"Battles across Eternia" minicomic by Danbrenus

And finally, as promised, the beginnig of my new vintage Alcala-style minicomic.
As all of you surely know, there's no prince Adam here, no Orko nor Cringer or the royal court, this is the first He-man, the barbarian warrior in a wasted savage planet, as conceived originaly before the DC and Filmation turn over.

As in the previous minicomic I did, I'd like to point some things here and there in this continuity never fully developed originally, I'll talk about it as long as it comes.
First of all, MAA is no inventor here, nor Tee-la is his foster daughter, he's a master of weapons intended as a warrior skilled in the use of many weapons and of the same age of He-man, and she is the heir of a long line of warrior champions, from which she gains her "berzerkin'fury", plus she, not the Sorceress, is chosen by the spirit of castle Grayskull as the keeper of the castle.

Oh, no it's just a new pre-Filmation tale, as far as I'm the only artist giving mini-Eternia some new story I must do whatever I can, right?

Awesome art man. I would love to see your take on 200x marzo..

One little crit though. It might be an idea to let a native speaker edit your texts. There are quite some grammar errors.

Don't I know? Be patient with me, I do the best I can and after all, it's historically correct like this, the one who traslated in italian the original 4 minicomics back then, made a great amouts of grammar error...just kidding.

Absolutely love it. An artist personal style and imagination stand out so much better in a medium like this.

You could do a thousand drawings like these and I'd never get tired of them.

Y'know, the more I think about it, the more I embrace the idea of the Alcala version of He-Man would make for a better movie setting then the one done in the 80's post Filmation one that took place more on earth anyway so there was no development. Only gripe about Alcala MOTU is since every story involves Skele trying to take over Greyskull, all we EVER see is the Castle and the surrounding area around it. This idea probably belongs on another forum section but I just wondered if you Dan, or others think that'll work to, since that's what seems to be happening with the new amalgamated bios for the MOTUC figures.

Well, for a world so little developed, this Eternia has a lot of good locations, in this minicomic I'll show Skeletor's volcanic lair, MAA mountain outpost, Stratos high peak, the vine jungle, the green valley of He-man's home and, of course the surrounding of Castle Grayskull. I missed the outpost of Zodac, the sea of monsters of Mer-man and the desert plane where He-man is ambushed by Beast-man and Mer-man.
I'm sure 100% that this version is the best for movie adaption, and not just because is my favourite, and I'm not a fan of the new bios at all.

Here MAA and Tee-la are ambushed by Mer-man and his abyss warriors. Mer-man is the oceanic warlord, that implies he has some people to lead to war, so I give him this generic sea-dwelling troop.

I just sketch roughly what I have in mind on the sheet, I define it the best I can, then I go with the ink. If the result is fine I do a copy on heavy sheet and color it with water colors. Ta-daa! Done!

(I personally would have made all the warriors of the abyss look the same. The one in front, being hit by MAA, draws too much attention to himself because he has a different head).

Yeah, I'm really more used to the Flimation mythos, it's odd for me that He-Man has his own native land and people and isn't a Prince of the uniting Kingdom. But at least the Vine Jungle is around, and Stratos' people having more of a flying monkey quality is quite interesting. But is Teela a split clone of the Sorceress

That never played well for me honestly.

Mer-Man having his own fish people henchmen made more sense to see why Skeletor would have him around since in the Filmation and MYP cannon he was pretty useless most of the time.

Abolutely NO Tee-la as a clone! She has a well declared heritage from a long line of warrior ancestors!
I never really liked the second wave of minicomics...

This is my version of Mer-man, the "Disney-duck" face is, my opinion, why he never fully made it as a frightening creatures from the depth! I simply made him looks more like the original figure, that was way more frightening, while keeping the feeling of his earlier appearence.
In this panel I wish to give him the "Starscream's endeavior" he was meant to have in the beginning, before other bad guys such as Hordak and King Hiss were introduced.
The idea of the abyss warriors breathing air only by Skeletor's spell explains why Mer-man isn't a evil warlord on his own but keep dwells around Skeletor.

This is one of my favourite panel! Here Zodac appears exactily own I wish him to be! And Stratos shins as well if you ask me.

Really great artwork, danbrenus...

But I have to say I am a bit disappointed about the dialogues when it comes to correct English. Maybe you should think a bit longer about the right form of the verb (present tense, past tense etc.). This is meant to be constructive criticism, dan...

If you want you could send me your text passages for the respective comic pages via private message (on he-man.org of course) so I could review the text and be of assistance when it comes to grammar etc.

However, I am no native speaker myself...but I used to work for the German Embassy a short while ago so my English skills should be sufficient for the task in question.
