I don't think they resemble each other at all.
Has anyone noticed the uncanny likeness of Wundar, the Savage He-Man, and Thundarr the Barbarian?
THUNDARR
I don't think they resemble each other at all.
Not necessarily in the look, but just similarities overall.
WUNDar/THUNDar
Both were savage sword wielders...
You're not going to get it from that bit of Fan Art but the resemblance to the actual cartoon figure is pretty much dead on. I have a Thundarr figure from earlier this decade that basically stood in as an articulated He-man until Classics gave me the real thing. And he predates He by a few years - so Conan wasn't the only stylistic influence.
Hey, read his bio: Wun-darr comes from the underground city of Tundaria.
Just a coincidence?![]()
I think He-Man looks more like Thundarr than Wundar does. And Thundarr (who IMHO is cool as hell) was around before He-man.

grasping at straws there dude.
We survived the long night.... MOTU Forever!
Sounds more like a Thundercats referance. Thundar was future Earth after a comet broke the moon in half. Thundar's sword was the sun-sword (lightsaber).
Wun-Dar is named from Wonder Bread. I think it was more of a natural way to name the character more than it was to be like Thundar really. Coincidence would be all that applies here. You'd have to pop the regular He-Man head on the Wun-Dar body and put a brown tunic on the figure to really get a Thundar look. Maybe after Grizzlor is made, assuming they just use a Beast Man body with a fur outfit, then a Thundar custom can happen easily.

Oh the look is there. Both straight from Conan. The hair style and everything was popular to do back then. It's just that it would only be due to similar designs that already existed that makes it. Then if you want to stretch it, the brown of Wun-Dar adds to it. But still it's no different than Blackstar even. I mean that's the look everyone was going for.

Wun-Dar was so named as a MOTU-ized play on the word Wonder, as his history is a huge myth tied to Wonder Bread. Tundaria doesn't mean anything either. Like somebody said, you're grasping at straws here.

yeah most toys & cartoon heroes looked all alike
Haha, would be hilarious if that gold power sword show at the art show was a power sword for Thundarr
Notice how much they look alike and are almost alike?

I would believe that their similarities aren't coincidental. That Thundarr was made in hopes to
mimic the success He-Man and MOTU once garnered, however I believe Thundarr precedes
even He-Man. Considering that it was the 80's I suppose that Thundarr, Blackstar and He-Man were
just generic sword wielding barbarian Conan-esque archetypes very prevalent in that time period.

That's pretty much the size of it. Thundarr aired from 1980 to 1982. So it was ending as MOTU first appeared. Contrary to popular opinion, Thundarr is not a rip-off of He-Man. And Blackstar preceeds He-Man too, having aired in 1981. If anything, He-Man is a rip-off of them. But in actuality, they're all rip-offs of Conan.I suppose that Thundarr, Blackstar and He-Man were
just generic sword wielding barbarian Conan-esque archetypes very prevalent in that time period.
And they're all still awesome.
Thundar actually was a series that precedes he man according to the copy rights at the end of the show.
Black starr was a short lived show wasn't bad.
They all had majic swords , I think the conan movie was the major inspiration for babarians with majic swords.

I just wonder why I didn't notice the passing comet that destroyed our atmosphere in 1994.
How I wish we had a "classics" Thundarr...
