    MotUC Shokoti Discussion

I really gotta know: why is everyone so desperate to have her in the collection?

I saw the two-parter( and was actually quite surprised that they even did a two-parter, I'll confess), and thought it was pretty good, but nothing that really blew me out of the water about it.

Why is Shokoti so incredibly popular?

Don't get me wrong, I'll gladly add her to my Classics Collection when Mattel gets the Filmation rights, but I just don't fully understand the full appeal of Shokoti and Lord Masque.

I think it is because she is blue skinned, demonic and really evil.

Nerd boys love ladies with blue skin. They also seem to love the underdog. Goat-Man. Fang Man. Even Count Marzo & Evil Seed weren't much to speak of in their Filmation days.

1 shotters seem to stick around and gain cult followings.

Probably more nostalgic reason but when I saw the ep for the first time as a kid, it really blew me away. Thought the character was truly evil and a major threat.

Awesome appearance, awesome voice, awesome episode.

All Larry DiTillio characters are awesome and I would love any of them in figure form. That guy knew what he was doing with his He-Man episodes.

'House of Shokoti' is a funny thing- Shokoti's name-checked in the first episode and doesn't even appear. It's not only one of the biggest drum-rolls for a character, the tension build-up is done brilliantly and reminiscent of a horror movie, IMO. When she finally appears, I'm never disappointed- she's just as demonic and terrifying as we'd been led to expect. Linda Gary's excellent voice-acting makes Shokoti an even more formidable presence and Larry DiTillio's writing puts her ahead of most other one-shot characters for me.

I can imagine them doing great things with Shokoti. She's a demon from the past and I think she'd make a great addition to the line, perhaps even with some sort of connection with King Hiss- she has an element of 'snake' about her.

I hope they secure the rights so we can add her to our collections!

I agree with Count Marzo and Evil_Horde, it was a combination of greats. She had a memorable and unique design among Filmation guest villains as well. That she was the same blue as Skeletor has only made people more interested in seeing her again as a member of Keldor's race.

It may also be that her two-parter (as well as being the only two-parter in the series of course) was one of the few episodes that were paired on VHS back in the day. This meant we could watch it whenever we wanted, which you know can be pretty often for a kid. It also meant we could still see that episode after the show wasn't on TV anymore.

But all that undermines that she was a very cool and powerful villainess. I can't imagine not recognizing that, but I suppose anything can be overhyped.

Masque was pretty neat too, sort of a newer version of the Masks of Power concept. That he had co-opted Trap Jaw from Skeletor for a time probably impressed me the most. I guess it was just neat that Masque and Shokoti could have carried a series as the villains, which is pretty cool too.

The villains are usually cooler than the heroes and Shokoti and Lord Masque are some of the coolest Filmation villains there are. They are some of the few that are capapble of true competence in that series. That's why I would like to add them to my collection.

I'm not desperate. I didn't even remember who she was until I read this thread.

There is something very ancient and mysterious about her. Granted the episode was wrapped around a boys disobedience and fear but I figured she could be extremely powerful. Written in the mythos now I could imagine her being an very powerful and old ancient deity.

I think it would be great if Shokoti was Keldor's mother. maybe she lured Miro into an affair to gain power! Eternia's age of pornocracy.

I'm sure we're going to see her WHEN mattel gets the filmation right! filmation is a cash cow for mattel!

Well, I guess I'll finally have to look those episodes up. I find it hard to believe that any villain in the filmation series can seem formidable, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

I think it is because there is a part of the fan base that is really, really into female figures and there aren't a lot of female characters besides Marlena and the original 3 toys in the vintage line that are figure worthy from the Filmation show.

Well, I posted in the vintage forum why I wasn't as impressed with Shokoti; feel free to check it out here:

But I understand where you folks are coming from; I read someone on the forum mention they wanted to put her in the MYP show, but her scene and line referencing her were cut or something.

Shakoti would be one of my top Filmation requests, alongside Lord Masque, Lizard Man, Octavia, and Shadow Weaver.
Not to sound like a creepy cheerleader for Uki, but it's nice to know there is at least one person on this forum who is extremely positive & friendly all the time. I don't think I could be that nice even if you paid me. If we ever give out awards for "forum member of the month", Uki gets my vote. -Mr. Shokoti

The one and only reason she's so popular is that Ram Man called her Sha-Boobie.

You don't actually say why you weren't impressed though, just that you thought some size continuity issues with the door were symbolic of your disappointment. Everyone is entitled to their tastes of course.

Never heard of him/her/it, if that makes you feel better. Other than someone's username.
