Television or Movie scenes that, "Get You Every Time"

lol don't worry about it and please don't stop on my behalf as it was getting good. I was just curious as to what was going on because you were mixing sports analogies (which I have admitted to hating probably as much if not more than BJH) with Groucho Marx (who I have never seen anything by) and Woody Allen (who I shall shock everyone by revealing that I think he is one of the least funniest people on the planet and has not been in or made a single thing I liked)

You and BJH combining all three made me a bit lost

Some time ago, after I'd made a sports analogy in The Tar Swamp, he jokingly indicated that sports analogies are his Achilles' heel. Thus when he good-naturedly shot back after I'd good-naturedly called his Godzilla movie moment lame, I returned a sports analogy to him, hoping to inflict some pain. Groucho and Woody Allen were just sidebars.

I confess I do BJH's wit.

Good God, I'm a pretty burly guy, none of my friends expect me to be one who would cry over a movie or TV show, but I cry like a little girl every time I watch this!

The other one that really gets me is the scene from the JLU episode "Epilogue," where Batman sits in the park with the Royal Flush Gang's Ace, a little girl who is moments away from dying. She's immensely powerful, but she knows she's about to die and she's afraid, and she just asks him to stay with her until she's gone. That one does it on so many levels.

Yu Yu Hakusho: Yusuke tries to stop Kurama from sacrificing his life--via the Forlorn Hope--to save the latter's human mother by pleading with it to take his life. (The Forlorn Hope does save Kurama's mother's life anyway--without a sacrifice.)

Rune Soldier: When Melissa finds out that Louie is her champion, she starts saying to herself, "This is against my will." (Cracks me up every time.)

POP: She-Ra calls her brother a "chicken" while he's trying to get away from Frosta's advances. (Still cracks me up to this day.)

Wow! There's another "Mr. Roboto"!! Does that mean i have to change my username? After all, two Roboto's are better than one!!

Anyway, so many examples mentioned and most bring back memories etc... some which come to mind right now that "get me" are:

* Top Gun - when the F-14 goes into a flat spin, Maverick & Goose eject from the cockpit but Goose ejects into the canopy and dies instantly. Then in the next scene we see Maverick holding Goose's lifeless body...

* Saving Private Ryan - there are a few scenes in this film, the first being - if i remember correctly - is when Edward Burns and Barry Pepper are sorting through the dog tags while the Charlie Company 506th are walking by and watching those two treating it like a game of sorts until Giovanni Ribisi sees this and comes over to point out their carelessness and to show more respect. Another scene is towards the end when Jeremy Davies is supposed to bring ammunition to Adam Goldberg, but Davies terrified, hesitates and Goldberg and a German soldier get into a struggle in which Goldberg dies while the German soldier walk down the stairs and past Davies...

* Rocky 3 & 4 - Mickey's death in the change room and the ensuing scene at Mickey's funeral always chokes me up. Apollo's death in the ring and his wife's reaction. During the argument between Rocky and Adrian - i know these scenes are common in Rocky films but for some reason this one stands out to me. Also while in Russia when Duke tells Rocky that when Apollo died, a part of him died too...

Reviving a golden oldie thread here, but after being snowed in and watching some movies, I wanted to add something to this list.

The end of the movie "Warrior" when the two brothers are facing off against each other in the ring. Gets me every time when the music starts up and the one is looking at Tommy and he's squaring off with one dead arm. Then the movie really does me in when Brendan says what he does to get Tommy to tap out. And the way he does tap out, kind of gently patting his brother's shoulder. Holy cow, this movie gets me bad!

Honorable mention to when the dad is trying to talk to Tommy in the casino, and Tommy just rips him apart and throws the cup of quarters at him. I understand that there is a LOT of hate towards the dad for how he was when they grew up (I came from the same type of home), but at the same time, the dad is just trying and trying to show he's changed and the sons just won't have it. Great scene here.

I would have to say mine would be in "The Never Ending Story" When Atrau loses Artex in the Swamps of Sadness.

Hachi: A Dog's Tale Pretty much the whole thing from the middle of the movie onward.

Marley and Me: I bawled like a baby at the end. I too had a "worst dog in the world" who ended up leaving a huge hole with his passing.

The first like 10 minutes of the movie Up. Being half of an infertile couple myself, I could see myself in Mr. Frederickson's role some day.

Another Futurama moment that does me in (though it's not sad like the one with the dog) is the surprise ending of Lethal Inspection from season 6.


Also for movies, I'm another one who's a sucker for Superman saving Lois in the first '79 movie.

Also when the school bus went on the ice in The Sweet Hereafter.

I find that father/son scenes are the most powerful for me.

My favorite. Being a father myself this gets me everytime. "No parent should ever have to bury their child"


Gabriel's death in The Patriot (That movie alone has many memorable moments for me). Gibson's sell job here is amazing. (scene starts at 2:20 of vid)


The ending to The Dark Knight. The words, the music, such a perfect blend! Goosebumps!!! lol

Also,

The end of Schindler's List when Schindler is is asking himself how many more he could have saved with his ring.

Multiple scenes in Saving Private Ryan. The one with the Medic dying (Giovani Ribisi) tore me up, then Hanks started to lose it.

Honorable mention:

The first time I saw Iron Giant, the end when he says "Su-per-man" choked me up.

The end of Shawshank Redemption left a lump in my throat because I didn't want to say goodbye to those characters. Beautiful ending though.

Someone earlier mentioned the scene in The Return of The King when Sam picks up Frodo.

"I may not be able to carry the ring, but I can carry YOU!"

Waterworks in the theater when that happened. Another moment that got me from LOTR was the end of The Fellowship of the Ring, when Frodo takes off in the canoe, and Sam wades in after him even though he can't swim and keeps coming to the point of near drowning when Frodo finally reaches down and pulls him into the boat.

Greatest bromance of all time!

Also, I always get choked up at the end of the animated How The Grinch Stole Christmas when the whos in Whoville join hands and sing even though they've been robbed blind.

And that Futurama scene with Fry's dog!!! That was the last episode of Futurama I ever watched. I was traumatized. There was something so tragic about Fry letting his dog go because he probably lived a long happy life after he disappeared, then they flashback to the dog desperately trying to save Fry and then sitting outside the pizza place every day... I can't even continue. I'm gonna start crying at work. Dang it, Matt Groening. I CAN'T UNSEE THAT!!!

Needless to say, that affected me.

"THe Incredibles" Pixar moment (that moment in any Pixar film that sums up the character and the story in one short line or scene), where Mr. Incredible tells his wife to stay behind and then as she argues, says he isn't strong enough. She keeps pushing him, thinking its a macho thing, and then he blurts out, "I can't lose you again!!!! I'm not...strong enough." That was a powerful moment in one of the best super-hero movies ever made.

I ball a bit everytime I watch the episode of E.R. when Mark Green goes to Hawaii and on his death bed finally resolves the conflict between him and his daughter and she puts head phones on him and he dies while listening to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". I love E.R. and miss it dearly.

Scooby-Doo: Mask of the Blue Falcon: Scooby discards his Dynomutt costume in an alley. (It's reminiscent of a certain scene in one of the Spider-Man movies.)
