On the BBC Doctor Who site you can download episode wallpapers for the new series. In one of the the Doctor is riding a triceratops on a spaceship. I couldn't help but picture Bionatops a little bit.

I liked the episode not much other to say than that.

Been a 'classic' WHO fan since my first episode in 1973. For me the appeal was always how they managed to transcend the meagre budget and create something truly imaginative. Now they seem to think that pretentiously convoluted plots with a shed-load of money thrown at them make 'good' televsion. Every season of the new version I watch one episode and then tune out in embaressment. This year is no different. Bye bye WHO (again)
I so disagree, I actually prefer the new Dr Who to the old ones and yes I have seen a lot of the old ones and I do think they are great but I find these new ones to be better written with more interesting characters.

I guess I just like my stories to be as linear as possible.
I could be wrong but I think the voice heard was one of the "Silent" those aliens that you can only see and remember when looking at them from season 6.

Also what answer do you want?

The Silence believe that "Silence will / must fall" (possibly the universe comes to an end) when the Doctor answers the question which is... Doctor Who? Basically when he reveals his true name that's the end so they want to kill him and make his death a fixed point in time to stop him from ever answering the question

I don't think that voice belonged to one of the "Silence" aliens. It sounded old and decrepit. Much different to their voices. I hope it belongs to the “big bad”. I got the impression that the Silence and that woman with the eye patch were just lackeys in the greater scheme of things, with someone else higher up pulling the strings.

Thanks for helping out with the “answers”. I do hope we get a “big bad”, though. I’ve heard many rumblings of Omega. Weren’t some soldiers or something wearing uniforms decorated with his symbol in the last series?

Yes I do think Omega's symbol was seen on Demon's Run (the Military base of the Silence) so perhaps the voice heard by River Song was him which would be really cool imho because while I do love the new villains such as the Weeping Angels I always like to see the return of classic ones.

Just thinking silly thoughts but perhaps the Doctor's name is a password that will somehow allow Omega to reenter our universe which would not be good as he and his universe are made of anti-matter which doesn't really mix well with normal matter.

    Just a silly thought

I thought it was a good episode, but probably my least favorite premiers of them all.
Can someone PM me the US number for Matty? I want to talk to someone who might has a clue of what is going on.

Really, really liked this episode. Who could have imagined the Daleks ever having to ask the Doctor for help?

I was really bummed to see that Amy and Rory had separated since the end of last season, but it seems like thingss have worked out. Love those two! (Also enjoyed watching Amy do some modeling!

The ending was really creepy and sad, however. Poor Oswin!

I thought this was a great premiere episode! To be honest, I always thought the premiere episodes of the RTD era were sometimes a bit too lightweight, though I understood the "grab the masses" approach of them. This was entertaining, featured the Doctor's #1 enemy but also had a bit more meat on it's bones, I think.

I did not care in any way, shape or form for the new titles, I'm sad to say. I know they are going to change per episode (and I liked the new typeface for the actor's names) but the murky vortex wasn't doing it for me. Thankfully, that was a very small part of the episode (though I do think titles are important for setting tone.)

I really thought this was the best Dalek episode since "Dalek" as well. Overall I tend to find them dreadfully boring, so it takes quite a bit for me to perk up too much for them. I was intrigued to see the new Daleks relegated to the background, for the most part. Apparently they are saying these are "officer" Daleks versus the Dalek masses that are still the bronze ones.

I liked our little taste of Oswin. I'm not sure how I feel about the reports that when JLC joins the TARDIS crew she's going to out-manic Matt. I'm not sure I like that approach, but we'll wait and see. I felt like Amy was already pretty quirky so I'm a bit afraid of cranking the quirk up further. Also, there were a few too many shades of River Song to work long term, I think. But we have no idea if Clara is going to be like Oswin. But I did like the actress a lot, and look forward to seeing what happens.

It was great to catch up with Rory and Amy. I'm a fan of the Ponds, and it was an interesting direction to take them, though it seemed a little too neatly resolved by the end. Also, I was a bit annoyed at Amy's reason for pushing Rory away. It annoys me when women in the media tie their ability to have children with their worthiness. Also, have they never heard of adoption? It just didn't make a lot of sense.

But all in all, suitably creepy and a great start to the season! Roll on dinosaurs, and I hope they erase the sad dinosaurs from The Dinosaur Invasion forever. (Although I watched that story recently and if you ignore how bad the Dinosaurs are it's actually a very good story.)

I liked it pretty much, definitely a lot more than that Narnia-inspired special, although I still think the Dr. Who writers like the hopeless doom much more than I do. Oswin's ending was predictably grim, although I was tricked into expecting some kind of last minute save to make her the new companion after all the hype. Also I found the Amy/Rory conflict contrived and didn't need that stretched out over several episodes no matter how neat its resolution seemed. If breaking them up is the only thing left to do with them then I'll be more than happy if they just stay on Earth. Frankly I think it's time for someone more like Martin Freeman's Watson to be the companion rather than another girl and especially more than someone who competes for manic-ness with the Doctor, but I guess we've got Sherlock for that dynamic (puny as their seasons are).

I don't feel like we have a lot of big questions left other than the obvious "doctor who?" which obviously has something to do with River knowing his real name. Maybe we'll get around to saving her from purgatory in the library with that plot element? I still think the whole "Time Lords are evil now" thing could use some correction (and maybe actually doing something with Clarie Bloom as "the Doctor's Mother"). Also River's comment about two doctors being "a whole different birthday," the Doctor's daughter who is still flying around somewhere, and the Tardis as a human would all be nice to revisit, but I don't expect them to go to any of those stories again. The Daleks forgetting the Doctor is interesting and kind of sad because I liked the exchange with the leader about finding hate beautiful and how that may be why they never succeeded at kill him. Maybe their rediscovering that will play in to their future dealings with him.

The biggest question lingering right now is who said "Silence Will Fall" and who tried to blow up the TARDIS? That's supposed to be resolved eventually.

I just assumed that was the Silence. As much as I love big bads, I don't usually expect one with Doctor Who. It does make me think of the drums and the Master though...

Saw it, loved that the opening will change as the season goes on depending on the episode. Like this one had a Dalek flavor to it. To me the opening is one of the best parts of Dr. Who and the Matt Smith opening is great. I love how the TARDIS spins.

I can't wait for the new companion. I'm honestly getting a little tired of Rory and Amy. I really like that they took Amy's narration out of the opening. As far as I know they only did that on BBC America and as a long time Who fan, you know prior to 2005, I was a bit insulted by it.

Apparently it IS someone/something else, I seem to remember that being covered in an interview somewhere. The whole thing with "Silence will fall/The Silents" got confusing, but silence hasn't actually fallen yet. That's all in the future with the Fields of Trenzelor and the fall of 11. So I do think they are playing a long game. Some people have said the symbol of Omega, the rogue Timelord from the old series, appeared on the Asteroid base of Madame Kovarian and have suspected that he might be the big bad behind it all. I'm intrigued to see where it goes.

The season premiere was pretty good. I'm curious just how Ozwyn is going to make her return for Christmas. I have an idea, but I'm probably way off. If the new season stays with decent writing like the premiere, I may have few complaints this time around. Last year's Christmas special still was terrible.

Yep, could be Omega (as in the Timelord) although it could just be that they wanted to represent the "end" of the Doctor, which Omega also represents.

true it could just represent the "end" but we all know how they like to throw little clues like this into seasons that hint towards the big bad but that you don't really notice until the last episodes in which the show looks back and show how all the little throwaway lines and images and stuff that you paid zero attention to were actually very very important

Is she the new companion?? I liked her a lot, but I figured she was a one-off character.
EDIT: OK, just re-read some of this thread. I guess she will be the new companion - so I imagine some time jumping or alternate-universing will be involved.

The actress will return as the next companion. The names of the characters are a little different though.

Personally, since she was using the Dalek telepath hive mind web thingy to manipulate the entire Dalek asylum when the Doctor and friends needed her to, and her last line to the Doctor before her 'death' was "Remember me." as she looked at the camera (breaking the fourth wall and looking at the audience) my theory is that it means she somehow uploaded her consciousness either into the Doctor's mind somehow or into another Dalek in the telepath web.

Either way, I'm glad she is returning somehow. Her first appearance alone made me instantly like her. I think she'll make a great companion, however the hell she manages to return with a physical presence.

This time, however, I hope the show goes back to the Doctor traveling time and space with a pretty young lady. Rory eventually grew on me, but I'd prefer the boyfriends of female companions not tag along too often. The relationship drama tends to get a bit too much when the show's focus is supposed to be the Doctor.

I agree with you to a certain extent, but I think it's interesting having another male in the companion role - I think Rory has offered different perspectives on heroism, bravery, devotion, emotion, etc. Not to say a female couldn't/wouldn't, but I think the nature of the relationship with Rory in particular is different and you get more to work with.

But the relationship issues can get irritating and distracting.

Well they also do that so they can avoid the complaint people use that they only have female companions in the new show.

Season premiere was better than every episode from last season IMO.

I'm optimistic but dreading the return of River. It's time for Amy and Rory to go too.

The new girl in the Uhura dress has promise considering her background. The Doctor hates 1 thing in the universe and hopefully she will force him to reconcile that hatred.

wait. how can oswyn come back? neither her or the doctor recognized each other so we know they didn't meet in one another's past / future (like with river).

so, unless she didn't really die when the entire planet blew up, i'm not sure how she can come back and the show still make sense.

    two things
    1) the transformation to Dalek removes their ability to love. Not just romantic love but the capability to love in all context. She also made the Daleks forget who the Doctor is/was.
2)Oswin Oswald is the character here we met, the next companion's name is Clara (Oswin).

Karen Gillan, Freema Agyemen, and going back even further Lalla Ward all played characters in Doctor Who before becoming a companion. Granted in each case they were chosen after the initial portrayal of another character.
