I will always be happy while I am successful in getting the figures. I will call shenanigans on the whole concept the very day I miss out
Well, today has been a bumper day for MOTUC - the release of King Randor, the Goddess and rerelease Skeletor. And such "bumper" release patterns seem set to continue over the months to come.
And while in one respect it is great that the line is going so strong, and it's nice to get our fix... are they releasing a little too much at once?
I mean, I love the line, but (even excluding overseas postage) it was a real dent in my wallet to fork out for each of these figures all at once (okay, I got two of each, but that's my own fault! ). The fact that it comes so near such an expensive time as Christmas doesn't help much either.
I'm all for meeting demand, but does anyone else wonder if they'd be better doing a bonus one month, rerelease another, or something similar? Or are you happy that they're putting so much out there, all at once?
Personally, yes I love that we're getting so much... but I have a hard time affording it all. As it is, I've reluctantly had to force myself to drop the Ghostbusters line just to keep up with MOTUC.
I'm just interested to guage people's opinions.
Yeah I really think they should spread out the toys they sell. I'm not just talking about the other toys like the Ghostbuster figures, Cars, ect. Mattel should release the regular figure on the 15th like they always do and sell the bonus figures like on the 30th or 1st of each month. I think it will be easier on everyone's wallet and it would help with the overload Mattycollector.com experianced today.
It's just too much demand at once and already too many customers are unhappy and mad.
So yeah they should spread out the release of ALL the figures over the month. Just my opinion.
People sleep peaceably at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Looking at those Facebook comments, thank God they decided to hold Wave 11 back.
I agree. It's a big much. Look how things are going to be when Trap-Jaw and Battle-Cat is released. Trap-Jaw will probably sell very quickly because he doubles as Kronis. I hope they make enough Battle-Cats.
I think what they ought to do is not release so much on the
same exact day, especially if they know they can't accommodate
the heavy traffic. They ought to delegate certain days for certain
lines and maybe people may be able to get through. They also should
limit quantities atleast for the first day of release. Today was totally
unacceptable, especially when people missed out because Matty wouldn't
let them check out due to error difficulties.
I think today's issues are a perfect example of why their merchandise needs to be staggered. Clearly, Digitial River is not set up to handle the volume that these releases generate. Given that Mattel is going to apparently continue to keep DR onboard, they really need to rethink plan going forward. All this type of situation does is continue to create ill will with their customers.
Id like to see 2 max, 3 is to much...but Ill still buy em. They better make enough battle cats
I think the overall problem is that there is too many brands released at the same time, i dont know why they couldnt stagger the lines, its evident that the servers arent coping, even with a Grayskull size server as Toyguru has stated, i am honestly concerned when Battle Cat goes on sale.
I think if they continue with other lines to sell on the same sale date then no more then 2 motu at a time, i really like having 3, as i do save on shipping plus i buy for 2 others so i can buy the lot of 10, i would prefer the other brands staggered and still release motu characters on the same date, i wouldnt want them to stagger motu over the course of the month that would hurt international fans as far as shipping goes, im happy for the re-issued characters for the fans that have either missed out or come into the line late but this morning WAS very frustrating. Its getting to the point where they have to make some decisions.
Skeletor selling out like he did and its not fair not only on the people like myself and around the world that try to order these figures online when they go on sale but cant.
Its also not fair on the other fans that get home from work and to see that the figure they want to buy has gone, but i guess thats getting off topic abit, thats more production problem.

Evil Army of the Horde!!
Remember greed drives everything! If they think they can pump out more figures every month and get away with it they will! They do need to spread it out, maybe not have as many special figures(Like the originally stated!). I actually think it will get worse!
Some interesting thoughts.
But assuming that they ever do get their servers sorted out (watch out for those flying pigs! ) I have a hard time with it money-wise.
I love the line, but I think a max of two per month would be better. As I suggested at the top, personally, I'd like to see a bonus one month, a rerelease the next, and so on...
Gotta be honest, I'd much rather not have so much released on one day.
I agree with you Spacedust!
Ill say this, first time I get screwed out of a figure, Iam done with the line, and Iam not paying for anymore! They can forget about my sub!

In MOTUC line, I think they need to limit what they release to 1 Regular release and 1 bonus figure a month. I think they should have either pushed Skeletor or the Goddess to another month. It does get expensive.
We survived the long night.... MOTU Forever!
Limiting qtys is the problem. I order in big qtys , why?! to save on the shipping. I have 3-4 buddies who chip in.
Qtys is not the issue. The online ordering needs to be address. DR doesnt look like they can hold the volume.
Besides if the demand of these figures are higher then whats being sold then Matty needs to up the qty. Thats why they are re-issueing figures, because they didnt order enough the first time.
***** note qty's are limited due to subscriptions also. I dont have subscription Im wishing i would have got one now
Yeah it was a bit much…I'm glad I didn't want Skeletor again! And, it's obvious that the site wasn't prepared (again) for the amount of traffic it got.
200X fan? Classic fan? What does that mean? I'm a MotU fan!!!
I want them to go back to one figure per month.
I'm wanting to buy or trade for a set of the Wonder Twins figures *with* a Gleek that have nice solid clean paint applications. If you have a set and are interested private message me.
just got mine
I love that all MOTUC classic releases are coming on the same day each month, but I DON'T LIKE that it's the same day Ghostbusters, DCUC, etc etc all go on sale too.
There should be staggered release dates throughout the month, because- as today has proven once more- the site can NOT handle all the traffic!
I'm cool with the system that currently in place. Alternating between bonuses and re-releases each month would slow down the character releases too much. I don't like that idea. I'm not thrilled with someone like Tytus, Megator etc. getting pushed into 2011.

Mattel can do what they want to run their business. I've no beef with the amount of items sold today.
I also think we don't have all the info as to why there were server issues this morning.
I've no doubt the traffic was higher than normal today, and without knowing the full story, is easy to blame that. But I don't think we "know" the real reasons behind the server problems.
If it was indeed the higher traffic, then I'm sure Mattel will continue to work on resolving those problems.
They were very fast to correct it today, at least from my vantage point as a buyer. I know that's not the case all around and do feel bad for folks that missed out.
If my remarks seem overly glowy and happy for Mattel today, keep in mind, I JUST ORDERED THE GREEN GODDESS TODAY! And I'm confident she's on her way. So yeah, admittedly, I'm biased today.

The way I see it, staggering the release of the figures will do NOTHING to help. At least not with the cost. We will just be paying extra shipping, and some of us area already paying extra shipping having subscriptions and then placing orders for the bonus figures and reissues.
I mean, if the line is hurting your wallet, then the only real solution is for less items to be released in a month.... period. Regardless of whether or not they come out on the same day. I mean, if having the figures come out 2 weeks apart (while requiring you to pay extra shipping) is your idea of a "solution" to this issue because paying for them all at once is too much for you, then you seriously need to learn to better manage your money, or rethink whether or not buying MOTUC at all is a wise purchasing decision given your individual circumstances (no offense intended here, but just being honest regarding the issue... you will actually be paying more in the long run with this method, so I don't see how anyone in their right mind, especially someone with tight finances, can consider this a reasonable alternative).
I also wouldn't want them to stagger their other lines either, because speaking as someone who is collecting the Ghostbusters figures and the occasional DCUC item, I really don't want to pay separate shipping for those either.
The way I see it, the only solution is to either find a way for the site to handle more traffic all at once, and/or create a preorder system:
I also don't think the site was ever truely moved to a "Grayskull sized" server (or in other words a bigger server). After that statement was made, the red screen of death was implemented. They didn't find a way to allow for more traffic on the site, they just found a way to try and manage the traffic that was there.
I think the G4 segment last night pay have caused even more traffic than normal today, so much so that even the red screen couldn't help (hence the 404 errors people got).
