Grayskull Robot in MOTUC discussion thread

With the anticipated release of Gy-Gor, never before seen vintage prototype character which seemingly no one knew about until about six months ago, I got thinking about a pre-Filmation figure central to Castle Grayskull that was never made:

the Castle Grayskull robot/armor.



For years before Mattel released the Sorceress figure, I had regretted that this robot character could not move and protect the throne of Castle Grayskull. He just had to stand there like a useless statue and watch as Skeletor took the throne and the Evil minions took over my Castle Grayskull.

Now I reckon if we're getting a Gy-Gor no one's ever heard of, surely we deserve a Grayskull robot/armor figure.

Always loved the blaster attached to his left wrist. Looks like this figure could use Trap Jaw's legs, may need unique arms and helmet and a new armor built like Optikk's to cover the standard torso.

Maybe someone could help me out a bit to distinguish whether it is a robot or suit of armor? If it's a suit of armor, how cool would it be to remove the helmet and put a removable He-Man or Man-At-Arms or some other head in there?

It's a cool idea actually, but I don't see MAttel spendng too much new tooling budget for a sub exclusive.

If they were to do it with tons of reuse here's what they could use: (if maximum reuse was mandatory)

-Trap Jaw's lower legs and feet
-King Hssss's upper legs (Formerly He-Man's but Hssss's are better Thanks SDCC reveal for the update*)
-He-Ro Loincloth
-Trap Jaw's hands
-Trap Jaw's arms with new armor piece glued to the shoulder
-Hordak flat Abs
-Standard Torso
-New Armor and Helmet
-Accessory the Console to which the armor/robot is attached.

*= and Staff of Ka for the idea of updating the upper legs!

I'd definitely like to see this get made one way or another. A cool obscure figure!

I'd definitely be up for that figure; it looks like a lot of tooling would be needed, but, as DO4M points out, some existing parts could easily be worked into the design. And the Horsemen have shown how ingeniously they can incorporate existing parts into the figures without making it obvious. Give him a sculpted control panel and enough do-dads to go with him, and you might get a beast/large or two-pack sized figure out of him.

As I've stated before, off the wall things like this and Gygor help keep the line fresh and unpredictable, something it needs to thrive and grow.

I have been waiting for Optikk to come out so I can finally make this character. I have had a name and bio ready for him for about 9 months. I will definitely post a pic of him along with his bio when I complete him next month.

It always struck me as a "power/space" suit being charged. (With either someone inside it or not, like IronMan...)

I'd love it! I have always loved those cardboard inserts and the stickers as well! (That octopi-like arm reaching out of the grating? ) Rather than a figure though, I'd like it as a SUIT! Make it out of cloth/pliant latex with plastic bits attached!

I'd make that as a figure with an exposed neck peg so you could just swap heads and you'll have any figure wearing the space suit/armor. Really cool idea for an incentive, bonus figure or even a Castle Grayskull weapons pak.

I always thought of it as a robot and I've heard the name "Defendor" bandied about as an unofficial name. He's made a few of my figure want lists.

A head swappable space suit though is a neat idea and I kinda like the idea that Queen Marlena's old space suit is stored away in Castle Greyskull as it's advanced alien technology. Maybe Man-At-Arms cribbed some stuff from it when building Roboto.

If we ever get a MOTUC Castle Grayskull, I would love to have "Defendor" as a pack in exclusive. Who doesn't love figures that come with a vehicle or playset? They should also make that blue dude flying the Wind Raider in the vintage BC vs Panthor poster. Poe Ghostal referenced it also in one of his columns.

I would be thrilled to buttons if we ever got this thing/guy/gal/whathaveyou! I love so many of the ideas mentioned here, too, from it being Marlena's spacesuit (which I've often pondered as well, though its placement in the castle sems odd) to the notion of having an empty neck peg inside the helmet for other figures to "wear it." I also like the idea of this thing simply being a robot programmed to defend the castle.

In any event, I hope we see it before all is said and done! Characters like this are truly making the line!!!
