.
But, this was relatively early in the line.
No doubt it went up in price as the years went on, though. I do seem to recall it was closer to 30.00 later on. But I'll never forget the figures being 2.97 at Best and towards the end of the line being 4.97.

If the castle would be awesome, I'd pay that much for it. But with that much it'd definately need to have all kinds of cool transformation sounds and light effects - and atleast a working trap door.

Hmmmm.... well with 200X, figures were around 7 bucks and Grayskull was around 50 bucks. So roughly the price of 7 figures.

By my math that means They should be able to do it for $140 retail. Doesn't it reason that if the figure is around 3 times the price the same goes for the playsets?

Who knows, but I gotta say $300 is a lot of cheddar and would not get the ok from the Mrs. Perhaps $200 maybe on a good day.

The sad thing is we would all probably pay what it costs if it is done well enough, but maybe Mattel could throw us a bone and cut down their margin a little for that monster piece since were all getting raped for sub par quality as is.

I think this is an impossible question answer right now. Obviously we all WANT Castle Grayskull and will try to afford it at whatever the price ends up being, but at this time we have no idea whether 200 bucks is a fair price or not. How big will it be? How many features will it have? Etc... Right now we're all picturing different castles in our minds and trying to determine a reasonable price based on nothing but our imaginations, but it seems like a pointless exercise until we see a prototype.

For me it depends on what it all includes. If it is just as plastic shell, then no. But if it's double walled, with an inside and floors, then yea' I'm all in.

(I would have to sell enough stuff on eBay to upset the cost, otherwise my wife would never go for it.)

One of us would have to buy it for you, then gift it to you, and of course in return you would gift us with $400 paypal. ($300 castle and shipping twice)
