BTW, don't try to pry the chest open on your regular Hordak. It... goes badly.
I was really surprised by how much I like this guy! I would have liked him even better with that promised Hssss torso..but that's another thread..Anyway, I never realized what a departure the standard Hordak was from the toy version until we got this guy. Seeing his colors, loincloth, etc just immediately took me back to the vintage toy, and as a result, Buzzsaw Hordak is now on display with my evil Horde, and the first Hordak we got has become my 200x Hordak to be on display with King Grayskull, Callix and soon to be the Horde Wraith. These last few months of Classics have been so awesome! I am loving the vintage wrap-up.
Lame. Hope I can sell him for what he costs me. Worthless to me without a Filmation Hordak head.

Got my Buzz Saw Hordak…
First off…he displays fantastically. The torso is well done. I have no QC issues at all. All paint apps and joints are good. The gloss black on the bones seems to carry over from Hurricane Hordak…I actually wish they'd done the brushed metal look like the first release of Hordak. I do really like the figure though and I'm glad they made him.
Now…should Rio Blast have gotten the same treatment? Yes. I said in another thread that Mattel should have created a generic opening torso that could have been used for at least BS Hordak and Rio Blast. With a little finagling it could have potentially been used for Dragstor too.
Also…they should have done some sort of energy blast effect that could plug into his open chest with the buzz saw attaching into the front of the blast so it looks like it's exploding out of him. There's a thread discussing an energy blast pack…YES! DO THIS MATTEL!! And include one for BS Hordak!
Lastly…anyone else notice that Dragstor is on his card back? I don't remember them ever putting an unreleased figure on a card back before? Just an observation.
So…since I want to end on a happy note…yes I'm glad I have this figure. Now Mattel needs to make Mantisaur so BS Hordak has his steed!!!
200X fan? Classic fan? What does that mean? I'm a MotU fan!!!
is his armor a separate piece? I swear if that's sculpted on the actual Torso.
Not as bad as I thought, but certainly one I wouldn't have bought if these figures were in stores. I'll make some comedic use of him, of course. On the other hand: I am surprised at how good a stand-in he is for normal Hordak! I could see some folks preferring him over the first version. The colors are brighter, the eyes and teeth stand out more, and his chest is posed in such a way that he looks imposing. It's obvious that his chest opens, but honestly, it could be waved away as an armor detail, if you wanted.
I guess, if I had any complaints, it's that I think they could have easily worked in a firing feature without adding too much more. One of those "pressure" launchers would have been enough (no springs), and a non-protruding button on his back, hidden by the cape. Ah well.

Alexx has a blog?! Come on in and check out Toys and Tomfoolery! You won't regret it...until the next morning.
...The way I personally see it, He is just another incarnation/form of Hordak!! More specifically: Original Hordak is the "first form/Pre-Eternia invasion form, Blue Hordak is "post-banishment/Etheria Invasion/Occupation Hordak, And Hurricane & Buzzsaw represent his "return to Eternia" forms! HH Hordak mention he was "fitted with a hurricane-blaster"... My story is that he found the techno-organic infested pool from He-Ro's curing, and that's where he got the golden armor & morphing arm! And of course Buzzsaw was a further change when he entered the Central Tower!

Buzz Saw Hordak! - Basically the most unnecessary variant in the line.
That being said, I have always sort of wanted this figure. I always though the idea of Buzz Saw Hordak was perfectly in-character and made a lot of sense giving the Filmation Hordak interpretation that was tech based.
Matty took an interesting approach with this figure, one that ultimately works, but not my preferred approach.
First off, the new torso is appreciated. I've seen some anger at BS Hordak since Rio Blast didn't get his torso, but I don't give a crap about Rio Blast so that doesn't bother me.
I have two issues with the new torso.
First, the buzz saw is almost laughably small. Some fans complain about 200x over-sizing everything to the point of ridiculousness (and I agree with some aspects of that), but this is a case where a little bigger would have been better.
My second issue with this figure is the fact that they gave him the torso. Now, let me explain. I think what I would have preferred is removable armor that mimicked the opening effect. I'm not sure how that would have looked, but if it could have been pulled off, it would have been much better for display option. I would have liked the ability to put the removable armor on Filmation Hordak for instance and have one Hordak fully teched out with an arm cannon and a Buzz Saw chest.
That would have been really cool, but alas we didn't get it.
Instead we got a new torso which limits display options and cost me my Snake Torso.
Way to not think anything through Mattel and manage to screw the fans again.
So that being said, let's look at Buzz Saw Hordak.
I like this figure and I'm not afraid to say it. He's the third best Hordak in the line. Buzz Saw is better than both Hurricane Hordak and the original release Hordak.
This figure is essentially a repaint of the original Hordak minus the chest gimmick and the different belt in the vintage line. Mattel at least made more effort than they have in the past to spruce this figure up. I can't express how shocking that is.
First, a positive change is that the belt is the same as the other releases. I'm happy that change was made. I know the vintage one had a different belt, but I like the uniformity this one provides and it basically gives us a classic toy Hordak. I'll count that as a positive.
Second, the chest cavity works quite well and looks nice when it's closed.
Third - and this is huge - the paint apps on this guy are a wonderful improvement.
The original release Hordak has some of the most notoriously sloppy paint apps and on top of that they're dull and drab. That's bad for a toy. It's even worse for a MOTU figure. MOTU is all about color to me.
The red on this guy is much brighter, the gray is more vivid, the glossy black highlights are sharp, and the silver belt looks nice.
The white crossbow is a very nice touch for those that were unable to get purchase the Spirit Of Hordak.
Lastly, the arm bad appear to be super glued in place. I'm not sure what's up with that, but at least it's not sliding down. However, if we're going that route, I'd have preferred it to just be sculpted on in the first place.
Hordak is another figure with a cape and it does limit his posing options somewhat. The lack of an ab crunch is not a negative here since the cape interferes with the posing anyway.
My ankles are a hair loose on this guy, but no biggie.
The small buzz saw looks a bit funny.
No Filmation head, no snake torso, all of which could have and should have come with this guy; but Mattel has to gouge us every chance they can get.
Final Grade: B
Buzz Saw Hordak is not what he could have been, but for what the figure is, he's not too bad honestly. His colors are an improvement over the vintage release Hordak, the buzz saw feature is nice too. The only problems is this guy still feels like he needs something else - probably an energy effect for the buzz saw or an alternate head.
Either way, I like this guy, and he's still a cool toy.
My wife convinced me to keep him and try to do some detail painting to match the original. So I opened him but after having them side by side, I just don't care for him. I prefer the original. So I gave him to the kids for the toy box. Rather he get played with then sell him for a loss
Each of these releases are little more than slightly altered copies of one another. They're all awesome in their own way, but lets not pretend that BS Hordak has an exciting new paint scheme. It doesn't.
I will agree that the buzz saw itself does look puny, and when everything surrounding this figure is added up, there's just not much to talk about. Its really just a Malibu Stacy. If Mattel really wanted to impress anyone with BS Hordak, the following should have been included
- A newly sculpted cape to make him stand out (vintage throwback)
- Newly sculpted interal chest details and paint apps
- Larger buzzsaws/a array that holsters more than 1 saw. 2 or 3 saws would have been nice.
- New arm attachement
- Minor paint details, such as eye color to give him his own characteristics.
Combined, these changes would have helped to remedy the lack of additional head or torso.

I ran into someone on Twitter who called it "garbage" specifically because the torso opens, and it isn't a Rio Blast-esque armor overlay with a flap.
You can't please everyone.
Let me correct this for you:
I've never liked that dirty silver wash on the gloves of the original release in classics. The differences are noticeable.
I personally think HH is pretty awful and not at all awesome aside from the ability to kitbash him with the first Hordak. HH does have a darker gray which looks better. They're all awesome in their own way
