These are some beautiful (beautifully ugly?!) pieces. I thought they fitted best Hordak and MerMan:
I have appropriated all of these images from http://www.schellstudio.com/gallery/...p?cat=3&page=2 and did not create these images.
Now the serious bit is out of the way, I selected some of what could be wilder movie versions of Skeletor's henchmen Beastman, TraPJaw and TriKloPs:

How did you come to that conclusion?![]()
I'm actually quite a fan of that "amphipian creature" concept, and can easily see something like that for a reinterpreation of Merman in any future MOTU vision.
The rest? Ehhhh......Other than some superficial similarities I really dont see Mattel signing off on any of them. Hell, Karg from the 87 movie looked more like Hordak than the one above.
I would like my Tri Klops to be hot please. that one is grody. So not me.
Anyway, those are some cool pics .
Obey the whip!
Smile like you mean it.
More from the site, plus who I think they could be passed off as Skeletor, Dragstor, Mantenna and Orko:

I agree with this. the "Mer-Man" looks cool and I could easily see that as being the face of the live action ocean overlord, but the rest I just don't see anything MOTU about them. That Tri-Klops looks more like it could be used in a Gears of War movie as one of the Locust
As much as I love Jordu's work and I have been a fan of his for years if you want someone who knows how to do great sea people and would do a great Merman. You need to check out Steve Wang. Hes the guy that did the Guyver creatures, The Creature from the black lagoon in Monster squad, not to mention the Arnie hunter in Predator.

I have to disagree with you. Karg looked like a goof. I'd take a reinterpretation of Hordak like the one suggested.
I also liked the choices of Mantenna, Beastman and Mer-Man. They looked great as is. If you add some recognizable costumes pieces and the right color scheme, BOOM! Pure awesome.
Hey Moominsthenmotu, I like your way of thinking here, as I can definitely see a little if not more of each of the motu characters in the ones you presented!
This reminds me that I do hope that the next motu films sfx dept makes good use of actual costumes and masks integrated with cgi, as opposed to going the 99% cgi route that most films seem to take theses days, which, imo, usually ends up making the films seem less real and believable.
I really miss the "Jim Henson" days, which seems to be a lost art these days when it comes to making sfx based films.
Took a look at all of them and the only one that brought MOTU to my mind was the potential Dragstor. Sorry friend but the rest i'm not really seeing. Perhaps the MOTU images are chiseled in my mind of granite to accept anything else.
I don't want all the villains made into monsters. Cause some aren't! Don't like that idea of Tri-Klops looking like something from Pan's Labyrinth.
I FULLY SUPPORT THE INCLUSION OF ILLUMINA IN MOTUC!

i agree that my vision of these creatures as He-Man universe characters may be a little too out-there, but I agree with the poster who missed the days of make-up, puppetry and animatronics. 'Star Wars' movies work better with a mix than with total CGI.

Imagine the new MOTU Trilogy will use the new techniques from Avatar, imagine how beautiful Eternia and all the characters will look, especially beastlike characters like Beast Man, Whiplash, Clawful etc. I can't wait! And ooh it better blast Transformers and G.I. Joe out of the water! We need LOTR/Avatar quality people!![]()
The Hordak one looks like a cheesy Nosferatu Halloween mask. And the Tri-Clops revision is far too extreme.
Old people used to annoy me at weddings by pinching my cheeks &
saying that you are the next.
They stopped doing that when I started doing the same to them at funerals.
These are some great pieces, they would probably be a great company as long as they kept the characters we're familiar with looking the way we remember them with minor adjustments. Some of these look very Hellraiser, which is awesome, but it's not Masters. Some of these designs would be absolutely amazing for new characters or extra villians we catch glimpses of. Some of these faces only a mother could love (maybe) and would add a credible level of darkness to Skeletor's world.
I love the comments here, mostly tolerant of my little objet trouve experiment. I do think the movie could afford to depart from the classic look of the toys. I wouldn't have a problem with it - kind of like the way 'Batman Begins' and 'Casino Royale' showed how fantastic heroes could function in the real world.
Whatever they do, we need monsters - I do love the Lungren/Goddard MOTU movie, but kind of separately from the toys I collected - but dagnammit, they needed monsters, mole-creatures, stop-motion shadow-beasts. Would've been incredible!

Wow! they have very actualy design for a new movie! congratulations!
With today's level of GGI I see no reason why they couldn't make the characters on screen look as close to their toy counterparts.

No offense, but I just don't see how any of these relate to MOTU. And I also venture that live action characters would look almost nothing like the above.

I return to Jordu Schell's site with ebullient enthusiasm - here's an approximation of Trap-Jaw, crudely mashed together from Jordu's designs:

Pardon the dumb question, but do we know for sure that this is the new movie's "Creature Shop"? Because the title of this thread implies that we do.
