I was wondering if this is a licensing headache!

Clawdeen is coming. They can use this trademark in anyway they like. Plus, Clawdeen is a Battle Cat re-use. It costs them very little to produce Clawdeen.

Notice I use no pronouns like "him" or "her" or "he" or "she" because Clawdeen is of undetermined gender LOL (a girl in the box-art bio, a boy in the mini-comics and toon).

Those dolls are really cool though - the fish lady is awesome.

Actually, I'm sure I will buy it, however that issue gets approached. in fact, Mattel need only sculpt one mane for both Clawdeen and Battle Lion and attach it to the Battle Cat/Panthor sculpt!

I LOVE these! Apparently Toys r Us.com sold some before they were supposed to and someone bought them all. I am anxiously awaiting their arrivals in stores!

It seems like Mattel is going all out, there is a live action Movie in the works, a 22-minute episode for TV, a clothing line a Justice stores, costumes at Party City, a book (by Clique author Lissi Harrison), plus the dolls, plush, bag, and more!

Awwwh, the androgynous 80's toy paradox... The biggest question mark of any 80's toyline though was/is Strawberry Shortcake where one Plum Puddin' was introduced as a boy, went off to boarding school, and magically came back as a girl.

Has anybody here heard about these? This July Mattel launched an all new doll line called Monster High (think Barbie meets Dr. Frankenstein) along with tons of spin-off merchandise, webisodes, a novel, and a music video.

Huh?!

How the hell does an unknown, untested no-name franchise out of nowhere get a full retail launch, webisodes, a new novel and other merchandise when an established and proven brand like MOTU has to struggle, and can't even get a pathetic little mini-comic printed?

This is from a very popular kid's book series going on. It's a Harry Potter thing sort of I guess you can refer to it as. Basically someone else is doing the correct type of marketing and Mattel is just jumping on their coat tails to sell a line of dolls. Well, of course Mattel didn't come to the company that owns Monster High, it was the other way around, but still the sales are coming off of the other company's promotions and popularity. Nothing really to do with Mattel other than they did actually make a pretty nice looking product. My wife has bought a couple to go with her Barbie collection.


EDIT: Rather than editing what I had typed, I'll just add on. The book isn't actually out yet as I thought it was. It doesn't hit until Sept. 1st. But it still applies what I said about it being a Harry Potter type of thing. I don't understand it and many of you all probably won't either, but there was chatter going on about this for months before the dolls ever were shown at Toy Fair 2010. It's been something apparently that kids have known about and has latched onto. Most of any promotions I've ever seen were in book stores. The dolls just kind of was on the shelf during the current reset they are doing in the toys right now. They didn't sell at first, but they ahve picked up steam int he last week.
