TBH, I was never going to care who they got to play April or, eventually, Casey. To me, I’m just interested in the Turtles and Splinter. The Hollywood Reporter, when breaking this story, said that the Turtles (and presumably Splinter) will be motion-capture. That alone makes me very excited. I’m a big fan of the technology. I’ve no doubts that the Turtles will look better than they’ve ever looked before in a live-action setting. Plus, it’s got Krang in it. To me, that’s worth the price of a ticket alone.

First, bay is involved. Next, the "turtles" are really aliens from outer space so they really aren't teenage, mutant, ninjas, or turtles. After that, the news that Megan Fox will be playing April really has no effect on me. I already knew I'd hate this movie.

April O'Neil isn't her real name it's her stage name which she choose because of her stated love of TMNT growing up. Apparently she also is a big Doctor Who fan. I found this out on another geeky site, and after I did a search for April O'neil in google which her blog which is nfsw work is one of the top results (being google not surprising) and I was like what's this all about here.

I try not to judge a movie before it comes out, but there are danger signs that you can't help but react to. I knew nothing good could be coming with Batflop and Ripoff, er, Batman and Robin, when Schmacher was asked about the death of Bruce's parents and his reply was, "Oh he got over that in the last one." Yeah, the main motivation for the very existence of the main character is no longer a part of the story; that told me a lot right there. I had reservations about the first FF movie when I heard about it being a comedy, but then the director came forward, tamped that down, and said that the film was about a disfunctional family more than a super-team, which told me he at least got the basic concept of the property (and, yes, I liked FF, though I thought Doom could have been handled a bot better).


And that's where my concerns come from, I get worried when a director doesn't seem to get the basics of the concept. THere was a time when the producers of Batman were looking to do the new Superman movie, and wnated his powers to be mainly from technology and didn't want him to fly (basically they wanted to make Batman again with a big "S" on his chest). Thankfully, that went nowhere. Now, I'll say I liked the first two Transformers, though I could have done with a little less Shia and more of the main characters. But hearing about the Turtles being aliens of some kind has nothing to do with the basic premise of the property, and when you move away from the basics of a popular license, you usually get a flop. When you stick to the basic premise and just tweak it for a borader audience, you get things like the Marvel movies or Hellboy.

I'm reserving judgement, but the warning signs are starting to flash...

They kicked Jessica Nigri out of PAX last year for her because her Juliet Starling cosplay was deemed inappropriate. It was one of her more accurate cosplays she does tend to sexify her costumes, but from best I know she is just a cosplayer.

Cosplayers also have a problem with them because it detracts from the hard work they have done. Often the ones who do this thing, are putting together cheaply and fastly done costumes or premade costumes. Also cosplayers, have worked hard to get recognition in the geek world, often being geeks who use it as a form of expression, they have had to battle stereotypes of them being just hot girls trying to get guys attention. some of the cosplayers do have tease sites or similar, but they tend to keep those two separate (aside from using cosplay in some of their photoshoots).

It's a similar problem people have with 'booth babes' They are often paid by a company to dress in skimpy outfits for a fairly decent some of money to just stand there and look pretty. People complain they know nothing of the product they are advertising, and they amount they are paid for not doing anything causes ticket prices and other things to go up, I believe the math says they make something like ~14 bucks an hour.

Also cons often have limited tickets, and the big ones typically sell out during the pre order phase. So people who don't go are upset about porn stars who dress up and walk around and are trying to promote their porn career passively or outright.

Most cosplayers believe you should make more recognizable portions of the costume yourself, limiting your purchases (footwear, maybe hand held accessories, no sense making your own white t-shirt when hanes does it cheaper).

You have an interest in something going on there. I will be attending my first con this year. Obviously one of my interests is He-man and MOTU, but unlike some on this site I haven't watched an episode of filmation in nearly a decade and before that when I was young. But some on the site here have seemingly had daily viewings of several episodes to the point they almost have the entire series memorized. On top my He-man interest, I have interest in comics in general, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, Video games, Star Wars and various other things. I would be like a buffet style geek, who doesn't have the extremely detailed knowledge of those Klingon warriors who have learned the language and their costumes are accurate to TOS or NG. While some of those types might scoff at me for not having such intimate knowledge most will see me for what I am, a general geek with no specialty.

So yours and my case most people aren't going aren't going to be upset, because we are going for the con and it's events etc.

I heard something like 100 badges were bought up by the porn industry last year for SDCC. Which got some upset since it's becoming harder and harder to get into the convention, especially with retailers buying normal (vip) badges to buy stuff up early to resell at the con itself and other people taking away from people who are going there to enjoy the con itself. Also 100 badges of the what 100k isn't a big number really. Also some see the act as somewhat predatory from the industry in question.

My personal feelings on it. I think it's stupid, and it is annoying some people may not have gotten to go because someone who went isn't there for the 'intended' purpose but that's about it. I am not all up in arms about it or anything. I would love to go to SDCC some year but currently it's going to be hard to specifically plan to go since the tickets sell out in moments. And even then you might as well get a vip badge to get some of the better exclusive items, and those badges aren't exactly the cheap.

I was just answering the basic question. I would rather admire someone for a well made costume that is for the most part accurate over someone who bought a pair of red undies and blue altertop with a superman logo on and trying to pass themselves off as 'Superwoman.'

I get it, but I don't know for me it's not that big a deal, i guess it's a purists vision vs mine. i don't understand the purist mindset. well i do but i can't relate. I don't think ANY attention is good but I do believe in expansion and bringing more awareness. a lot can go wrong but a lot can go right. My friend still feels cons should be way more comic focused but that's such a minor part of the brand now. a comic isn't JUST acomic anymore, it's a franchise.

After all, The Turtles themselves are the stars of this project, and A big name actress would just get in the way. Judith Hoag, and Paige Turco weren't big name actress when they were in the original movies. Though, Sarah Michelle Geller, did voice April in the 2007 CGI film, so that's the exception. I'll admit, Even though Anna Kendrick was A 'Twilight' girl, she's be a far better choice for April than Fox.

So, as you can see, all household names. Seriously, though, I think it makes sense that they would get unknowns. They will be covered up with digital "makeup" via motion-capture, so I suppose its cheaper getting unknowns because the mo-cap technology is expensive enough. Funny, though, if you look these guys up on Google images they all kind of "look" like their characters. Especially the guy who is playing Donatello. So the casting was obviously quite precise.

Will Arnett has also been cast in an "unspecified" role. My guess? He's playing Colonel Schrader. They still haven't announced who is playing Splinter and Casey. Filming is actually underway in New York right now. I must admit, even with the all negative buzz, I am a little excited.

Agreed, the Nick toon diverges a bit but it's got the right elements. Remember people were SO VEXED about april being a teenager. (not nearly the same strecth but they were MAAAAAD!!!)

Probably the only 'name' to voice any of The Turtles would be Corey Feldman, who voiced Donatello in the first, and third movie. (HELP, I'M A TURTLE, AND I CAN'T GET UP!) Also, Robbie Rist voiced Michaelangelo in the old movies, but he's best known as 'Cousin Oliver', so that kinda brings him down A bit. It's no surprise that Bay would want 'names' for this movie rather than unknowns, or at least people who've already voiced some turtles like say Rob Paulsen.

Dear Viacom...Why are you so hell bent on letting this movie get such negative press? It's a BIG franchise... You just spent ALOT of money on it. Almost all the news that has come out so far, based on the track record involved, has gotten NEGATIVE reviews and intentions.

Meanwhile, your IDW comic and Cartoon are right on track and are EXCELLENT peices of work. WHY do you care so little about the movie? I don't care if the release date gets delayed another year. SCRAP this movie NOW. Get known people with real talent involved that respect the source material! Michael Bay shouldn't be involved in pushing a grocery cart across a busy city street, let alone directing a multi million dollar movie from a franchise that millions of people love as a guilty pleasure escape vehicle.

I wonder if a Kick Starter project would work here. Say, a Goal of a Million Dollars in two months. People who WOULDN'T pay to see this movie released as it stands now with all the information on it available. Would that be enough to get Viacom's attention and their strange willingness to ignore what is going to be a train wreck of a movie?

They just cast a little person as splinter. I have nothing against the guy...i havn't seen any of his work. but if these guys are going to do mo cap AND the voice....Well, most little people have a distinctive higher pitched voice that wouldn't really fit the personality of a wise old japanese rat. poor guy is going to be a laughing stock of fandom if he can't pull it off...
