Is Skeletor's skull GREEN with Yellow facepaint?

If you look close at all the skelly figures we have, his skull seems to be green under his hood. With the only yellow parts being the face.

Is his skull just 2 colours or does skelly REALLY just have a green head and he puts warpaint on it? Has this ever been covered?

Is the skull yellow largely and the green is just shadow or something?

Seriously, don't you think this is a lot more frightening than just a normal bone coloured skull? What's under that hood?

This sounds like a question that's as old as MotU is! I never really understood the coloring on his face; you can tell from my old coloring books with crazy green and yellow on Skelly's face as I tried to copy the look. Most of the time I just went with yellow!

Personally, I think it's all yellow with some green here and there to display rotting. I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks, though!

Isn't there an early mini-comic where his hood gets knocked off and his whole skull is yellow? Seems like it was the last page in one of the early ones.

You are right, fneh. There is green around the edges of Skeletor's hood where it meets skull. I like to think of it as mold growing under the darkness of his hood. Would-be conqueror is a time consuming task so Skeletor doesn't have time to continually clear away the spores, molds and fungus that would grow on the dead parts of his body. If you pull his hood back there's probably a few mushrooms growing back there with a couple of maggots crawling through various holes in his skull. At least, that's the way I like to think about explaining the green color around the edges. So, in my opinion, his skull is yellow with fungus growing in the rear hence the green shadows.

I've always wondered if the green is just an attempt at shading from the hood.

I thought it was a "kid-friendly" attempt at showing different stages of decomp on the face into the neck... yellow and blue make green.

That's what I always thought it was. An early attempt at shading.

I always thought it was a yellow floating skull and there was a green glow around it. I thought that at first glance and have never questioned it. It's always seemed to me that was the intention.

I like to think of it as funky tribal paint or something.

I've heard the "attempt at a shadow" biz and I don't buy it. (No offense to those that subscribe to the idea)

The rotting flesh stuff could be cool but a little gory for my tastes. Still cool idea though.

In the end though I've always liked that he has greens, oranges and blues on his yellow skull to give interest and variety.

Just yellow alone is rather dull IMO.

That was from the Power of Point dread book, it had 2 stories and a record, it`s on the last page os the second story in the book "Danger at Castle Grayskull I do believe the green is supposed to shading from his hood since it only on his forehead and the sides of his face mine is more yellow with very thin green shading on the forehead

This is what I've always figured it to be too. If you could check far enough back on his head you'd find where the tissue was still attached, which keeps his head on his neck.

I agree with the decomp thing.

I find that MUCH more creepy (and cool) than a mere floating skull.

If I remember correctly, in the UK New Adventures comic, you actually saw Skelly have ears under his hood. He got badly hurt by He-Man, and his hood was destroyed, exposing green ears.

This is always what I wondered too.

Or the green is simply where his skull is going all horrible with age.

I always thought the green stuff was meant to be rotting flesh. And I really dislike MYP's idea of him having a floating skull.

The first figure to show him without a hood (Laser Light Skeletor) revealed that only the front of his face is missing.

I don`t think so, it`s very badly rendition of MOTU Skelly from a totally different line. If that`s the case we might as well just say he has eyeballs as well and ears!!!
