Yeah its either cop or fireman huh?

I haven't read the comics, but I think I'd be way more excited for Miles Morales for the reboot.

I kind of like the looks of the newest trailer, but the two things that irk me are the same two things I didn't like about the Raimi movies: it looks like Spider-Man does a lot of battle sans mask and Andrew Garfield's voice is about as far from what I imagine Spider-Man's voice to be. Christian Bale gets a lot of flack for his Batman voice, but at least it sounds like a voice criminals would take seriously.

I thought Garfield's delivery of his lines in the car was excellent. Really does give it that trickster quality. We never really saw that in the previous trilogy. Spider-Man was never meant to sound all dark and brooding.

That part suited the character for sure, but I recall McGuire doing a FEW similar things (the elevator in part 2 for example) but the overall tone and mood of the movies weren't as light. What I want is the trash talk and inner monologue. if Kick Ass could do it why not Spidey? The Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon did it perfectly IMO. I hope they match the mood of this movie to that.

I agree that Garfield's delivery was fine, and I think he looks good in the role, I just thought his voice in that scene sounded more like Peter Parker than Spider-Man. Sort of like if He-Man used the Prince Adam voice instead, it wouldn't really sound right. But who knows, I might change my mind once I've seen the finished product.

I could be I'm just too picky - I grew up watching the 60s cartoon and for some reason, that voice will always be the one I most associate with the character.

wow, that's old school...back then, all super heroes had baritone voices...in fact spider-man from the 60's sounds a lot like seth mcfarlane...especially his tom tucker voice (which ironically was not used when spider-man made cameos on family guy) ...so there we go, just get mcfarlane to dub over the dialogue and we've got 60's live action spider-man!

Ok just watched the trailer and I still really really don't like the costume or the look of Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, the Lizard looks really goofy and Dr Connors seems to come across as en evil mad genius (which he never was) and I really don't like that when Spidey is sitting on the floor, his hands tied behind his back...he waits until the guy removes his mask before he shows that he is still perfectly capable of kicking their asses and getting away. Why is it that no hollywood writer or director can understand that one of Spider-Man's main concerns is keeping his identity a total secret, he wouldn't just let people remove his mask. I didn't like the mask removals in Raimi's Spider-Man series and I don't like it in this one either.

As for his fighting style and scenes of him swinging around New York, if it wasn't for the different costume they could have been scenes ripped straight from any of the Raimi movies.

I guess I will probably buy this on DVD when the price has lowered to about Ģ9.99 or less but it is not a movie I have any real desire to see any time soon.

    .
I want to say this exact scene, or something very close to it, happened more than once during the Silver Age...I remember one fight with Dr. Octopus where Peter's mask had been ripped off, and the cops and J.Jonah assumed Peter was 'playing the hero', and I'm pretty sure I recall an incident where Spidey lost his mask and he had to keep moving and keep hiding his face to avoid being ID'd by the cops.

sure I know it has happened a few times in comics but considering the sheer amount of issues it is really to be expected, but does his mask have to come off in EVERY movie?

As long as its a full-face mask, the answer is sadly "yes".

I think the movie, costume, and actor look fine, but I just kinda feel all Spidey'ed out. I think I'll wait 10 or so years before I see it, let the franchise simmer a bit.

The more I look at Andrew in that Spider-Man costume, the more I want to see this movie, however its for superficial reasons. That boy is smoking hot! Sure, Tobey was in great shape in the first Spider-Man movie, and the costume was great, but Andrew's jaw, features and hair looks has nailed the look. For me, it appears as though he was torn from the pages of a Spidey comic.

The images of Lizard so far have been somewhat a disappointment. I would have liked to see a larger, more bestial creature, with perhaps a larger animatronic head. Personally, I feel he lacks a certain inhuman quality that I would have wanted for this particular villain.

Not to open a can of wormy complaints, but I felt the same way about Venom in Spider-Man 3. The guy cast as Sandman was spot on. The choice for Venom was about six inches too short, and 100lbs underweight. Maybe if this 'new' incarnation of Spider-Man in film is a success (though it will most likely be a 1 off like Superman Returns), we may see Venom as he should be.

Speaking of Superman, the images of Henry Cavil are popping up on the Internet, and while he too is a beautiful man who is enjoying success in Hollywood as an action man (and has added some serious muscle for the role), I much preferred the look of Brandon Routh as our new man of steel.

Venom shouldn't have even been in the movie. They should have just let Raimi tell the story he wanted. We would have gotten something much better if they kept the focus on Sandman. Instead, Venom was shoehorned into the movie, which made the movie a big mess.

I liked Eddie Brock being small and skinny like an evil blond Parker, but as Venom he should have been a powerhouse and saved for a fourth movie. People talk about how crammed in he was, but what about the abomination that was the Harry Osbourne arc? Some previously unimportant background character suddenly holds vital information that turns Harry from an antagonist into an ally just when we need him most? Plus I thought he shouldn't have been able to tell that Norman impaled himself with his own glider just by seeing the wounds. Shoot, Venom uses Harry's glider to impale HIM later. Whoops. I agree that Sandman was well cast, but he and Harry should have been the only villains, Marko's family should have featured in the story more, and the experiment that transformed him shouldn't have been as arbitrary as the symbiote just falling out of the sky.

The movie felt phoned in on multiple fronts. Raimi had the sense to remove Dr. Octopus from the first movie to use in the second. He should have done the same with Venom, but that was outside pressure so I guess he needed to use only Venom and not Sandman at all to please the studio.

At least the new movie is using the Lizard and not three or four villains at once. I just wish this was back in Marvel's hands and part of their shared movie universe. I'll keep hoping Fantastic Four goes back to Marvel at least.

    New Trailer

Very surprised no one posted this. It came out last week. There are some truly amazing (pun intended) shots in this trailer that are blatantly there to show off the 3D, which I've heard nothing but good things about. Love the colour pallet they're going for, too. It looks completely different to the Raimi films. Lizard looks good. Also, LAB COAT! I won't say any more:

Nope still looks like crap plus they made Connors seem like a total ass and it seems that Peter's parents (or at least dad) planned for him to become Spider-Man

This movie just keeps on getting even worse the more I learn about it.

agreed with Heidi, Wolfster. this thing has everything going for it in my mind.

tone: they have realized that you can make a movie dark (batman) and still have huge success.
story: alot of people complained that they are going back to origin style story, but this already proves that they are revealing/reinventing alot of parts of the character that have never been discussed on screen.
acting: Conners and Parker are very well casted. The actor that plays conners plays captain hook in a sci fi original movie, and as much as the movie itself was a let down to me, the actor was PERFECT as captain hook. (ps he is also in the movie the replacements!!! as the kicker)
action: man, it looks like tech/video has come SO far from even the first spiderman movie. it looks like the action scenes are going to kick butt.

I think this looks fantastic. I was skeptical of the early images and trailers, but I think everything looks great now. Even the costume that I didn't love looks much better on screen than in photos.

I think this looks like its going to be so much better than the Raimi movies.

Yeah, I've been pretty convinced now after seeing more of this. I think the scene with the guy with the knife really went a long way towards making me buy this new Spider-man. If they can keep him wisecracking that'd be great. The Raimi films were strangely free of that.

The more I see of this movie's promotion, the more keen on it I am. Spidey just seems right to me, more so than Maguire. Certainly, I'll want to see it first, but it's looking like it might be a really good take on Spidey.

And I love the lab-coat Lizard look - glad they worked that in!

    Potential Spoiler question:

We see the shot of the giant antenna crashing off the roof; there's also a shot of what appears to be Gwen at a funeral. While it could certainly be Connors' funeral at the end, I wonder if they're going to kill of Capt. Stacy the same way as in the comics, but with a different villain being responsible.

Just can't get over how different and good this film looks, in terms of the cinematography and design. The colours really bring to mind high end fantasy, which is something I did not expect. I'm seeing a lot of reds, blues, greens and purples. It looks beautiful. A lot of people were expecting them to go for Nolan/Batman realism, but it doesn’t appear they've done that. In fact, it looks as though the exact opposite has been achieved.
