Nope no word yet on either front, from what I hear the ratings for the cartoon have been outstanding since its return though.

But Bandai has said nothing either way and neither has the Thundercats Crew Blog or the Art Director who confirmed they has gotten a 52 episode order.

I do have to say I loved this past weekends episode, I like when they work as a team and this was the first episode in a while that "felt" like an 80's Thundercat episode

I enjoyed the episode. I did sor tof chuckle at the end when Jaga basically said "You won the trials!" But only becuase anyone could see the "hidden test" idea coming a mile away. I don't fault them for that, I could just tell right away exactly how it was going to go. He is the lead character, after all.

But still, fun episode. About time we get to see the team actually fighting Mumm-Ra and his crew like that. We need more of that in this show.

So I ended up watching the Trials episodes this past weekend as my friends wanted to watch them. I have mixed feelings about them. They were good, but they felt rushed. This should have been at least a 3 parter, maybe even a 4 or 5 parter. The trials felt way too quick, the movement of events went too fast, and there seemed to be no real sense of danger with the characters. No one really acted the way they would have when they thought Lion-O died. Lion-O's death felt cheap without any actual consequences, The battle with Mumm-Ra was over way too quickly, which is the one thing this series has disappointed me on, the underuse of Mumm-Ra. There have been episodes without him even making an appearance. I don't expect him to fight all of the time, I rather like how they are doing it, but he feels more like an anime villian that just sits there in the shadows instead of doing anything himself. It wasn't bad, but it seems like these days 5 part story arcs are a rarity as if they think the audience is going to have ADD and not watch the rest of the arc. They need to realize that their audience watches/watched DBZ, and if you can watch that show religiously, you can handle a simple 5 part story.
Can someone PM me the US number for Matty? I want to talk to someone who might has a clue of what is going on.

I noticed Will Friedle was the writer of at least the second episode. I am glad they didn't make it just a list of physical challenges. I do find the characterization of some of the characters to be fairly different from episode to episode especially since the the return.

I agree. It reminds me of Smallville. In one episode a character is trying to kill someone while the next episode they are friends without any mention of the prior event. I like this show overall, but I feel its inconsistencies & a lack of well defined or fleshed out villains hurts it.

I think this past episode is the turning point for the Cats. I think Lion-O's sacrifice and Tygra's reality check is going to make the group more of a team moving on. At least, I hope so.

Yeah I hope they don't back to the triangle or the drama of Cheetara/Tygra since that should have resolved itself now

I really hope they use this as a jumping point to have more team episodes, that is where the real spirit of the show I think comes in

A story arc should not be accounted for the number of episodes in a season. A story arc should be given however long it needs to progress and tell its tale without being rushed. If it takes 7 episodes to tell it, then it takes 7 episodes to tell it and you have yourselves only 6 episodes more to complete.

I also noticed in this episode that everyone was calling Panthro "General". Was that the case in the previous episodes & I just didn't notice it, or is it something new? It reminds me of Rattlor being given that name when Mattel couldn't call the toy that.

I didn't really care for the trial episodes. There really was hardly anything to the trials themselves. I could do without Lion-O losing to Tygra yet again and the ending was predictable. They should have expanded or kept it to one episode. I noticed Will Friedle wrote it.

I think it was mainly a Tygra thing, since he became lord of the Thundercats. Tygra seems to have more of a military mindset then Lion-o so as lord he referred to Panthro as general.

I could be wrong, but I thought Lion-O was calling him that as well(at least durng the trial).

Panthro and Grune fought together and were promoted to Claudus' generals. It's been there since the first 5 or 6 episodes.

I do also, it could have been a writing issue. He is a general, he just hasn't really been referred to by as that. Of course as I recall when Lion-o referred to him as general was when he began to order him.

We are talking about the guy from 'Boy Meets World' here, so you can't expect much. The same with his voice acting. I like Batman Beyond and the new Thundercats just fine, but Fridle's voice range is nonexistent.

But, as for the episodes, I thought they were fine, harkened a bit back to the classic 'anointment trial' episodes of the original series. Lion-O DOES need to be able to overcome Tygra eventually! Look at how he made Mumm-Ra run for his money after a short confrontation. He is the Lord of the Thundercats, for god's sakes so he should have NO equals!

exactly. Because he can't alter his voice any, but act just fine...I STILL picture Terry Mcguiness when I hear Lion-O

I was a little disappointed with the trials of Lion-O. I was expecting more, like when he was done there would be a difference like he had become a man or something like that. I don't know but I was expecting him to become some great warrior after the trials. We'll see what happens in the upcoming weeks.

At church the teens I work with call me by my first name. When I substitute their classes they call me Mr. and my last name. I am the same person, they are the same person and while for the most part our relationship is the same it's a different aspect of our relationship.

Similar situation two summers ago when our pastor went on a trip with us, his daughter went also. He went as a sponsor, and at one point says something to her then says I tell you this not as your father but as a sponsor on this trip.

With Lion-o it showed, hopefully growth there is difference in his relationship with Panthro as his former mentor and traveling companion and Panthro and him being the Lord of the Thundercats. I am sure Panthro got called both in different situations by Claudus, and chances which he used was based on the aspect of the relationship he was focused on.

Tygra most likely started doing this outright because he has been shown in some regards to be a bit more mature then Lion-o and at the time he wasn't talking to Panthro, he was talking to a general.

I strongly disagree with you guys on this one. Friedle is one of the more effective voices in the show. He's not a Tress Mac Neille who can do tons of different voices or a vocal chameleon like Jeff Bennet or Corey Burton, but that doesn't make him a bad voice actor at all. I recognize him like I recognize Keith David and Kevin Conroy, who are definitely not bad voice actors. And even though he's played many similar characters with an earnest delivery, he's always been well suited to his part be it McGinnis, Blue Beetle, Ron Stoppable, or that bad guy from Green Lantern the other week. You don't have to be Mel Blanc to be a "good" voice actor, you have to be Mel to be a "great" voice actor and there's plenty of decent talent between the two. I can't say the voices for the TC villains are matching their designs or characters nearly as well.

Also leave Boy Meets World the heck alone!

I agree, it's just like the problem with live acting. Big name actors are hard to watch and not think at some point that's so and so, even when they are a great actor. Just because you recognize them doesn't mean they are bad, there is a certain point when it's just something there.

This is why a lot of pretty good actors ended up getting type cast to early and couldn't break away or it took them a lot of work to get away. I look at Jim Carrey, and even Will Farrel for that. When they tried to something different people got all over them even those were some of their best movies. Stranger then Fiction is still the only movie of Will Farrel's I actually liked.
