    Iron Man 2 Official Discussion

so i've seen a few trailers on this film and already i'm not liking it much..

aren't trailers suppose to be good and make the movie interesting? then again, there's trailers in general where they look great, but the movie just sucks.

in this case, the trailers look overly. uh, watch this film i'm better than the first and so overly hyped?! from what i see, its just trying to hard to be good.

maybe i'm wrong, maybe i'm right.. maybe people will keep watching it no matter what because its IRON MAN.

look at transformers 2, that sucked and made 4 billion dollars

I saw combat drones in the trailer. I love robots, and I love powered armor. The first movie rocked, so at least I'm under the impression that they'll do equal to the last. If nothing else, I'll probably have a good time.

In short: Lookin' forward to it!

I love the first one, and believe I will at least like the sequel. Hopefully it will be a good popcorn flick at least.

I'm quite looking forward to Iron Man 2. I've tried to stay away from watching all the trailers etc... as i really want to watch the film "uninterrupted" so to speak. I guess the only way i'll know if the film is hype or not is when it comes out and i go see it. But from the little i've seen, i like it so far.

i like what i've seen, with superhero movies the second usu has the potential to be better as you don't have to spend time developing the heroes orign, he's established and you can have more fun with him. But with sequels there's always the fear that they'll give too much flash and not enough substance (for me I call it Secret of the Ooze syndrome) they get much more money to play around with and they spend it at the expense of storytelling.

I'm looking forward to it, though not on the same level as something like The Dark Knight or anything. The early reviews are not promising, though. I'll still go see it because I like to draw my own conclusions, rather than get my opinions from someone else, but it's a bit worrying when all of the (admittedly, few at this point) reviews agree that it's not good. The first movie was surprisingly enjoyable, so it'd be a shame for them to blow it now.

Remember that interview a friend was conducting with Don Cheadle I mentioned a while back? I wanted anyone who had any questions too pass them along.

I finally saw it and it was about what I expected. It was OK(I'd probably recommend it) but not nearly as good as the first movie.

    * Scarlett Johansson, besides being less attractive imo than Gwyneth Paltrow, simply can't act. Her stunt double did a good job in this movie but considering this film was full of big personalities like Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., Sam Rockwell, and even Gary Shandling, she came off as bland as wood. I really wish the original casting for Black Widow, Emily Blunt, was used. Hell, they could have even used a real Russian actress who's used to action movies like Olga Kurylenko(Hitman, Max Payne, Quantum Of Solace).

    * Mickey Rourke, while not having many scenes to begin with, just didn't do it for me. He didn't have the onscreen presence Jeff Bridges had in the first movie and he was also so grimy looking, I felt he would have been better off playing D-Man/Demolition Man. I also didn't understand why they merged Crimson Dynamo with Whiplash for the movie. I figured it was because they didn't want to use another villain in a metal suit again, but he still got into one for the final battle. Iron Man doesn't have enough decent villains that they can waste 2 for just one character.

    * Don Cheadle is a great actor but besides not looking the part of Rhodey(he's too short & nerdy looking), he didn't have the charisma of Terrence Howard nor that actor's chemistry with Downey. In fact, Cheadle came off like he was either acting in a different movie or didn't want to be there in the first place.

    * While I wish we weren't given any reminders of the, imho, crappy Ultimate Universe, Samuel L. Jackson really perked me up when I started getting a little restless while watching the movie. While he's more Richard Roundtree than the original Nick Fury's John Wayne, he definitely is more similar to the 616 Fury than the Ultimate one.

    * Sam Rockwell & Gary Shandling(who I originally felt was out of place in this movie based on the trailers) were great. They were funny as well as the type of guys you loved to hate.

    * I really loved that the always dependable Jon Favreau gave himself some more lines than he had in the original movie. He's great as Happy Hogan.

    * Downey & Paltrow worked well together again. While their snappy repartee teetered on sounding like bitter divorcees at times, their natural chemistry won out in the end.

All in all a good movie, but it just makes me wish producers worked harder on casting the right actor for the role instead of basing their decisions solely on an actor's looks(the guy playing Thor, Johansson), their name(Don Cheadle), or their current industry buzz(Rourke).

I saw it again last night! Still awesome!
Not to sound like a creepy cheerleader for Uki, but it's nice to know there is at least one person on this forum who is extremely positive & friendly all the time. I just saw it today and enjoyed it a lot. It felt gloomier than the first movie though. So much of the fun of his becoming Iron Man was (understandably) absent, and I hope they figure out a way to approximate that when they make a third one. Fury turned up at just the right time to liven things up, and then Stark found a purpose again and the gloom finally ended. Might have been nicer if the "you complete me" line had not been cut though.

The cast was good, I thought everyone worked pretty well anyway, even Johanssen. I missed Jeff Bridges as Stain, but Sam Rockwell was fun (and was anyone else expecting him to sound like Gary Oldman's Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg when he started selling his weapons to Rhodes?). Rourke was playing Darth Maul as far as I was concerned, he was all look and little substance. If you stop and think about it, he had a legitimate axe to grind since the Starks ruined his father just for wanting to be rich like them. Somehow, that got lost and he just became a 2D supervillain, which was a shame, but all a movie like this really needed.

I liked Don Cheadle as Rhodes, but with all the plots going on, it would have been better to have kept continuity with the casting. I also miss looking forward to a companion movie this summer as I had with the last one--but it was neat to see the Incredible Hulk media coverage at the end, as well as Cap's shield and Mjolnir.

I have a feeling that the Avengers movie is going to be plagued by a lot of complaints about too little screen time for certain characters--particularly Stark. He's already just a consultant for the Avengers? How much you want a bet he won't show up until after the half way point in the Avengers movie, and will have a role just slightly bigger than Fury has in Ironman 2?

Can't wait for Captain America and Thor next summer. And I do wish X-Men were in this particular connected franchise because now there's no excuse not to use Sentinels.

Possibly. Favreau had said he hadn't read the Avengers script yet - and that was after Iron Man 2 was opening. So I don't think it was a direct set-up. I think they did that just to leave it open for the Avengers movie to take place after Thor in the time line (which comes after IM2) and not have Iron Man already be a member. That way he can join at the start of the movie.

It's looking like the time line of Marvel Studios Movies is something like this:

Captain America (well, the bits in the past)
    Iron Man 1
    Iron Man 2
    Incredible Hulk
    Thor
Captain America (bits in the "present", but that's a total guess)
    Avengers

Finally saw it. Not as good as the first, but still great fun, and very little "grim'n'gritty" that Hollywood seems so obcessed with lately. That's a fad I'd love to see die out.

Iron Man 2 is a masterpiece

1- Best character development - Tony deals with his troubled past/present time and cope with his father's figure in a poetic and effective way.
2- Brilliant dialogues and action/drama/humour timing.
3- Downey Jr. on fire again!
4- Best CGI in a Iron Man "solo" movie so far.
5- Most beautiful aerial fight ever commited on celluloid.
6- Ultra-cool fights. The Formula 1 fight is impressive (even in terms of direction).
    7- Flawless direction.
8- Biggest superhero movie with Superman '78, The Dark Knight, The Avengers and Iron Man 1.
    9- Interesting villains.
10- Overall fascinating and unpredictable movie.

Whoa.....Sorry, but I really disagree with you. I think Iron-man 2 is a jumbled mess. It’s too busy setting up the Avengers that it forgets to be its own film. It’s definitely the weakest out of all the Marvel Universe films thus far.

I enjoy it more than the first Iron Man, although I don't think it is a better movie. I think what Krueger mentions as faults, valid as it may be, is one of the reasons I enjoy it more, because I see these films as one single big story and the little bits that connects them make me happy. Iron Man II is great as an episode but not that balanced as a stand alone film. That aside, I loved War Machine and Mickey Rourke's character... although his last fight was rather short. The briefcase suit was awesome, a great nod to the comics. I love this film.

I thought the first Iron Man was better, along with 10-12 other superhero movies.

I like Don Cheadle, but I don't like he was thrown in as a replacement actor for the same character.
If Jack Bauer was on Lost, everything would have been solved in 24 hours!

If Jack Bauer was on Heroes, he wouldn't need to save the cheerleader to save the world.
