Lady Gaga is a cross between someone I've never heard of and someone I don't care about.
This Monster High? It's just Casper's Scare School a few years down the road.

Currently on a quest to find the legendary and mythical collaborative comic artist
I love that in one post you call yourself a prude and in the next you discuss your early porn habits.
I tell you what. I've seen Madonna in concert twice. On September 7th, I'm going to see Lady Gaga. I'll get back to you then and tell you who I like better.
Now, what were we talking about again?
Oh yes, Snorks. Or something.

My daughter has never found any dolls that interesting... No Barbie, no Bratz... nothing really got her attention with dolls. However, she takes a little after me with some dark interests in "evil" and "wicked" things like horror movies and monsters and ghost stories, and when she saw these at SDCC she was totally hooked!
They actually have jack to do with the popularity of Lady Gaga. They have more to do with the popularity of things like Skelanimals and other slightly more macabre interests for kids (Nightmare Before Christmas making a comeback, Coraline being one of the spookiest things for kids in a while). A line like this catches a lot of the crowd not into Barbie... which for all the "diversity" it offers up is still very antiseptic and "clean" of other influences.
And it's hitting retail, folks!!! Retail always get a bigger push than direct stuff. It's not like this publicity and stuff they are putting out there is taking money away from MOTUC... people shouldn't feel threatened by this new line of dolls.
I swear, some MOTUC fans can be the craziest, most narrow-minded, self-centered people in the world!!! "How come that toy line gets all this cool stuff, but we don't??" Grow up, people!!! We are collecting toys aimed at adults... the market is built in!!! You and I and everyone else on this board is already buying, so they don't need to invest in those "hooks" to get new fans into the line. As long as there are MOTU, POP, MYP-era, and even NA fans out there, the fan base for this line is pre-built.
Things like this thread are the reason my wife walked out at the end of Matty's SDCC panel shaking her head in disbelief, commenting how rabid and nuts the MOTUC fan-base is. We're MOTUC fans, we deserve pretty multi-media presentations and fun Flash games and sparkly videos and comics. They owe us more than the product we buy, because we try to buy every month and we should get more than what we pay for... right??
I am so close to dropping these message boards and filtering all the fan b.s. out of Matty's Facebook page and ignoring Matty's forums because I can't believe how every little thing Mattel does turns into a torch and pitchfork rally from people. And this time it's not even about something with MOTUC other than "they did it for them, why not for us!!! WAAAAAAHHHH!!!!"
Logic has left the building, and I think I'm about to follow it out the door.
Lead singers hot. Songs pretty much 'Monster high' repeated over and over again. I can write songs like that.
He-man he-man he-man he-man he-man he-man he-man he-man he-man
Ive been excited about Monster high ever since I saw the protos last year, I love Universal monsters and its such a cool idea.
My series one arrived last week from BBTS and they are awesome!

I bought all the Monster High dolls! I freakin' love them! They're awesome! While I loved MotU growing up, I only have 4 of the current action figures. MotU has already been reissued once with the (amazing) 200x line. I don't honestly see much of a point in the Classics line, no offense.
The simple and sad answer? We're old.
The fact is, Mattel is making things that will appeal to the current market, IE, 13 year old girls. Last I checked, I was a 30 year old man. And I guess we could all rant and rave that "Kid's today are dumb?! Why wouldn't they want to play with He-Man?" But honestly... in '85, don't you think our parents and grandparents were like "Why do they want to play with these things and NES? I fear for the future... we liked baby dolls, and baseball and toy trains! Kid's today!"
And this is coming from one of the biggest, most jaded, and angry curmudgeons on the org.Guess I've started to get soft.
Besides, I collected these when they were out....
What's the difference, except the new ones are a little toned down. And... uhm... these are actually alot nicer, cooler outfits... OK so they're not at all alike.... KIDS TODAY!!
BTW, when I saw the post title, I was thinking MOTUC vs This...

I absolutely LOVE these dolls! I am totally collecting all of them. I'm not a big Goth person(I always thought the Living dead dolls were lame), but these for some reason really appeal to me, especially the Gorgon kid with his snake mohawk
I can't tell for sure but it look to me like they used or re-worked the Winx Club doll molds
And speaking of relating the line to MOTU, I can't believe no one has mentioned yet their use of the name Clawdeen!

Nightmare before Christmas never really went away, Hot Topic has sold merchandise for it for probably near a decade now. There is/was the recent toy line, but I think that was more someone realizing there already was a market.
As for the rest of your post when I mentioned something about the new Karate Kid movie on vent with some friends awhile back, two responses came out the first was 'not sure why they expect people who grew up with the original because we tend to be super/hyper critical of everything.' And the other was 'it's Jackie Chan, come on Jackie Chan you don't beat up little kids.'
But with that said we were roofing 15 years ago my dad decided to put on one of my cds, after listening to it for a bit he said he wasn't sure he didn't like them and the only thing he didn't really like was rap. The bad in question is Pearl Jam, the reason I mention this is about a year ago I caught him watching them do a performance on one of the satellite concert channels, and it sounded like he liked them.
I have grown to think that Scooby Doo was a show about teens and how adults just don't understand their children's culture. Meddling kids was meant to be you bunch of whipper snappers don't know what a real good time is, it's doing the things I liked when I was kid. Just so happened all those adults really like Halloween and playing tricks.

I like how they all come with a little pet ala Rainbow Brite & Strawberry Shortcake. I don't have any yet and I don't really have the money or the room to get any, but I bet when we get closer to Halloween I'm going to get suckered into getting one. I'm leaning towards Clawdeen The wolf girl.I've always loved The Wolf Man and werewolves.
Catra and Entrapta would so fit into this line.
